They look amazing, too bad entering Saudi as a non-Muslim is incredibly difficult. Honestly, its harder than North Korea or Turkmenistan to get a visa for, they will only give you one for Pilgrimage or Business related.

I'm not sure of the current situation. Saddam Hussein drained a lot of the marshes to use as agricultural land, but since then there have been large-scale rehabilitation programs.
Gonna start reading that as soon as I finish Arabian Sands. Big ups to the last real explorer in history.

Awesome. I'm in Nam right now; if this place wasn't so pissy about visas i'd hop into Laos before my flight home.

Weird, I was reading the wiki article on KB last night. Have you been to the Russian Caucasus? What are they like? I want to hitchhike to India but I'm not allowed in Iran, and Armenia is a pain in the ass to get into. Russia was going to be my last resort as it just doesn't seem that interesting or friendly. But I could go from Abkhazia into Russia and hug the Caspian on my way to Kazakhstan.

Yes, took all those pictures myself, tried to summit Mt. Elbrus, but we got turned back by a snowstorm. That said, the Russian Caucasus is by far the most amazing mountain range I've seen.

>Armenia is a pain in the ass to get into.
I was under the impression that Armenia, with the sole exception of Georgia, was the easiest Caucasus state to enter. Like, hop in the bus to Yerevan, grab visa at the border, continue. Friends of mine, who work in Georgia on the regular, just did it that way; never any problems. Are you sure you don't mean Azerbaijan?

>But I could go from Abkhazia into Russia and hug the Caspian on my way to Kazakhstan.
Coming from Georgia, I suppose? You might not make it past the Georgia-Abkhaz border, depends on the border guards, but there's still a legal border crossing between Russia and Georgia at Kazbegi. Or be all badass and sneak into South Ossetia, and cross into Russia from there.
>>
>>915984
Fuck, I do mean Azerbaijan. Should probably get that sorted out before I start crossing borders.
I think my plans for Georgia-Abkhazia-Russia are all solid and legal.
>sneak into south Ossetia and cross into Russia

>Sounds fun. Is that as bad an idea as it sounds?
Possibly - I think you have to obtain a visa in Tskhinvali, but you'll probably have to acquire some papers at the border for that, and I'm not sure if the Georgia-Ossetia border is currently open. You might be able to bullshit and bribe your way into and out of the whole situation, but that's a big guess.

That said, sneaking in on foot is pretty fucking easy, especially after dark. Long border, few guards.

Tell that to the Mexicans. Unless you've actually done this, I'm calling bullshit. Isn't that whole area heavily mined?
>>
>>916099
Almost accidentially crossed it by daylight. Massive valley between 1 and 2 km wide, guarded by only three border guards in a single glorified shack. They waved us back from a distance, and that was it.

Staying on the main road, you'll get stopped. Go off the beaten track, through valleys and passes, and any border guards present can be bypassed without much effort.

>I think my plans for Georgia-Abkhazia-Russia are all solid and legal.
Unfortunately, no, it's illegal from the point of both Georgia and Abkhazia. Abkhazia doesn't allow to enter at one point and exit from another unless you're Russian citizen.
The border between South Ossetia and Georgia is closed.
