Why was this allowed?

I guess they were trying to imply these weapon works using oscillating frequencies.

That would have been major tech back then.
>>
>>62764612
I meant why were those terrible cuts to show activation/deactivation kept?
>>
>>62764655

Because they couldn't remove the blade with special fx.
>>
>>62764655
>>62764655

you do realize this movie was made 40 years ago right?

they didn't have the tech to make it literally come up and go down.

they did the best they could
>>
>>62764683
>>62764705
Couldn't they have matched the cuts better? It looks like they didn't even try. Buster Keaton did a better job on Sherlock Jr. back in the 20s.

What I thought was implied was a connection between the user and the light saber, I watched the movies and thought the oscillations of the light saber were conducive to the force within the user.

Well, Luke was meant to be banging Leia in the sequel too, so....

the white-blue faded saber is much better looking than the shitty over-saturated pointy ended blue saber that everybody uses in the prequels

In the original Stars Wars up to the 2004 DVD release, the hatch of the escape pod is blue for some reason (I guess for some abandoned bluescreen effect). For the 2011 Blu Ray they decided in HD it would be more noticeable and to digitally paint it grey.

Now this would be an actual good change. Except while they changed it to grey in the scene where the droids come out of it (on the left) they forgot that the pod shows up again in another scene (ironically one where there are previous special edition changes) seen on the right, where it is still blue.

There's just as much, if not more, of a jump in continuity with his poses as Luke in the OP, but it looks better because of the playback speed, the wide shot, and the exaggerated motions (they do cut on the motions really well). When he goes from the cliff to the lions he jumps like a foot to the right.

None of this, though, means they shouldn't have tried harder in OP's example. At least get Mark's hands right, come on.

The jump cut during the explosion

>>62766652
>>62766562
A good example is during the celebration sequence, it is significantly darkened, and it's hard to see the soldiers in the foreground. Same with the scenes in the Lars homestead. The despecialized is my go to right now unfortunately until TeamNegative1 release their prints and the New Hope revisited guy does his 720p edits.
>>
>>62764705

Wait, how couldnt they have been able to make the cuts? If you film a single shot, you can cut it into two shots.

Why would they even have to set up lightsaber-is-on and lightsaber-is-off shots?
>>
>>62764918
So the blaster bolts they added through manual compositing. But they had an actual tube wrapped in reflective plastic for the light saber originally. In the first version, these two effects were done differently until they plopped in the light saber fx through compositing as well because the reflective blade didn't quite work. So they were stuck with the the janky cut they had as luke is holding a physical blade.

Ok you complaining Little cunts listen up.

They did the best they could.

Most of the visual effects technology used for the first film was either invented as they worked or heavily developed as they worked.

They had a budget of 10 and a half million, Lucas begged Alan Ladd the head of Fox at the time for the additional 1.5 million so he could complete the final battle.

Fox did not want to shoot the final Death Star Battle, The studio's logic was "The princess is safe now why do you need it "

But Lucas prevailed he got the additional money and completed the film.

I saw it in its original theatrical release in 70 mm dolby 6 track stereo.
I am so glad that you complaining little fucks will never have an experience like that.

So when you ask why was this allowed the answer is " its the best we had at the time "

Because almost all the films you think are great now will not hold up.

Nah just be happy for what you have.
It was considered a kids movie and the fact that it hit so large surprised everyone even George Lucas who purposefully hid in Hawaii when it was released.
>>
>>62764543

This never really bothered me much as a kid, so it doesn't bother me now. The way it cuts, it always felt like there was a heft to the power of the lightsaber. It's as if by turning it off and on, you need to readjust how much force (not Force) you're applying with your hand to hold it up. Though, that feeling doesn't really hold up when you watch it on loop like that.

I remember hearing once that all the lightsabers were white during production and then they came up with the red/blue thing at the last minute before release.

it'd be neat if lightsabers were like naturally white and when two of them came near each other they'd change color based on the user's force association
like the highlander or something
