I'm going to Taiwan in two weeks for two weeks. What kind of weather should I expect? Are there any must do's or must visits in Taiwan for winter?
>>1055813
I don't think they have a "winter," but just this season that's not as hot as usual but more rain so there's less humidity? As such, outdoor activities aren't so great. But you could still enjoy the market and other things. Some people do the whole hiking thing which is unbearable during monsoon season.

Only things on my list so far are:
Lots of food
Night market
Taipei Zoo
>>1055865
Taipei 101
Some temples
Buy electronics
Hey guys, I need some tip, I have never traveles outside of my home state of Maine, and I will be going to Mexico, the country in a few weeks. I also will be going on my first airplane ride.
What should I be prepared for? Also what are the chances that I will be raped and murdered by either Isis or the cartel?
>>1055639
Mexianon here. U will be cool unless u seek for troubles mate. Never trust anyone. Can u speak spanish? Which cities will u visit? Carry small pocket money and only necessary debit and/or credit cards. Do not seek drugs neither be openly dumb by flashing money amd valuables. Take into account since December 12th many mexican eople start holidays in this failed shitholish country

I will be leaving in January, I am mainly going to be around Riviera Maya. Im going because I work for a big bank and because I did so well they are sending me on this trip.
What type of food should I try

Going to be headed to Portland, Oregon next month with friend. Anticipate spending some of the time outside/wandering around until we get set up with jobs. Was looking for something like in picture but for $30 or less. Also, any tips regarding traveling and temporarily living on the streets welcomed. Can't really find anything online that isn't just a plain canvas duffel bag for cheap.
>>1055473
Where can I buy a bag like this?
Military surplus stored for used ones
>>1055473
Sort of off topic, but just want to warn you that you and your friend will be one of a few thousand homeless already looking for a job. It's not an easy city to find work, because it's a prime destination for people who are trying to do exactly what you're doing. It's a great city with a lot to do, but come with some emergency money so you don't get into serious trouble.
Which countries are not safe [for pussy white niggas like u]? Please add to this because I want to go to Latin American countries and Africa but I'm too lazy to research each individual nation's entire history and societal structure. I just want to avoid getting killed by stinky ISIS faggots, Mexican cartels, and whatever other African fucks besides ISIS East are out there.
Mexico is fine if you just avoid bad areas and aren't stupid. Blot out Somalia for fucks sake.
>>1055134
Made this for you for the Americas
>>1055177
And here's Africa
What's the appeal of travelling for you? What do you get out of it personally?
>>1054466
I've always wanted to travel and see new places. It's fun, eye-opening, and lets you discover new music, foods, and friends that you wouldn't have otherwise.
In regards to what it's done for me, well... traveling has helped me build my confidence immensely. Before I took my first trip, I was a socially awkward virgin who couldn't string together more than a few sentences or talk to a woman unless I was blackout drunk. I was always afraid of getting judged, couldn't converse with strangers, had no hobbies, and was an all-around autist who did little more than sit home and play video games all day.
Now I've slept with about twenty women, have had a few long-term relationships, and feel comfortable in my own shoes - which is probably one of the best outcomes I could have gotten from traveling. I know myself better, know what I enjoy better, and think I've become an all-around better person.
I hope I don't sound to cliche, but whatever. Traveling really did help me build myself up and gave me a lot of cool stories and friends and things to look forward to.
It's a hobby, not much more I don't try to interpret too much into it or think it' something greater than that. I also like photography so taking pictures in other places is also a part of it
I was a late bloomer.. didn't really enjoy travelling until i hit 30.
I enjoy seeing new places, taking photos etc.
Can anyone from expereince tell me how warm it is likely to be?
websites suggest a bit chilly and a jacket will be needed, but looking at historical temperaturres for last 2 years suggests low 20's celcius which is pretty nice for a northern european (shorts weather).
whats the truth?
thanks
From Vegas
Pants, light jacket.
If you're from a place with real winter seasons, you won't find Vegas to be nearly as bad. Now, if you're going outside of Vegas to the places like you've pictured, you're gonna want more. It's damn cold out near arizona and Utah. This is where you'd find places like your picture.
thanks, no will just be on strip day and night walking it i the day between resort and likely in the evening occasionally... are your suggestions daytime or night, or both, if it is low 20's in day we consider that nice summer day in n europe. is that likely?
>>1053145
Prepare for 10C weather because that'll probably be more the average. It's below 20C already here, with some nights hitting the 35-40 Ferenheit mark. Not sure where that lands on the Celsius scale but it definitely gets pretty cold. If your winters average less that 10C you'll love the weather here.
Recommend nights on the strip as its definitely more lively. But day time trips are better because you'll have smaller crowds and less drunk tourists.
I found really cheap tickets (40 euro both way) from where I live (Warsaw) to Kutaisi in Georgia.
I'm thinking of jumping on the offer but I'm worried this might be a bad idea with all the ISIS shit going on. Has anyone from this board been there or to the surrounding countries? What the prices like? I'm sort of on a tight budget and the return flight would be a week after I arrive in Georgia.
