>Your Series 9 two-parter was quite epic in terms of story, setting & pace. It has arguably one of the best cliffhangers we’ve had to date for Capaldi’s Doctor, and we once again have another example of just how successful the Zygons are as a Doctor Who villain. As a writer, how difficult was it to get the right balance, and what was the hardest part to write of the entire story?

>Well, it was a tough one to write. But they all are, usually for completely different reasons. I think the hardest part of the Zygon story was working out how to present the world of it in a coherent and interesting way. There were so many different ways for the story to go, and such a lot of backstory that I came up with and is never shown on screen (like how the Zygons were resettled, why Bonnie is called Bonnie, what really happened with the murders in Truth or Consequences, and - here’s one out of left field - how Courtney from “Kill The Moon” ends up as President of the USA), that it was hard to sift through all of that and streamline it into the narrative that you see on screen. But that’s how I like to do things - I like to play around, and explore the world and the characters, and their various possibilities, before I settle on what I think’s the best way of getting them through the plot. I think the hardest part to write was the concluding part, mainly, again, because there were so many different ways the story could have gone. I like what we settled on, though, although it hasn’t come out yet, and I’m still very nervous.

>Can we expect to see you writing for Series 10, and if so, can you give us any (spoiler-free) teasers as to what we might expect?

>Hah! Well, I would love to write for series 10. And they know I’ll always do a Doctor Who, whether I have the time for it or not. So we’ll see.

>>
>>62684985
Improved dramatically? The Zygon Invasion was the biggest collection of stupid behavior I've ever seen in Who. From the sheer stupidity of the soldiers being led to their deaths because apparently the basic concept of "shapeshifter" is beyond them to UNIT basically going exactly where the Zygon terrorists wanted them to go without even questioning whether it could be a trap to Kate apparently not being even slightly suspicious of the random woman she runs into in a town THEY KNOW IS FULL OF SHAPESHIFTERS...

Part 2 was better but the setup was so ridiculous that it greatly diminished what could've been a great story.

Moffet needs to go away. He's been running the show for 5 years now, which is a pretty long time. He's had plenty of time to leave his mark on the show and explore his vision for it. It's time to let someone else come in with a fresh vision and new ideas.

You fail to enjoy an episode because of the episode that proceeded it? Sounds like autism desu, sounds more like you WANT to find a reason to get angry at moffat because you already hold the opinion that you don't like him
>>
>>62685518
From kill the moon? Yes improved dramatically. UNIT incompetence was really the only massive flaw imo.
>>
Has UNIT ever been competent though?
>>
>>62685608
I watched both episodes back to back, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

>sounds more like you WANT to find a reason to get angry at moffat because you already hold the opinion that you don't like him
I don't like what Moffat has done with the show for the past few years, and so I'm angry at him, sure. But that doesn't have anything to do with my opinion of any given episode of the show. I don't need to invent new reasons to not like what Moffat has done with the show - I have plenty.

>>62685694
To be fair it has been a while since I watched Kill the Moon, and I remember it being so bad that I nearly dropped the show altogether. So it's entirely possible that it was a huge improvement. The Zygon Invasion was still a shit episode, though.
>>
>>62685762
What don't you like?
>>
Is this the crabby crandall thread?
>>
>>62685694
This episode is absurdly uncritical of its own premise and characters are weakly characterized which is pretty bad if you are going to resolve your plot with a passionate debate. Minor characters are ignored to the point of absurdity - Bonnie killed both humans and Zygons but that apparent doesn't count as "going too far".

On the other hand Doctor criticized Bonnie as a tantruming child while idea that humans would club any Zygon they catch out of shape is not even questioned and debated.

True. It's a bit weird that the doctor didn't even mention the humans being bigoted cunts as wrong.

But even if he did address it, there's nothing he could have done about it, that is absolutely how we as a species would react irl if zygons just appeared in the streets.

What a terrible explanation, he's trying to say the doctor gave the monologue and says jokes while he's alone, because he's imagining us as an audience as some kind of imaginary friend and someone to be a hero for? Fuck right off. The monologue happened because it was a cool way to open the episode, he makes jokes to himself because he's a weird cunt. Why try and make some fucking retarded explanation to something that doesn't need one.

