I have 36 hours in the Chicago Loop at the Palmer House (late night Fri-Sun morn), layover really. I've been to the city many times, however, never really downtown, always suburbs for business and not in about 8 years. Impromptu trip...and ironically just got done reading Devil in the White City.
I just figured out the St. Patricks Parade and river dyeing will happen this Saturday. Any tips on the parade without a chair? Short? Must See? Skippable? Has anyone attended the whole days events? Any tips for navigating the Art Institute with limited time? Any safety concerns walking around at night within 6 blocks of the hotel as a female? If I walk to dinner should I taxi the return? I was thinking of Berghoff for one meal, or going down to Lou Malnatis, but it's close to "south side" right? Just curious. Always wanted to do a Rick Bayless night but I think its only like a food court/mall location close. SUPER excited. I love Chicago weather. Weigh in and tell me your favorites with the neighborhood.