Thanks!
>ISIS
>Georgia
Literally what? Just go you autist, it's a great place.
>>1052914
>ISIS
>Georgia
Also for double that price you can easily get a Wizzair flight to Kutaisi. Depending on the price of a Ruskie transit visa, it might actually turn out barely more expensive than the train.
>>1052918
I thought it was implied that I was talking about a cheap airline flight (yes, it's Wizzair). What did you think I was taking?
Anyone else here travel largely to try new food? This is something I almost never see on /trv/, which is a shame.
Singapore is amazing for this, the food you get in hawker centres is a slightly sterilised version of street food from India, Malaysia etc., but with the added bonus that you're far less likely to get sick from it. Absolutely delicious, I'd recommend Singapore to anyone looking to try new food. If you have a local friend, even better - Singaporeans are fucking obsessed with food. My buddy's gf took us out to a place in the heartlands to get the best Salted Egg Yolk Crab dish she knew of (can't remember the Mandarin name atm), absolutely amazing. Pic related.
Taiwan is great for it too, because of the night markets. I've never had fruit that fresh before, and the breakfast was always great (my memory is gone to shit, can't remember the Mandarin names off the top of my head... Soy Milk and those egg rolls done on wraps)
I also loved Shanghai for it. Chinese people shit on shanghainese cuisine because of muh sichuan, but xiaolongbao, beggars chicken etc. are beautiful.
I'd love to try India for food some day, anyone had experience with that?
Where's your favourite country for food, /trv/?
I went to the South of China early this year, the food in Meizhou was amazing. Hong Kong food is the worst (on a budget)
>>1051595
I know, unrelated- but Anon, did you ever get travelers diarrhea? I'm going to China and worried about that, my days are full booked.
>>1051599
Never got it in China (got regular diarrhea, but not Travelers), but got Travelers Diarrhea in Burma. Fucking sucks, you have it coming out both ends for a few days, can't eat anything, and get weak (had difficulty carrying my bag by the end).
I lived in China for a year and never got it though, I'll say that.
Take precautions just in case. Try not to eat from really shitty places. Take some immodium with you, and those rehydration packs. There are also plenty of isotonic drinks in Asia to replace electrolytes etc.
Wouldn't worry too much about it. Worst comes to worst, you spend a few days in the bathroom before it runs it's course, nothing serious
Hi all, I'm an Aussie looking to work in Canada sometime in 2016 and am trying to gather as much accurate info (and funds) as I can.
My problem is all the info I'm finding is pretty conflicting.
Some sources say to go with a company like Global Work & Travel Co, whereas some say they're a total scam and you're better off organising it yourself. Some sources also say applying for a working visa can take up to 4-5 years and you'll only be approved if you have savings of around $15,000 and a University Degree...
Whereas.. my friend works in Japan currently and applied as a spur of a moment thing with only around $5000 saved, was approved for a job in a hotel within the week and a month later he was working and living there. Has been for 2 years now.
I'm a little confused and deflated having never travelled overseas before I'm not sure what to think! Any info on living and working in Canada, especially as an Aussie, would be greatly appreciated!
>Australian
>Wants to live and work in Canada
That's not even possible unless you've got a PHD and 15-20 years of work experience....and even then, it's not likely.
In Canada, we only accept people from third world countries to live and work here, even for a short period of time.
>>1057506
Really? :( Not even in bars and the like? Surely that can't be right.
>>1057506
Also, if so, how did a classmate of mine get a job in Canada being a bricklayer with no further education after Year 12 (apart from his brickie apprenticeship), at the age of 19?? He's been living there for 3 years now working on construction sites...
How do you meet people when you're travelling?
>>1057391
I exist and people walk up and talk to me because I am weird looking.
They ask me a bunch of questions and never go away no matter how much I try to sperg them away or stare in angry silence.
It's not that hard
>>1057395
What's weird looking about you?
>>1057391
I have no idea op. Usually in bars or somewhere where you will have a high chance of interaction like a festival.
Ive decided that next time I go into a bar I I will offer to buy someone a beer in exchange for a cool story of theirs
Anyone who's visited/vacationed in/ lived in Vancouver here? How is it?
I'd like to spend sometime there this summer while on my school break, but I'm still in the very early planning stages
How cheap can a trip there be??
its cool there!
Where are you traveling from?
What are your interests?
I spent 18 years there growing up. I know about most things other than the bar scene.
You can get in a good hostel like this for
http://www.hihostels.ca/westerncanada/168/HI-Vancouver_Jericho_Beach/index.hostel for
$30. I'd put at least another $30/day for doing stuff, food and travel. Could try couchsurfing.
It's a great setting for a city, but it isn't that great a city to live in.
If you're into restaurants, there's really good seafood, and a variety of ethnic food.
I've lived here my whole life. It sucks, go somewhere cool instead. Unless you're white then you'll have a good time.
How do you meet people when travelling by yourself? I've been watching a lot of episodes of The Simpsons and keep feeling like I'm doing this wrong
>>1057015
Every single year it gets harder and harder to make connections in 3D.
I honestly do not know what to do about it.
>>1057017
I often want to strike up a conversation with people at bars or hostels but I dont even have their instagram codes :;_;

