Panera Strong edition

Well, I've finally created something. It's the best I could do with the idea I was given: Illustrate the Hero's Journey in a video.

As always, post your work, pitch your ideas, and pretend any of us are gonna make it.
>>
I'm meeting a short filmmaker in like a month, how do I pitch him my ideas
>>
i'm not sure if i'm a pleb
i watch a movie and i enjoy it, the next day i realize the movie was shit and i can't enjoy it ever again.

what am i?
>>
Which directors do you think best combine arthouse themes and scope with mainstream sensibilities? I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I want to make something meaningful that can also connect with people who may not be into film as the rest of us. As much as I'd like to make Bergman style films, I don't think the majority would care. So I'm thinking about writing a genre film but one that strives to be more. Anyone know this feel?
>>
>>62781576
Does that happen with all movies?
>>
>>62781615
no.
>>
>>62781609
>arthouse themes and scope with mainstream sensibilities?
I'm gonna get some shit for this, but...Wes Anderson

Although technically he's the other way around.

When a bus driver loses control and drives off of a bridge, he finds that instead of the bus being submerged, it is propelled onto land after falling through a double sided ocean.

What?

Just put the bus into reverse and go back to the bridge

I'd watch.

Sorry, I completely forgot I said "pitch your ideas". I've been inside all day, and I've been on 4chan for way too long.

Took me 3 hours to make a fucking 45 second short.

to be honest I'm just doing this for extra credit

He aint shit senpai. Just pitch. You should have a synopsis.

You give him a synopsis and present it well.

It's been a long day.

Last bump for now.
>>
>>62784694
This is frustratingly paced for a short film. So much of it is credits. So much of it is this eye operation which I don't really want to see anyway. I'm guessing you had a length you needed to hit. It shows.

The short in question.

It's really more of a kids short, but people liked it. Took 9 weeks to animate.

Do you guys see real filmmaking as something that can effectively be done as a hobby or do you feel like it would be something you'd have to take on full time if you ever wanted to really be serious about it?
>>
>>62786504
how did you know he's a poo in loo
>>
>>62788538
I feel like it's something that, to make a quality product, you have to give 100% of your attention while the project is going. Otherwise you sort of slack off.
>>
what's a kind of filmmaking where i don't have to mess with actors and i can do from home? are there any successful people that do this? i need a hobby
>>
>>62788538
With the amount of time and effort it takes to make competent films, you really do need to take it on full time. I mean sure you can have fun with it and not be too serious about it but then what is really the point?
>>
>>62788538
The latter.
>>
>>62788606
Well, all I have is what I did in the OP.

It's possible. I didn't even use a tripod.
>>
>>62788538
Full time. You can be a weekend warrior all you want, but you need to put in a lot of time and make a good chunk of films to get good at it.

BTW grip from a few threads ago. Answering questions on the industry and such if anyone needs em.

Was on Person of Interest today doing set construction. We were going to rig something on a roof for the shooters, but they cancelled it because of the attacks on France (it's a government building). We just hung out and did nothing all day and got paid to do it. Overheard that they cancelled two days of shooting as a result while the writers rewrite to compensate for the change.
>>
>>62788930
Oh shit, welcome back guy
>>
>>62788930
>grip
>set construction

sure buddy
>>
>>62788538
Actual filmmaking when view it as a career prospect is something you need to dedicate yourself to.

Screenwriting and the networking associated with it can be done as a hobby, however. In that case you kind of don't have a choice until you actually make it and are paid to write them
>>
>>62788973
I work in NYC. The grips here don't just do shooting and rigging they also do construction and are responsible for building sets alongside the carpenters. Grips doing construction is just a NY doing. Doesn't happen anywhere else.

Hoo boy.
>>
>>62789277
There is a lot to break down here on why this is a flawed film. The main thing is that its full of inconsistent lighting, bad acting with creepy pedo smiles, and way too long for the story being told.
>>

>>
>>62790085
You mean in terms of sluglines and formatting? Or just vocabulary?

Appears, apparate, manifests, emerges, materializes...
>>
>>62789536
>>62789421
What do you mean?
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YwQk_KdSUM
>>
>>62789847
There's a lot of ways to do this, most of them involve some film equipment. Now I don't know what you want your frame to look like so I'll just focus on the ways you can do it with your limited resources.

The quick and dirty way is to just throw the mattress on the floor and shoot over her. This may compromise your lighting since you may be creating shadows. You can also go handheld.

The other cheap method is to use a ladder and some ratchet straps to secure your camera to it. If you can get a high hat it will make securing it to a ladder so much easier and safer.

Let me know what type of camera is it. If you can show me what tripod you're using it will also help me gauge the safest way to rig it
>>
>>62790113
"Materializes" works. My issue is, yeah, in the vocabulary, I just feel like saying "X warps/teleports into the room" gets really cluttered if the character's doing a lot of that.

thank you
it's a canon 5D, and i really dont know what is the type of the tripod, cause i'm using one from my school, but it look a little like pic related
>>
>>62790386
do you have a highhat?
>>
>>62790476
no, but dont you think i can do your idea without it?
>>
>>62790386
5Ds are light and should be easy to throw on top of a ladder.

That tripod you posted seems to have a removable fluid head mount. Pull it out and place it on top of the ladder running the thread through one of the holes and screwing into it. This should help with securing it. This should allow you to pan and such.

Is there any equipment you can get a hold of besides just a tripod?
>>
>>62790538
That was a different poster, but in my op I did mention how much more easier and safer this would be if you had a high hat
>>
>>62790538
If you get a proper ladder, and then (properly) wedge the tripod over it you could get your shot. But make sure you need that shot - there are lots of lighting/shadow issues - especially if you're gonna be low budget

I'm almost done shooting my first short.

It's nothing fantastic because of the 1k budget, but I think for upwards to 10k worth of equipment and not so shitty actors I might have a pretty decent project.

Here's a still.

If anybody cares I'll post more.
>>
>>62790747
I'm assuming he only has natural light. There are ways to light around a ladder.

If you have diffusion gels get ready to use em though

I wrote the script in about 2 1/2 months, I'm an acting coach, my friends do a lot of acting and photography as well so it was a lot of pro-bono work that ultimately led up to the project

Impressive. Hope it turns out well.

OP here, this is gonna be my last bump of the night. Happy filmmaking, and God bless.
