guys i think i cried when the shop burned down and ed just stood there watching his dream go up in flames

what a perfect episode in every way. this show just keeps getting better

>>62616634
he was doing out of "gerhardt loyalty" and knew it had to be done. no turning back there, just have to get it over with.
>>
>>62616804
also i kinda loved the fairly unexpected shootout beween the gangs. huge, violent scene, killing off major characters (although there are a lot of major characters in this season) but never really going over the top in unintended comedy like what happened in true detective's second season
>>

The real champ of that scene was Patrick Wilson. So much emotion on his face in that scene

Why the fuck is it taking so long for someone to upload a 1080p torrent of this episode I mean for fucks sake its almost been a whole day every other episode has been uploaded in 1080p by around noon each Tuesday after each episode. Today, literally nothing. People disgust me.

So many fine moments this episode

>mike milligan/dodd's daughter scene
>holy shit joe died just like that
>indian iggy pop wrecking shit
>peggy's change of heart and the almost comedic ending
>the edgy death conversation with ed "regular joe"
>the awkward exchange between noreen and charlie, who you feel sorry for being put in that position, while the tenseness keeps building
>the bathroom between patrick wilson and reagan with reagan just doing his "a great american can overcome any challenge" shtick and just walking away from the awkwardness

i tell you what; one thing this show is really good at is building up tense in that lovely underselling way
>>
>>62617488
oh and of course peggy's (once again impulsive) change of heart and the twisted irony of it all

i really hope charlie and noreen find love

I did that with Doctor Who there the other night, sat down with a lovely steak and got all comfy and then there was no new episode in my list of episodes, I'd downloading the first one again instead of downloading the second one because the first one was called The Zygon Invasion and the second one was called The Zygon Inversion, seems unnecessarily confusing to be honest, it was absolutely devastating, I watched this movie called 400 Days about astronauts but it was only OK.

When the shootout happened and the Kitchen brothers were blasting the shit out of everyone I started thinking
>Wow, now they're going to make them out to be this invincible, alpha henchman duo that'll only get killed in a confrontation later on
And the next second one of them gets his neck sliced.
What I don't get is why he let the other one live.

I also liked how they used music to foreshadow what would happen in the Simone-Milligan scene

I thought it was interesting that the Hitman was named Virgil.
Virgil lead Dante into hell and through it in the Divine Comedy.
Guess this Virgil wasn't as good a guide.

>>
>>62618832
People in small towns like that did trust each other like that back in the day. But yeah that kid is naïve.
>>
I don't know if I'm exaggerating in my mind but I just watched the episode and I think that was the best episode of television I've ever seen

Those tense moments where so perfect, Reagan was perfect, at least 3 times I was laughing my ass off and then right back to the figurative edge of my seat. Just goddamn perfect.
>>
>>62619057
Well, they had been building up to this episode for about 3 episodes.
>>
>>62619057

It was a great episode, yes
>>
>>62618359
>>62618293
Why not kill him in his fucking house, he lives in a middle of nowhere and you'd have 0 witnesses outside of maybe Peggy. Instead they tried to assassinate him in the middle of the day on town's busiest street and where everybody would instantly recognize them.

It was a great scene, but it was made purely for you to get worried about qt girl
>>
>>62619057
This entire season has been fucking pitch-perfect. Can't wait till the culmination at Sioux Falls, shit's gonna be insane.
>>
>>62619124
Idk, I think it's been good, but not as good as last season
The special effects have been especially bad
>>
>>62619178
Special effects weren't all that in season 1 either. Remember that snow storm?
>>
>>62619178
this
preferred the fairy tale-esque vibe of S1.
>>
>>62618937
> Peggy is shifty as all hell
She's really not, i don't know why people still believe that she's some smart sociopath. After episode 1 maybe, but everything since then showed that she's an idiot who get swayed by the other people and panics easily.

I feel like she might've been planned as a Lester-type character, but it changed as season was moving along, she barely had any screentime this episode, while Plemons had plenty. I'm still curious who're they going to bury in the middle of the night though, that scene was in the trailer.
>>
>>62619178
Season 1 was an 8. Season 2 is a 10 so far imo
>>
>>62619261
I don't think she is a smart sociopath, she ain't Lester from last season. But there is something else driving her, though I don't know what.

>>62619308
My exact thoughts.
>>
so, when the Gerhardts are discussing who killed Rye they said that Ed was "posing" as a butcher

Is he some kind of ex-hitman that's trying to leave that life behind? It would explain how he was able to handle himself so far when people have been trying to kill him

Is he going to turn out to be some kind of badass and murder a bunch of Gerhardts to protect his wife/American Dream?
>>
>>62619499
After typing that I realized the Gerhardts probably just think he's a Kansas City guy posing as a butcher, disregard my retarded theory
>>
>>62619522
Actually, Dodd was pressuring Hanzee into lying about Ed to Floyd. He didn't want her to think of Rye being killed by some nobody butcher's assistant.
>>
>>62619499
No, you're thinking of A History Of Violence
>>
>>62619590
Dodd never really seemed to care much about Rye.

The reason he forced Hanzee to make up that story was because it played into his motives for going to war with Kansas City. Just like how he attacked those two guys with the cattle prod in the donut shop.

Dodd isn't too bright tactically, as he's gotten his family in a war they can't possibly win. But he has been able to shift the strategy of the family towards war thanks to the ripple effect his actions (attacking the donut shop, tying Rye's killer to the Kansas City mob he wants to go to war with).

I'm surprised his mother is let herself get played by him, although Bear is clearly onto the Dodd/Hanzee lie now
>>
>>62619732
That too, but I do feel Dodd cares about Floyd at least a little. And Bear catching up to Dodd's bullshit is great.
>>
>>62619499
Dodd deliberately claimed that Ed was a hitman so that Floyd would ramp up the war against the mod. Hence the shootout in the woods immediately after. As far as I can tell, Hanzee has already told Dodd that ed is a nobody and no threat. There're still gunning for him though.

