While the seed of corruption sets in, her lack of options on this doomed planet is what compels her to finally face the gems. Since Steven's not there on the moon with her, she relays their story at a distance to Steven when she catches him alone in the night one day.
After being startled, she quickly asks about other methods of contacting YD; and when Steven says there are none, her form begins to flicker more noticibly. And when the moonlight reflects on her face just right, he sees the nasty crack on Jasper's gem.
She may want hurt him, his planet, and his friends- but she's scared (though she'd never admit it) and alone and suffering right now. He then broaches a truce.

I think Malachite was able to finally reveal herself a bit during this fight. Jasper and Lapis finally AGREED on something and had a mutual goal- Jasper asked Lapis is she wants to "have some fun" and fuck up the CGs. Malachite then had the time of her miserable life. And what an amazing force she was, utilizing her tools with suprising adeptness.
While I don't doubt there's a side that could open up and have some fun, I primarily see her as being a largely fierce fusion even when reformed under better circumstances. I love this user's write up on reformed Malachite:

The malachite stone is about transformation and is the "mirror of the soul"; though some people bring up the fact that the stone is toxic they forget many other stones are too, including turquoise and azurite as these all contain copper. What other reason is there for Crewniverse to have chosen malachite as their fusion stone?
As someone said last thread on why she'd change instead of look the same:

at this point, i'm kinda convinced that when matt/ian said the episode titles were out of order, the only thing really out order was the 3 parter not being the finale episodes.
this is, of course, assuming that the 22 leaked episode titles we have are the next 22 episodes airing, regardless of order. if there are unannounced titles (like how "too far" and the stevenbomb 4 titles were revealed after the cn leak), than anything could be out of order ("last one out of beach city" in particular sounds finale-worthy)
