Are trains fun to travel on, is it worth it?
I've been living in Chicago for a few years, and they have a shit ton of train lines that run anywhere from the suburbs to trans-state rails to across the country. I'm considering picking a line and traveling somewhere for the day.

As a mode of transportation, US trains can e Hellish -- outside of certain commuter corridors where they are OK. Trains geared more towards excursion runs can be a fine, if touristy, ways to see some landscape.
