I'm going to spend the next 7 years of my life traveling almost full time but also mixing it with work in other countries. In the next year I'm planning on touring around North America on my motorbike before quitting my job. Afterwards doing a year of work-holiday jobs in either NZ or Australia and then traveling in that region for as long as I feel like it. Then move on to backpacking around East and South-East Asia for a year and then work for a year somewhere over there teaching English before spending another year traveling through South Asia and Iran. So at that point, 6-7 years from now I'll be in Europe where I plan on getting a masters degree and then who knows. I'll be in my 30s by then, I'll probably look for a more stable job and try to start a family, either in Europe or back here in Canada (dual citizen).

If I had unlimited cash I would do one of those 8-10 month around the world cruises with my wife. It would take a lot more than 100K.

All I'm gonna say is: you ESL guys have it pretty good. Ride that gravy train while it lasts. I kind of wish I stayed another year or two but going back would be admitting defeat. I'm staying even if it takes me a year to land my shitty office job.

Seriously though the US job market is a disaster for recent grads. ESL is pretty much the only way I've seen for me to travel and also have a job for when I graduate. Otherwise I'm screwed.

I just got 6 vip tickets to the electric daisy carnival festival in Las Vegas in June. gona be there for 10 days. I'm 22 and all of my mates are the same age and were from New Zealand and We have never been to the USA. I have $100,000 that I'm going to blow during the trip. I'm shouting my friends a all expenses paid trip. How easy is it to score coke/Molly/weed? We have a lot of weed here in NZ but no coke and the quality of Molly is shit so I don't even bother. Any recommendations on where to stay like a baller and what to do? Also is it worth getting a vip host or bodyguard to make sure we don't get scammed? We basically wanna go shoot guns, do drugs and get pissed and fuck girls and visit awesome clubs/parties. Maybe go to the Grand Canyon

I think if you're trying to have a time like that you should talk to a concierge service, just google "vegas concierge". they can get you whatever you need for the right price. you can try to ask any cab driver or doorman too, no one gives a fuck the worst thing someone will say is "sorry bro don't know where to get that". Also, you don't need a bodyguard, that's for sure. If anything that would make you even more of a target. Try to stay low-key if possible. The Bellagio is where ballers stay BTW.

This is more /m/ but I guess there's some crossover.
I had a great time climbing this spiral bridge in Chongqing, China. It's kind of scary how high it is and how low the side-wall was. The whole climb I'm turning into the wall due to the turn of the spiral and a bit of fixation on the edge. I had to keep trying not to look at the drop.
I need recommendations for 'real traveler' backpacking locations/routes.
I currently find myself in Southeast Asia and while I espected there to be a lot of tourists I had no idea what it would actually be like. I thought Cancun was the byword for over traveled; every place here is orders of magnitude beyond that I'm currently in Cambodia and there's a fucking Hard Rock Cafe up the street. It's also insanely cheap here and everything is available so I'm enjoying it as a cheap luxurious vacation, but I'm not getting that sense of loneliness, hardship, and worry and since I'm saving so much with it being so cheap I'm gonna go somewhere 'hard' after this for a few weeks or months.
I'm thinking maybe Sri Lanka or a Kenya-Uganda-Tanzania loop. Other ideas welcome. I'm looking for something where I won't see many other tourists/backpackers, but I don't want to be kidnapped by al quaida and I don't want it to cost a crazy amount (ie not more than $15 on accom a night, although I don't really care about quality or comfort).
- Are there any multi-country West African tours that can be done independently without breaking the bank that have a few highlights?
- Paraguay?
- Papua New Guinea?
- Is anywhere in Eastern Europe under-traveled? (Ukraine?)

Just go up to China. The language barrier itself is a challenge. Try not to stay in hostels - ask people where to find a 'lu gwan'. Its a cheap hotel, and they're everywhere. The transport is cheap and fast. If I was you I'd go deep into northern Yunnan and disappear into the temperate valleys comprising the foothills of the Himalayas. Although I've been to Yunnan before, the highest I went was Lijiang. Checking out the Burma/Tibet/Yunnan crossroads is on my itinerary.
Sri Lanka is babby tier, going there in two weeks for 5 days. If this threads still up I'll report back on how many whites there are.

