That little battalion was just Sauron testing Gondor, and not expecting the thin-blooded descendants of Númenor to actually put up a decent fight. And that's not counting a Nazgul, the various ancient powers indebted to Sauron and Morgoth, and so on and so forth that would have started crawling out of the woodwork, if the war would have ever got to start in proper.

And that's saying something since I once delusionally watched every episode of the original seasons as they aired, with the blind hopes that it would return to the form of the first season. I guess I've grown up a bit since then, because I really don't understand why they bothered rebooting it if they didn't improve anything. The whole ripoff plot from X-Men, the flying Asian character with an elaborate introduction only to be killed off in the next five minutes, and the "literally Batman" character... ugh, there was no chance I'd be betting on this dead horse again.
