Is it worth watching? I've seen a few people declaring it the best show on television at the minute. Would I still like it even though Cold War history isn't a particular area of interest for me?
>>69946786
It's pretty good. Not spectacular, but probably worth watching if you're looking for a new show to follow.
Its good
>>69946786
I love it because it's Cold War era, and that's not a topic that's touched on much anymore. But they do have aspects that aren't Cold War related. My one piece of advice to you is power through the first season. I didn't fully appreciate the show untilhenry Hits the guy in the head with a beer bottle
>John Hughes read the novel and attempted to write a screenplay after he got the rights from Chbosky; he never finished the screenplay. Hughes was going to use the project as a directorial comeback with more of a dark comedy style. He had in mind particular actors while writing the screenplay, namely, Shia LaBeouf as Charlie; Kirsten Dunst (The Virgin Suicides) as Sam; and Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous) as Patrick.
Would you have watched this instead of the movie it eventually became?

Yes

If it was reddit, it would be Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy again as Patrick
Yes. The trailer always gave me 500 Days of Summer vibes.
ITT, ASOIAF quotes that should have been included in the show.
>"We all know what my brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

>These pardoned lords would do well to reflect on that. Good men and true will fight for Joffrey, wrongly believing him the true king. A northman might even say the same of Robb Stark. But these lords who flocked to my brother's banners knew him for a usurper. They turned their backs on their rightful king for no better reason than dreams of power and glory, and I have marked them for what they are. Pardoned them, yes. Forgiven. But not forgotten.
>I stopped believing in gods the day I saw the Windproud break up across the bay. Any gods so monstrous as to drown my mother and father would never have my worship, I vowed. In King's Landing, the High Septon would prattle at me of how all justice and goodness flowed from the Seven, but all I ever saw of either was made by men.
>It is not a question of wanting. The throne is mine, as Robert's heir. That is law. After me, it must pass to my daughter, unless Selyse should finally give me a son. I am king. Wants do not enter into it. I have a duty to my daughter. To the realm. Even to Robert. He loved me but little, I know, yet he was my brother. The Lannister woman gave him horns and made a motley fool of him. She may have murdered him as well, as she murdered Jon Arryn and Ned Stark. For such crimes there must be justice. Starting with Cersei and her abominations. But only starting. I mean to scour that court clean. As Robert should have done after the Trident.
>Every man shall reap what he has sown, from the highest lord to the lowest gutter rat. And some will lose more than the tips off their fingers, I promise you. They have made my kingdom bleed, and I do not forget that.
>I never asked for this, no more than I asked to be king. Yet dare I disregard her? We do not choose our destinies. Yet we must ... we must do our duty, no? Great or small, we must do our duty.
>>69943644
>I know the cost! Last night, gazing into that hearth, I saw things in the flames as well. I saw a king, a crown of fire on his brows, burning… burning, Davos. His own crown consumed his flesh and turned him into ash. Do you think I need Melisandre to tell me what that means? Or you?
>I never asked for this crown. Gold is cold and heavy on the head, but so long as I am the king, I have a duty … If I must sacrifice one child to the flames to save a million from the dark … Sacrifice … is never easy, Davos. Or it is no true sacrifice.
>Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.
>Her own father got this child on her? We are well rid of her, then. I will not suffer such abominations here. This is not King's Landing.
>I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. Tell me, turncloak, what battles has the Bastard of Bolton ever won that I should fear him?
>No man in the Seven Kingdoms is more honorable than Stannis Baratheon. He will keep his word.
>Few of the birds that Maester Aemon had sent off had returned as yet. One reached Stannis, though. One found Dragonstone, and a king who still cared.
bump for interest, doesnt have to be Mannis quotes

Enough with the Game of Thrones threads. Let's talk about some god tier television.
What are your hopes for Season 3?
Favorite moments/characters?
>>69942236
i dont think you get it anon, le reddit geek culture is obsessed with GOT and every single season they come in here and try to act as aspies "cuz itz cool and fun xD" they literally make threads on their subreddit telling everyone about the live threads on "le4chinz xD". even gook is supporting them.
I want a Chromatics x Angelo Badalamenti collab since Ruth Radalet is in it.
I TRIED to rewatch first two seasons in preparation. BUT HOLY FUCK, season two gets so bad.
Four whole episodes about rewriting history so the South wins the Civil War??
The fact James is allowed back on camera at all.
