So long as people want to gamble, fuck and do drugs, an element of society will always rise to surface those needs. The mafia has actually made a resurgence lately thanks to the FBI focusing on counter-terrorism and the mafia helping them in that aspect. Also a lot of the higher echelon mobsters have returned to the old school ways, as opposed to the flash and pomp of John Gotti.
