I don't think/remember if it was in his diagnosis but my own father is a Paranoid Schizophrenic and Bill Murray's was what he thought was one if the most accurate portrayals of his disease and tolerance for mental illness as a whole.
I know it's a comedy, and a good one, but when you look at the reactions to "Bob" what you get is a mix of shallow empathy, forced acceptance, and fear.
That's pretty close from the outside looking in.
