What I mean is I think it's retarded that an artist has to completely know a character before they're "comfortable" drawing them with a fetish in mind and he's not the only artist to say that which irks me to no end. Why would someone need to know a character inside and out in order to take a reference of them and make it thicker?
In fact, that pic you posted could serve as a counterargument. Astro didn't know squat about Poppy or Aeris, but that didn't stop him from drawing them fat. Anons gave him a brief summary and he was like sure I can draw her.
