There hasn't even been a movie event greater than EP1, even though it didn't live up to the hype, the hype and anticipation for a movie has never been greater. We aren't going to see anything near it's level for the force awakens.

Yeah, there was a honeymoon period. The movie was so hyped that a lot of fans and critics had pre-decided that it was awesome. But without the initial novelty of it being a new Star Wars people saw all its flaws.
It's like the opposite of, say, Waterworld. It wasn't hyped and had a long and troubled production, so a lot of critics decided it was shit before even seeing it. Then it had the reputation of being a trainwreck, but lately has been viewed more favourably.
