Honestly, the "Clone Wars" would have been a hell of a lot more interesting with the Republic being assaulted by clones and having to scrape together an army of conscripts who actually go through the meatgrinder to become badass. You can still explore what it means to be a clone on the enemy side, which keeps them a hell of a lot more relevant than some dingbat 'bots and their retarded robo-cripple of a general. Overall you'd have a deeper event with more themes to explore.

The use of Jango Fett as the base for the clones was entirely to set up a backstory for Boba Fett.
George Lucas had this retarded idea that he absolutely had to set up everything in the OT as having a cause in the Prequels.
Almost every decision he made with the Prequel Trilogy happened because there was no one to slap his hand and tell him no.
So he had to explain The Clone Wars, and did it in kind of the shittiest way possible even though it led to other great media spin offs. And he had to explain Boba Fett for some reason.
