i made a post the other day, but it done died. im trying to move to washington, oregon, or california. today, im focusing my research on california, but i will appreciate your suggestions and insight on WA and OR towns as well. if i choose CA, i want to be within 2 hours of LA, because im an aspiring actress. i know a lot of you will say "durr if u want to act u have to go to la" but thats not necessarily the case, because i just started and its better to start out somewhere other than la from what ive heard. anyway, does anyone know about any cool towns within 2-3 hours of la? im looking for someplace hip, unique, maybe mystical, artsy, with things to do and big enough to have a theatre, or with theatres in close proximity. what i really want is a place in or near the mountains around there, but thats not entirely necessary, just a big bonus. i really really really dont want anything boring or same old same old. i want a place that has a lot of personality and character. i will appreciate anyyy suggestions : )

San Diego
>>
>>1038877
whats it like there? whats the vibe?
>>

>wannabe actress
>not an idiot
>>
>>1038880
so im an idiot because i want to be an actress? i said "wannabe" jokingly poking fun at myself. so, im not seeing your point.
>>
>>1038881
Because it isn't a viable career. You're probably going to end up waiting tables hoping for another bit part like 99% of the aspiring actors and actresses.
Look at most of the current actresses- consider the popular show "Girls", literally each actress has a role due to nepotism, not talent.
>>
>>1038896
you think i dont already know how tough it is? obviously you dont know me, so you have no way of judging the amount of talent i possess. im not worried about my financial situation. i have that taken care of. im confident in my capabilities, and this is my greatest passion in life, among others. this thread was not posted for you all to try to decipher whether im an idiot or going to make it in the acting business or not. i am just trying to discover cool new places, so lets talk less about me and more about the true matter at hand.

Artsy fartsy. Laid back. Also home of comic con. Mountains just to the East, still in San Diego county. Indian reservations and casinos out that way in the mountains, too
>>
>>1038903
sounds nice, ill definitely check it out. thanks! : )
>>
>>1038865
casting couch...ahahaha. yeah, dont go down that road, or desk OP!!!

every asshole who doesnt live in LA and work in the industry says this, and everyone who isnt a complete moron knows all this already, just give it a rest you bitter asshole

its all about how willing you are to stick your neck out and network, you wont be household famous likely but you can run a good amount of money from doing commercials, music videos, tv shows etc.

>>1038864
as for living 2 hours away from LA, youll be hard to find a place within the "arty" or "mystical" quality in a place thats affordable, also NOT in LA county. unfortunately you will HAVE to settle for basic suburban or urban housing unless you have a lot of money to pay the rent in a place like Echo Park, or Downtown Long Beach or Westwood. but its a big county and you can live in the valley in like Valencia or Pasadena for cheapish rent and go over to Hollywood Burbank Glendale and Downtown with a quick trip on the freeway. also be aware of where youre buying, being a short drive to the freeway is very important

exactly. thank you.
oh and ah i see. : ( that sucks.. ill keep that in mind but im gonna try and keep looking around with my false hope haha
>>
>>1038878
San Diego is for people too boring to like LA is more rednecks and families
>>
>>1038975
This.

Echo Park and Pasadena are pretty good options. They're close enough to Hollywood and are artsy, especially in certain areas and events. Burbank and Glendale are closer to Hollywood and also good options. The rent is cheaper in more suburban parts.

Not to be creepy, but I have a friend who is renting out her rooms in Glendale if you're interested. It's near the 210 and 2 freeway, about ~20-30min away from Hollywood. She's the artsy type (does DIYS, sews, paints, travels, etc.) and knows a lot of niche stuff in the area.

>>1038877
I don't recommend San Diego. It's actually ~3hours from LA and although the weather is nice, it's only good for weekend getaways or for families because it's mostly suburbs.

oh hmmm.. confusing conflicting opinions on san diego
>>1039112
oh thank you, i will research those places for sure. i wont be moving until summer though : p
>>
>>1039155
Good luck to you!

