I need a motorhome. A relatively "affordable", "inexpensive", "economic" one. That is, one that is under 10 grand to buy. I dont want a trailer, or a bus, or something huge. Just a truck pictured, or maybe even a van if a truck isnt possible.
I'd prefer used, as I'm not afraid of learning to repair or replace stuff. I also dont know need anything huge, but would prefer something "decent" in the economic range.
What would your recommendations be under criteria like this?
I'm planning on traveling around the country for a full year, and living in it while I do odd jobs in each state, so it's for long term/heavy use.
You could probably get a good deal on a vintage style fixer upper. It won't be modern, it might have a frigidaire in it, but the hipster chicks will dig it.
Or how about a Shasta F-250

This is the kinda bodystyle I'm looking for. I figure something like an f-250 would be less cumbersome to drive than a standard rectangular, bus-style RV.
My biggest worry is that some places are leery of taking campers that are older than 10 years. I would assume many place would say something 20 years or older would be out of the question.

I have something like pic related, it's awesome, it's stealth, it's cheap, it's maneuverable.
But, for heavy use I would say you need three things my van doesn't provide:
1) A hard top (so you don't have to pop/unpop every time you want to move / cook / chill).
2) A bathroom (to take a shit comfortably without having to rush to the nearest fast food joint).
3) A shower (so you don't waste time finding a gym / pool / carwash. And fuck solar showers).
Now, the problem with fully equipped RVs are the fucking "NO R.V. PARKING" signs, and the cops. They (both) are everywhere and will annoy the shit out of you. I would highly recommend being as stealth as possible, thus the perfect compromise between a Ford E-150 kind of van and a big ass RV would be a sprinter van (one high enough that you can stand up in).
If you think the cops and signs are not a problem because you'll stay in RV campground... keep in mind that most places charge over $20 a night, that's $600 a month, minimum. Walmart parking lot is free.