4chan is NOT blocked in China but 99% of google is, including captcha which 4chan uses.
So...either use VPN or 4chan pass and you're fine. Heavy manual IPs in your hosts file will also work to a point but you have to update it sometimes and it doesn't *always* work.

General TEFL thread.
I'm yet another special snowflake teaching English overseas. At first I was focused on Korea for the financial opportunities but after doing some more research I decided on China. I got offered a contract for 10,000 RMB with a free apartment(or 3000 housing allowance) in Beijing. I'll be leaving February 25.
I will be training for two weeks before I actually start teaching but I was curious if anyone had some insight on how much money to bring with me to survive the first month. I get paid on the 10th of every month so I need to survive at least one month with my own money.
Any other tips or advice on how to not get completed screwed is greatly appreciated.

Is it a good idea to travel solo if you have severe social anxiety?
It might be a stupid question, but I just don't know what to do. I really want to do something with my life, you know, go out, explore the world, meet people. But that last part is what really terrifies me. I'm afraid that if I do end up going to some foreign country, I'll pretty much just sit inside and shitpost on 4chan all day, and in that case I don't know if there's any point in travelling in the first place, since I can sit inside much more comfortably at home.
Meeting people is completely impossible for me in my home country due to the anxiety and a general lack of social skills, and I wonder whether this would be different at all in a foreign country. At first glance it seems more difficult because of the language barrier, cultural differences, etc, but on the other hand maybe the whole culture shock and change of scenery would be beneficial in some ways. That's the thing I'd like to know, is it easier to meet people and make friends while travelling? And is there any point in travelling if you stay completely alone all the time and avoid meeting people? I'd especially like to hear about the experiences of other travellers with social anxiety.
One thing to consider is that I'd most likely avoid hostels and instead prefer to book apartments through sites like airbnb, because sharing rooms with other people would be way too stressful. I guess there are some opportunities to meet people outside of hostels, but realistically, I'd probably end up being by myself most of the time.
So yeah, am I completely retarded for even considering travel in my current situation? Should I wait until I get my shit together before doing this? I really want to travel, but I fear it might end up being disappointing because of my fucked up mind...

I wouldn't say I had severe social anxiety when I started but I did love having my comfort bubble that I never left. I worked the same job for 11 years, I never went out, never met new people then one day I decided to take a 3 week trip and throw caution to the wind. Best decision I've ever made.
How do you feel about overcharging foreigners officially?
The prime example is the difference between local/foreigner price to Taj Mahal. Something like 2/700 rupee.
Same crap happens in most of Africa.
I hate that. Spent 3 months in Egypt and did not enter any of these paid archeological sites exactly because bastards wanted to charge me 5× more than a local.
Gave in only once, at Vic Falls in Zimbabwe, and paid $40 instead of $10.
What do you think about starting to charge Africans and Indians 5× higher prices in Europe?

What? In pretty much every western country there's one entry price for tourist sites. There are discounts for students, kids, and retirees but all adults pay the same.
OP, you just have to accept it. Don't look at the prices for locals because it will just make you rage. I don't believe that you went to Egypt and didn't pay to enter anything because no one is stupid enough to travel to another continent only to not see anything.
I no longer feel bad about these price differences, at the end of the day the locals have to stay in their 3rd world shitholes while I return to an economically powerful country where I have a coushy job, healthcare, a nice play of my own, lots of clothes, the ability to eat so much that I would shit out more calories than those niggers consume... Life is fucking fantastic for me even if I am ripped off by being charged more than locals.

Im pretty sure this is the first time I've ever been on /trv/ in the 8 or 9 years i've been coming on 4chan, but that picture caught my attention on the front page.
I have to say, having travelled a bit, despite how much I love my good old american hamburgers and ar-15s, we have absolutely NOTHING on good street food compared to most of the rest of the world.
A handful of falaffel and hotdog stands absolutely pale in comparison to the hawker centers and carts in Asian nations I've been to. I remember I was in singapore for business around ramadan time. they had all these hilarious signs in the windows of muslim shops "break fast here! 40% off" or something, every afternoon I would swing by geylang, and get a fresh bread+egg made on the spot by one of those muslim stands (pratha I think it's called) and a nice big beer from the chinese noodle place right next door
your pic just got me reminiscing, really wish we had more exotic food available 'casually' (e.g. not defrosting something from an international supermarket, or having to go to a restaurant) stateside
