Yeah, I agree. I think that they removed an integral part of the show once Daphne and Niles got together though... but I suppose that they couldn't have kept that gag going forever anyway.
>>
>>62714112
I liked seeing them together. I didnt like the idea they had to introduce a whacky brother and sister character to replace her void of a whacky english character.

She became more muted and never even brings up her psychic shit after a while... meanwhile I'm still watching s10 and it's still DAPHNE MY DAUGHTER I SMOKE AND I HATE YOUR FARTHER HA HA HAR

Fuck, you guys are making me want to rewatch this fucking show. Is it worth it to watch beginning to end
>>
>>62714156
I think everybody was happy to see them together. It really bothered me that they removed Daphne's quirkiness from the show, and thus left a void to be filled by her mother and brother. I suppose this was probably the most logical thing to do though; Daphne's eccentricity might've become somewhat annoying and Flanderised after so many seasons.
>>
>>62714202

>>
>>62714202
No. Three-camera sitcoms are virtually unwatchable now.
>>
>>62714226
They shouldve given up on the brother and mother asap. They are insufferable.

I'd have written in a cousin of hers who happens to be hot to replace the void. Why mess with a good formula?
>>
>>62714340
Yeah, that would've worked pretty well, or at least a mother who wasn't so annoying. Or even yet, perhaps an unseen relative to whom Daphne writes letters and about whom Daphne talks, reflecting about the letters they write/trinkets they send.
>>

Niles and Daphne were shit together most of the time.
Frasier himself turned into a parody of himself and lost most of his redeeming qualities as he became nothing but a snobby whiner with an itchy burning stick up his ass in later seasons.

I like the series but come on, m8.

I agree, sadly. Jane and David didn't have much chemistry at all as a couple. I think the character of Fraiser was progressed quite well though. It is a steady progression as he gets ever more lovesick and desperate, as he becomes increasingly attached to his hobbies and becomes more insecure about his image.

For an actor Niles really struggled acting straight

Everytime hed touch Daph it was like he was cradling a garbage bag
>>
>>62714705
I like to think that their relationship was a horrible mistake and they were both trying to make it work when it wouldn't.
Niles was clearly infatuated with her and had her so built up in his mind that it's hard to know if he loved the real Daphne. Plus he had plenty of previous relationship issues to make things difficult.
And Daphne was probably desperate for any sort of serious attention from a classy man that she'd convince herself she loved Niles

I agree. Niles' puppy-love was quite immature, and I found it awkward when the writers made the shift from Niles having cutesy boyish love for Daphne to 'proper' love for her. It messed with the show's dynamic and his characterisation too much.
I can't hypothesise too much about Daphne, since her character changed so much I don't think I can analyse her very well.

I'm by no means insulting the show - I'm a big fan of it and watch it whenever I can on TV; I'm just analysing how it had progressed, for better or worse.
>>
>>62714786
Niles = gay
Bulldog = gay
Frasier's Dad = rumored to be gay, never married
Gil = gay just like his character on the show

I don't think I'm gonna enjoy Frasier rewatches anymore as much I used to.
>>
>>62714798
still would
>>
>>62714885
it's one of the impossible problems with shows. Either you never progress the plot, in which case the show gets repetitive and tedious and feels forced, or you try to move it forward but that entails changing the characters and the dynamics that were the reason that people grew to love the show in the first place.
It's almost impossible to do, especially if it's a long-running show with no conclusion planned out

homosexuality is a mental illness and turns the inflicted people into degenerates and it spreads STDs quite effectively
>>
>>62715034
>degenerates
except the actors playing Niles, Bulldog, and Martin hardly fell under that category. All of them kept being gay as a personal matter and didn't run around shoving it into people's faces.

If you want to hate on flaming faggots running around screaming about how much they love buttfucking, go for it, but don't lump the normal ones just doing their jobs in with the degenerates based solely on their sexuality.
>>
>>62714990
I completely agree with that. It's why there aren't many successful long-running sitcoms. In my view, Frasier should've ended around 2000-ish (or around season 8ish). Niles and Daphne should've got married, had a baby very soonafter, and then the show ends... perhaps with Fraiser scheduling a lunch date with Lillith or something in the final episode. In saying that, I'm still greatful for the 11 seasons of Frasier, and I enjoy them all.
Hindsight is always in 20/20...

Eddie was portrayed by a dog named Moose from 1993-2000, after which he was replaced by his son Enzo, a pup sired with the specific intent to look as similar as possible to Moose. Frasier ended in 2004, Moose passed away in 2006.

Despite all it's flaws I love this show dearly. There's never been a more accessible sitcom to both highbrow and lowbrow audiences and the writers' abilities to transition between the two was honestly genuinely amazing.

They're fucking sitcoms.

Friends provided the most laughs on average but fuck Phoebe for becoming more and more annoying. Frasier was the most clever one of the three shows but it had its faults (most have been mentioned in this thread).
Seinfeld was pretty solid all the way through but it lacks a story and character development (oddly only George seems to have an actual life going on and the rest of the cast just does the exact same shit episode after episode) and I do know that's not really too important in a sitcom but eh it adds a little depth to the characters and at least for me makes them more interesting.

I'm working through the series but I've just seen the episode where Frasier and his brother open a restaurant and I'm pretty disappointed.

I feel like there's two shows in there. One with deeper, intelligent characters who make witty observations and spar with eachother, and another that is a goofball sitcom where characters overreact and there is lots of physical humour.

I get that some people prefer the latter, and would love the restaurant episode, but at this point I care about Frasier and want him to have some success, not just lose everything in a goofy way because he's suddenly acting very irrationally.

Basically I'm asking if the show heads in the goofy direction from this point, or if there are still episodes like "The Show Where Lilith Comes Back" with deeper emotion and morality. I just like Frasier and Niles as characters too much to see them fuck up every week and act stupid.
>>
>>62718964

>>62718964

It's a mix from beginning to end. There are plenty of those deeper gems still to be had in the later seasons.
>>
>>62718964
It continues like that until the end of the show: mostly deep intelligent emotional episodes, with the occasional goofball episodes thrown in. The goofball episodes get more common as the show gets older though, but you can't go wrong with seasons 1-8.
