Third party bump. I have such a shit selection where I live.

I bought some hybrid walking/hiking shoes that were really good, even had steel caps. Bit of a pain at airports though.

Aren't steel toe boots uncomfortable though?

If they're made well and sized well they'll have room for your toes so that you don't smash them against the metal every time you step.

Im wearing some waterproof blundstones right now and going to on my trip to Finland and down through the baltic states mid Jan, but they've kept me warm in my situations so far.

I've have a pair of Teva's Reva e-vents which are a great lightweight boot. Some wool socks and you should be fine.

These were walking/hiking shoes rather than boots but no, they weren't uncomfortable. Except when I stubbed my toe sometimes and then hit my toe on the steel. Not that bad though.

Scarpas, asolos, or zambalans will all go the winter wet walking distance.

Blunnies are good working boots too but don't have much arch support.

I actually walked from Sevilla in Spain up to Karlstad in Sweden, took 6 months, and destroyed two pair of boots. Oh and I started in January this year so it was cold for a long time. Only thing I can really take away from this is DON'T get gore-tex boots. weekend hiker might say it's good but if you're gonna push it, walk the month with a decent pack on, they are worthless. It took just under 3 weeks before the Gore-tex was ruined for me after I tried it for my second pair. Worst decision ever.
