It turns out they didn't like the original look for Dain so they digitally removed heavy makeup to try to show more of the Actor's facial features.

God, that sheen on everything is so disgusting.

Why the fuck did the Hobbit 'trilogy' suck so fucking bad compared to the original Lord of the Rings films?

Everything about those movies just seemed so wrong and bad.

Look at Jurassic Park transitioning into Jurassic Park 2. Spielburg had no desire or drive to make another one. He did it just for the huge amount of money they gave him. There was no artistic goal. He was just going through the motions.

Get it together, Dain.

I guess that comparison could be made with The Matrix.

But the Hobbit was based off of established material, and Peter Jackson absolutely wanted to keep making Tolkien inspired movies. He totally dropped the ball though with The Hobbit. Just assery all over the place, total ass, nothing but cash grabbing ass. It didn't need to be a trilogy.

Well there's the argument about how much of it was due to the studio stepping in and selling the crap out of it. How much did he have to compromise? Look at the insane amount of branding and merchandise the Matrix had when the sequels were coming out.

Compromise is one thing, but there's just something about the overarching feel of the Hobbit trilogy vs the LoTR. Maybe it was the source material, and the Hobbit being a 'children's' book, but it just felt like such a jarring experience. The tone Jackson established in LoTR was palpable and real. IDK what it was about the Hobbit, but from the get go it just felt like he had limp-wristed the whole thing. Just something about the atmosphere and characters felt totally off and unrealistic.

The Hobbit trilogy was inspired by a children's fantasy book that hardly had any detail.

It was not meant to be a 1:1 recreation of the book. They wanted to explore tolkiens world inspired by his writings and bring more to it.

The problem with it was the lack of preparation and faulty execution.

Was this before the studio told them to handsome them up.
>>
>>62789890
For me, I think it's because of them referencing the older movies way too many times. It took me completely out of it.
>>
>>62789744
Looks like Thorin's got a lot on his mind.

>They wanted to explore tolkiens world inspired by his writings and bring more to it.

No, if that was the case they wouldn't have planned to make one movie to begin with. They split it in half twice because they thought people would buy high-price 3D tickets to all of them.

Nah, I'm just dumb. I thought for sure that was from the Warcraft movie.
>>
I don't know if any of you have seen the extended footage from the third movie but holy shit... I thought the theatrical cut was a joke but they literally take it to god of war levels of crazy.

These movies were just one bad decision after the other with no heart at all.
>>
>>62789890

It felt fake. they had the prequels green screen thing going on, whearas LOTR used real new zealand as much as possible. my favorite parts of the LOTR dvds are the location scouting and set designs.

>>
>>62790064
LOTR had a lot of green screen too, the difference is that they filmed on actual film and not digital and didnt color grade the movie to hell and back. also they didnt just make bad decisions regarding the movie.

When a great movie has some questionable quality effects it doesnt matter too much because you're still into the movie. When a bad movie also looks like ass it makes it stand out that much more because you're pissed at it.

Years spent reading every bit of news and rumor about the movies, following every production set back and the relief when they finally started production only to get this steaming pile of shit. They may not technically be as bad as the Star Wars prequels but I hate them so much more.

I know that feel, I did pretty much the same thing. Pretty fucking disappointing when the production blogs for a film are better than the finished product.

Filming in 3D meant they couldn't use things like forced perspective.

I actually remember being happy that Jackson took over form Del Toro who I wasn't sure about. I would give anything to see his version now. Just the enthusiasm he had for the project was so palpable in his posts on the TORN message boards. Jackson took it on as a favor to the crew so they could keep their jobs and spent all his time fucking about with 3d and hfr, clearly never gave two shits about the book.

Listened to the audiobook

After the first Hobbit came out I didnt even care about the second.