Not really desu, Hurt was introduced during the new series, while McGann came seven years after the end of the classic one.
Anyway, I think at least two more is a safe bet. Three isn't too far off, especially if the BBC do like they did in the classic era and sack the Doctor actor when the ratings start dropping too low.

i agree Matt was great but his run got bogged by retarded arcs and river shit. 6 and 7 just kind of sucked. It was more watchable than Tennant's stuff but just barely. I've really enjoyed him again since Capaldi came on though. 8/9 have been pretty good imo.
>>
>>62688186
If we ever get a Doctor to dethrone Tom Baker, it sure as fuck better be one as incredible as Peter fucking Capaldi.

I don't keep up with much behind the scenes stuff, is Smith likely to come back for a multi doctor story at some point in the future? Or is he happy to be rid of it all?
>>

i think he'd probably return but I don't think there any plans to do a multi doctor story again soon
>>

Soon after Smith left and his hollywood career didn't take off he seemed to visibly regret leaving the show, but I think people have mostly stopped caring since capaldi is doing an amazing job

I'd imagine Matt would jump at the chance to do doctor who again, even if it's just big finish stuff like tennant and tate are doing

Eccleston maybe, if by take off you mean still getting work. He did movies before it, he's still doing them. Sure most people only know him as the Doctor, but outside that his career hasn't changed much. McGann does a lot of narration stuff, McCoy still acts in things like the Hobbit.

>>62689006
Obviously. He said he'll stay as long as the fans want him too. We just have to be very vocal about it and outscream butthurt tumbler whales.

Outside the role McCoy is one of my favorite people to have been the Doctor. He's always so great with fans, he's hilarious, and he dresses like a pimp. Every filmmaker should add a bit of McCoy in their work because there just is no downside.

Also I remember rumors back in early episode 7 days that Smith was auditioning for a role in it. I feel kind of bad seeing his career take a shit. What ever happened to that Gosling film? Was that canceled?

What the fuck are you talking about? Nothing about my original post was worshipping her you complete fucking retard. Replace 'gf' with 'friend' if it stops your autism triggering.

Its an example about how shit Danny is. Someone who doesn't usually care enough to bother raging over the show completely hated him.
>>
>>62692366
She is goog to look at, but I want someone new. I thouth the Ponds (which I adored) overstayed in those few episodes of 7th series, but I'll take the worst Ponds episode instead of best Clara one.

But I liked in RTD era that every season was kinda different with cast. I'm hoping that there will be a guy companion now. The Doctor need a buddy, like Jack Harkness or Jamie. I really liked 11 with Owen. I miss that kind of relationship, cause I got bored with Doctor + pretty lady.

I think Moffat is scared of being sexist, so he tries to creates as many strong women as he possibly can, cause we guys have The Doctor.
>>
>>62692913

unfortunately he thinks the only way a woman to be strong is for her to be a dominatrix
>>
>>62692913
>>62692927
sounds about right. It is sad to think that though. Is it Moffat, or is it the BBC. They really need to get everything in check
>>
>>62692632
I think a good basis for a new male companion would be Steven. Young, headstrong, friend with the Doctor but sometimes challenges him when he feels he's doing something wrong.
I could see Capaldi's Doctor working very well with a character like that.

>>62692896
I loved 10 and Wilf in The End of Time. I think 12 and a young male companion would work similarly in some ways, and be the opposite of that in some others.

Oh, and Peter Capaldi revealed in Graham Norton that Clara leaves at the end of Face the Raven.

It's the bums-on-seats principle. It happened back with series three as well, spoiling The Master's return in advance summeries

>"I’ve always loved what Russell did with Billie Piper," he said. "Because you hadn’t really had in Doctor Who a very clear, working-class voice. And I liked how Billie was very clearly someone who lived on an estate, and was a normal person.
"Which in a way the show hadn’t really done that before. It was of its time, in the sense that everyone spoke standard English, and it didn’t always reflect the real world. So I always like it when they have companions who reflect the real world – which Jenna does, because she’s from Blackpool. You can’t get more real-world than Blackpool!"

>There is, of course, a possibility that the next companion could be a twist on the norm – a male companion. What does Capaldi think of Doctor Who turning into an intergalactic lads on tour?
>"I quite like the idea of classic Doctor Who, which I must probably identify as Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker. Which is Jon Pertwee with Katy Manning and Elisabeth Sladen; and Tom Baker with Elisabeth Sladen – I just think that combo of the slightly strange and alien Time Lord with the intelligent, enthusiastic and inquisitive girl is a good combo.
