I'm moving into DC for a job (consulting). Sold my car so I will be using the metro, my bike, and my feet. I got a small studio in Capitol hill. Anyone have any experience living there? Already bought a good knife off of Amazon to ward off the blacks.
D.C. isn't nearly as sketchy as it used to be a decade ago.

Yea I know, I'm living directly across from the supreme Court so I should be safe in my area. My parents think I'm going to die.

Not having a car in metro DC isn't so awesome. You should replace your car.
Capitol Hill isn't the best neighborhood, doesn't have a gentrified evening scene where people pound the pavement al fresco dining or shopping. I can pretty much predict it, that if you aren't paying $2200 or more in rent, it's probably got some crime, some bums, and a little evening presence (lawyers go home with banking hours). To top it off, if you have university neighbors, and you do, you have the most supremely stupid/naive of tourists which are a target for criminals. Capitol Hill and Adams Morgan had the highest increases in crime in 2015.