I'll be going on a Princess cruise around the caribbean on January.
Does anyone here have any experience with them? I'd appreciate it if you shared tips or info.
>>1056950
>that pic
Well, shit. I wasn't expecting that.
What could you possibly need to know? You are on a cruise. They will take you places, they will feed you shit, or good food at an exorbitant price. You will get off the ship at ridiculously overpriced markets with the other 5000 captives. You will have to buy their boioze at 10x markup.
In conclusion, cruise companies make sure to give you the bare minimum to keep you alive while gently soaking and drying you in salt water and sunshine in order to squeeze every last dime from your credit limit.
A cruise is my idea of hell.

>I'll be going on a Princess cruise around the caribbean on January.

A level above the NCL and RC regular ship, and two level above the low tier Carnival experience. Ship and food perks aside, it simply means you'll be traveling with people an economic class above that riffraff (and possibly a little older too).
Buy travel insurance that has medical coverage. If you're smart, you'll have used a travel agent that gives it for a fee, but refunds it when you end up not using it.
Don't skip shows and events. If you don't go with the flow on what they have planned for you, you'll start thinking like you're in that movie Groundhog Day with the same thing over and over as that schedule gets tucked under the door. Also, cruises are only as fun as the people you hang with on the cruise. Enjoy them like you would a family reunion. If they are boring, (or you are) you'll be bored. Load up the Kindle. Drinking will run up your bill, so maybe think about limiting it to when it actually matters to you, or having your wine bottle follow you from dining room to the bar, or imbibing more in ports, or like just the 1st or last day. It's one of the money makers of the industry to charge a ton for it, and limit your duty free til the last night.
I'm going to be in Paris this for a few weeks and I don't really have a place to stay or much money.
I'm going to try couchsurfing. Is there anything else I can try to find places to stay? Maybe sleeping in parks?
Also I'm Algerian (but an atheist), will that be a problem?
>>1056937
i would go with some money dude if you think you can actually sleep in a park then go for it but to me it seems retarded sense it will be cold as fuck. You will probably get sick
>>1056939
I've got some money, but not enough for accommodation
>>1056941
I wouldn't go in your situation but im not you so do what you want
How do you guys manage data costs while abroad without spending too much? I know simcards with generous amounts of data are cheap in Russia, but is it like that elsewhere too?
Step one: Unlock your self phone. Make sure it's GSM (sim card) or GSM capable
Step 2: Buy cheap prepaid sim card
I am in Bahrain now. I got a plan with Viva. Sim 2BD. 1BD of that went to the account. They have a prepaid plan of 2gb, unlimited Viva calls, 50 minutes free non-viva, and something else international (didn't pay attention because I'd use data for internatiinal calls through whatsapp or LINE.). Got the sim card Weds or Thurs. It's Saturday. I burned through the 2gb already. Do they cut it off? Nope. Just slow speeds from LTE. You can still do everything but stream/talk over data. 1BD = $2.65 on average. So I'm spending about $8 for 2 weeks.
>>1057009
The aforementioned plan is 1BD ($2.65)/week
>>1057009
Do you know of prices in other countries?
