Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit are two movies that follow the hero's journey to a T yet are completely different in terms of setting/tone/style/etc.
Dark Knight Rise's has a literal abyss as the death/rebirth portion.

I think a lot of mystery movies don't follow the Monomyth.
Anyway, monomyth hasn't been a thing for years. It's all about the BS2 now (Blake Snyder's Beat Sheet). There hasn't been a mainstream Hollywood movie who didn't follow the BS2 made in the last 15 years.

In fact most horror movies don't follow this pattern - the approach to analysis only really works for romance derived stories like adventures, sf, fantasy, mysteries, detective stories and romances.
Horror and things derived from the gothic tradition ignore it completely.
