It's something that could have been interesting if handled well, sure, but it isn't really important to the story. There's a reason all the scenes with Luke and pals complaining about and the expansion of the Empire were cut from Star Wars. It's not necessary, it's just fluff.

Similarly, it's not important in the Star Wars saga as a whole, and would be significantly less important if it weren't so closely tied to the fall of the Republic/Rise of the Empire (which in and of itself is already not particularly important). Besides that, the Clone Wars are hardly even featured in the prequel trilogy. They don't even start until the end of the second movie and are over with about half-way through the third.

Everything you need to know about the fall of the jedi are explained in the original trilogy. They were peacekeepers, until a bad guy named Darth Vader betrayed and helped destroy them. There's nothing new added to this story in the prequels. Sure, we get to learn about the details of their fall, but the details are dumb and not important to the story as a whole.
Granted, I kind of enjoy the prequels. I don't dislike them as much as everyone else seems too. But to pretend they have any relevance to the overarching plot of the Star Wars saga is just silly.

After the twist in 5, the Clone Wars series acts as a flashback rounding out Anakin and Obi Wan's story and spacing the cliffhanger between 5 and 6. 6 is the resolution.