LA is a HUGE county, and the city itself is divided into really affluent and really shitty sections. Let me know if you want to keep in touch about the renting situation if you decide on moving to LA.

thank you ! : )

If you really want an edge up on your career, move to a flyover state with massive film subsidies.
By contract they need to hire x amount of local talent.
My friends in New Mexico are getting work they would never get in LA.
lots of movies being made and at least five TV series going to his year.
>>
>>1038864
lets be honest honey, you aren't gonna make it big.
>>
Just an idea but you could try producing your own acting content for the Internet. I was a huge fan of a youtube sketch group called GoodNeighbor and now they're all on SNL
>>
Atlanta, New Orleans, and Wilmington North Carolina are the top filming spots outside of LA and NYC
>>
>>1038864
Once you turn 16 ya gotta leave SevenSuperGirls

it's the rules
>>
>>1039437
oh, yeah ive thought about that, its just hard to find information about that type of thing, and obviously im nervous about getting myself into situations of uncertainty.
>>1039448
ha ha ha go to hell. dont need to hear it, and dont want to. your comment is literally useless.
>>1039470
oh wow, i heard that youtubers never got big in actual film/tv for some reason. but that definitely is something ive been wanting to do, and thought a lot about, and i am planning on it at some point. : )
>>1039498
yeah, ive heard a lot about that i just dont think i want to live in the south again. blegh. living in florida and tennessee gave me a huge stigma against it, although im sure the cities youve listed are more sophisticated and less redneck trash than where i lived. so, im not totally against it. actually ive always sorta wanted to live in nola.
>>1039502
????? explain ?
>>
>>1039470
>>1039511
i find that the "successful" people from youtube (the ones that actually make it big) are usually the ones that aren't "youtube successful".

for example, justin bieber was found on youtube but no one really knew followed him on there. however, there are some youtube musicians with millions of subscribers but they will probably never make it huge in the mainstream industry.

other examples are tv shows broad city, workaholics, musicians the weeknd, joey badass

i'm not really sure why this phenomena occurs, but it is pretty apparent. the more grounded you are in youtube, the less likely you'll catch a big break. and that's my youtube celebrity rant for the night.
>>
>>1039518
What about Tori Kelly?
>>
>>1039518
hmm yeah, you know what i know exactly what youre talking about. that is pretty strange, i wonder why that happens. another example is before portlandia was made carrie brownstein and fred armisen had some website "thunderant" where they made a lot of portlandiaesque videos and thats where the idea for the show came from.
>>
>>1039511
>its just hard to find information about that type of thing

That is a barrier to entry and will work in your favor if you do the work to dig up that info.

Protip: contact some agents.

Not OP, but go fuck yourself. If that's what she wants to do then let the woman follow her dreams. Travelling is fucking stupid too if you want to be "practical" or "realistic"

Sometimes all it takes to make it is being in the right place at the right time. But part of that is being hungry to make it. I have friends that struggled for years before it finally started working out for them. I have friends still trying to make it work out for them.

Cali's a wicked place but definitely competitive, OP. Quite a lot of people move to Toronto as some would say their chances are better there (and there's still quite a lot of work/it's still a relevant city for getting casted).
>>
>>1039656
that makes a lot of sense, thank you
>>1039658
thank you. it makes no sense to me why one person would try to discourage another from doing what makes them happy. and ya know, i ve considered canada many times too, i just dont know if i want to lose us citizenship. however, i very well may change my mind about that one of these days. canada seems like its beautiful all around and definitely the type of environment im drawn to, but there are some places down here that id really miss a lot.
>>
>>1039679
Uh, how old are you? Why do you think you would have to give up your citizenship?
>>
>>1038864
lovely, I dont think 4chan is the right platform for you, because all those stupid guys here will try to discourage you, kick ass girl.
>>
>>1039709
im 19. i thought moving to another country meant giving up us citizenship? have i been misinformed this whole time?
>>1039714
i know. a lot of people on this site are complete fuckwads, but sometimes i get valuable insight here that i cant find elsewhere. what would you recommend me do instead?

>>
>>1039825
I would follow your dream but accept that there's a big chance of not getting famous. But if you love acting and doing theatre and shit, keep doing it because it makes you happy! If you are getting homeless because you dont have any money then search for another job. Succes!
>>
>>1039989
thanks : ) i know. my chances may be slim. im just going to do my best at what i love and see what happens. like i said, my financial situation is taken care of so im not worried about being homeless, and i have other creative pursuits to fall back on as well.
