Something which spooks you in the opposite way a jump scare might, slowly building tension until before you realize it it's the third act and you're terrified and you don't know how you got there

Paul Blart, real subtle
>>
Lake Mungo, probably

Thought little of it while watching, but at the end and after turning it off, it haunted me.

The Innocents subtly creeps upon your mind. It's beautiful and haunting.

Look up Audition. Japanese horror, roughly 15 years old.

Starts out slowly, suddenly gets unnerving and awkward, then stretches that tension out to the end, where it tops things off in the last 20 minutes or so with some seriously disturbing violence.

Amazing movie, ridiculously good child actors too

Pontypool

Eyes Wide Shut honestly. By far the most tense and subtle 'horror' movie I have ever seen. It's fantastic

this, times a billion

"friend" of mine suggested it from Blockbuster back in the day for a group of us around halloween. We watched it after a couple of yawn-a-thon generic horror shits.

Like anon said, first 45 mins we were like, "this is some awkward boring fucking Jap-shit."

"Friend" kept giggling, kept saying "just watch!"

Then the burlap sack scene...

Still get the occasional nightmare from some of those images. 10/10, can't wait for the white-washed american remake starring Kevin Costner and Elizabeth Olsen