So whats going on with this show? It's about Fargo the movie right? Is there actually a supernatural element to the show(if so why the decision to do that)? Is the show violent? Is it good?
>>
>>62620681
The only connection to the Fargo movie is the location, and the fact that it's a crime story with a darkly comic tone
It's officially the best tv series on tv in 2015 (as per metacritic)

Just watch it. It's better to just let it all wash over you
>>
>>62620681
Similar tone (esp the 1st season), different stories. Season 1 and 2 are completely different stories with different characters, and they feel quite different as well.
Supernatural element is only being hinted at in this season, not sure what will happen though.
It's violent, but nothing too shocking by today's standards.
It's definitely good, probably my favorite TV show of all time.
You should check it out, especially if you liked Fargo (the film), although expect the tone to be a little less serious in S1 and even less serious in S2.

It's not silly at all. Everything this season is dealing with is part of the new age of America. Even though cancer has always existed, it wasn't really known and dealt with in the same way before the time the show takes place in.

Vietnam was a new kind of war. Cancer is a new kind of disease. The gang wars are a new kind of crime. Do you even motifs?

There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don'tcha know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well. I just don't understand it.

I'll bet you're too edgy for No Country For Old Men too. Send the Coens your Wiki citations for every amoral killer throughout history and tell them why they don't deserve their awards.

The point is you're 15 years old and think gang wars started only in the 70s when they've been around for much longer. Fargo is a great show, you're just an idiot and its over your head.
>>
>>62623607
I thought it was a very silly, unsubtle line too. Although the more I think about it, it might have been Lou trying to use a ridiculous metaphor like the ones Reagan uses to try to get his attention or sympathies. Although probably not and its just a cringey somewhat out of character line.

In the last thread someone had a theory the other kitchen bro has switched sides. I think they just kind of botched the end of the scene.

How did Simone Gerhardt know where to even find the Kansas City Mob in episode 4? Does everyone know and they just refuse to attack it for some reason? Too much of a public place?
>>

>it might have been Lou trying to use a ridiculous metaphor like the ones Reagan uses to try to get his attention or sympathies.
Which would have been out of character in itself. I mean Lou's been pretty damn stoic even if his worries and concerns are coming through anyway, but then he spills his spaghetti to Governor Reagan of all people? In the mens room? The Reagan stuff has all been a nice period element up til now but the whole scene felt contrived to show us the writer doesn't think much of him.

Until yesterday's episode I was hoping him and Noreen would end up together, but now I realize how much that would have just been Sue and Lester again.
I really don't care about Ed or Peggy, even if they're the key to all this. If I'm rooting for anyone at all it's Betsy, and that's not likely to end well for me.

Personally, I'm rooting for Dodd (even if he is a manipulative and sexist piece of shit, he's still cool as fuck) and his bad ass as fuck Native American perfect tracker and killed, Hanzee

I like Milligan too, though. And I'd like to see the couple run the fuck away and escape alive, even though that's not happening.

As for people I want killed, Dodd's slut daughter. Don't get me wrong, I get that Dodd is a piece of shit to her that hits her (and possibly even raped her) but she's not just endangering Dodd, she's straight up endangering her whole family for some guy she barely knows. That's just not right.

She's a typical ding-bat girl who regrets her past life decisions (getting married, becoming a hair dresser, etc.) and now wants some kinda excitement or meaning in her life, even if it means fucking everything up.

When she hit Rye out in front of the waffle house, she decided this would her chance to run away from her boring predictable life but now it's all collapsing around her.

Because Dodd's a power-mad psychopath who hates this brother, hates his nephew (for being the only 3rd generation Gerhardt male, yet he's a cripple) and knows if his nephew is captured by the cops, he'll spill the beans on the family's operation.

>he isn't going to kill family, when the war is already going on.

When his dad stroked out, he immediately jumped in to take over, (something he's been waiting for all his life) then undermined his mother, launched the family into a mob war they were unprepared for, escalated his conflict with his brother, doesn't give a fuck about his other (dead) brother, used his missing (dead) brother to further escalate the mob war, beats his wife, molested his daughter, (and probably his other three daughters) allowed his nephew to go on a hit and told the henchman to kill his nephew if necessary.

I ask because depending on how old she is, I'd feel less bad for her. Milligan is obviously manipulating her and I doubt she means anything to him.
On the other hand, I think she's in love with Milligan

How is ~$700 enough to make or break a deal on a butcher shop? I know it's 1979 but I went to an inflation calculator and it comes out to about $2,500 in 2015.

Couldn't the owner have taken Ed's word on an IOU? They worked together for many years.

What was the gift?

she spent 500 on seminar. she is making up for it by selling the car

read the short story by the same title

They were only short the amount she spent on her seminar, which I doubt cost over $700

Did anyone notice if qt3.14 was reading The Gift of the Magi? I noticed that she was reading The Myth of Sisyophus in that episode.

Yes I get that. What I don't understand is why the owner of the shop is being a hard ass over $700, especially for someone he's known for a long time.

> How is ~$700 enough to make or break a deal on a butcher shop?

It was $500 but the current owner is probably selling the butcher shop on a land contract and if Ed can't even make the initial payment, there's a chance he'll default on later payments and the current butcher is moving to Florida once he sells, so it's not like he can just stop by and ask what's up.

Remember this is 1979; the Gas Crisis, the economy tanking, etc. The butcher is worried he'll ger screwed over.

This, it's the whole point of the time period, the neighbourliness of the american dream is collapsing into paranoia and cynicism
