Sonn i will make a small roadtrip from LA to vegas, death valles, yosemite, Reno, SF, back to LA. Any tips and tricks? things to see, things to avoid? im from the netherlands and got my english from southpark, family guy and other stuff. Is there a good shooting range in the middle of the desert where i can shoot full auto? I found some in Vegas but they are all indoor. Ill be travelling in the first 2 weeks of january
You will find a lot more outdoor gun ranges in Arizona than NV.

You can also skip Reno unless you want to ski, and even then you can go to Mammoth instead. All your gambling and whoring needs are better served by Vegas. And I say that as someone who lives less than a mile from the Reno arch.

If you're going to Vegas there's absolutely NO reason to go to Reno, unless it's on your route somehow. Reno is Vegas' retarded, redheaded, autistic stepchild that is kept chained in the closet.
There are plenty of shooting ranges around Vegas if that's your thing.
The desert - prepare to be underwhelmed. The "desolate beauty" thing wears off after about mile 5 of 300. Yosemite's amazing though but January is a BAD time to be there.

German here, just returned from Las Vegas.
I seriously would not want to try another fucked up gaming town in the same trip. Vegas is more than enough for an total and utter Burgerland overdose.

really nice landscape, but currently a lot of roads are closed (eg. the road through the main part of the valley, along badwater), so it could be rather underwhelming.

I live in Mammoth and have to drive to Carson City and Reno twice a month for work. I never thought I could hate a highway as much as I do 395.
At least it's not the 405. I used to sit in that parking lot almost three hours a day.
SF, what kind of things do you like and how long will you be there? There are a lot of really cool out of the box or unique things you can do there if you have enough time. Plus a ton of really good coffee and food.

In most cases it's actually cheaper to go to Vegas. Flights are partially underwritten by the casinos and rooms are actually less in most cases than Reno.
The first time I went to Vegas I booked just a couple weeks in advance and was really trying to go to Reno since I had been there and knew my way around, but the flight/room packages were WAY more than Vegas so I said "fuck it" and went there. 14 trips (15th in a week) later the rest is history. If all you've seen is Reno you have to stay on the Strip at least once. Trust me.

Try to book a night tour of Alcatraz. You have to book pretty far in advance, but its worth a try. If you cant get a night tour, go in the day anyway. It's pretty cool.
