Have you read Atlas Shrugged? A key point is that art and culture are basically worthless. Those involved in art and culture (and religion) are second to those who engage in building wealth.

Also, contemporary art isn't something many working class people are into. Contemporary art distances itself from from labor, from direct meaning, can confront religion, and so on. None of these things are going to enthuse the rural base of the conservative party.

However, I bet there are plenty of conservative artists that do things that are no longer in style. And art and religion used to overlap very well. Go to a classic art museum, each piece is either propaganda for Jesus or some king.
