Well that pretty much sums her up.
The more you go into it, the more Pyrrah's story is pretty fucking tragic.
She's the most talented person in her city, easily kicks there assess and is a hero from the moment she even starts life.
So she tries to move away from it all and go to Beacon, where only one person treats her as a human, and even then he just doesn't get romance or any of her advances.
THEN she's drawn back into that inevitable 'hero' destiny, and is given a great opportunity to maybe die for the greater good like everyone expects her too.
And she fails. She straight fails. And she can't take it. So she pushes Jaune, her chance for a happy life, out into a locker and tries one last time to be the hero.
Then, as if mocking her, she is killed on the greatest pedestal ever, whilst her killer confirms that yes, it was her destiny to die here, the destiny she was constantly tormented with all her life, to be a hero.

Which really doesn't make the reaction of brutalizing her make any more sense.
The message that was supposed to be imparted is that the grimm are dangerous because they are so numerous that no matter what happens eventually they will overwhelm everything but in practice all it demonstrated was that if you pile on enough of something on a solitary figure just moving forward numbers will eventually win.
It was a lesson of negative consequences that didn't go really anywhere in terms of actually teaching why the grimm are dangerous to anyone aside from idiots. There are probably some morons in the crowd who are thinking that they could avoid such a fate if they just didn't stand there and take it. Which also trivializes the grimm.
And then there is the act of brutalization itself which to the degree it's done is a pretty stupid teaching method that makes Glynda look like a violent idiot.

Remember, this entire show is heavily inspired by (And in some cases, blatantly stolen from) Final Fantasy.
Most Final Fantasy titles start off making you think there's little or no magic at all, but by the end of the game there's crazy magic all over the place.
The maiden's are literally just the sorceresses from FFVIII. From how their magic is transfered to how the cycle started in the first place.
The sorceress stuff is what turned FFVIII from "Teenage mercenaries in a grounded low magic setting" to "Holy fuck magic is going to kill us all".
How many final fantasy games start off with a simple concept like a military academy, a group of eco-terrorists, or a group of thieves kidnapping a princess?
A lot of them.
And by the end of the game, you're fighting some psycho with god powers, a giant planet buster dragon, or some crazy wizard bitch that wants to compress time itself into a single moment.
And just like Edea in FFVIII, Cinder Fall was the catalyst to let the audiance know: "The power level creep just took a massive jump forward".

Pyrrha was disintegrated by magic that we know nothing about yet, and she wasn't even turned into traditional ashes.
She was turned into magical sparkle dust ashes, not the greyish-white ashes she was supposed to be turned into originally.
It feels like Monty was dead set on Pyrrha dying and staying dead, while Miles and Kerry liked the character and wanted to keep her around longer (Notice that neither of them talk too much about Pyrrha's death, but have no trouble talking about Penny and Roman).
With Monty gone, her execution method was altered so that, if they decide to, they could bring her back later. The only reason they probably went through with her death as soon as they did is because the season was already started and assets partially done before Monty died.
If Monty was still alive, you can bet your ass she would have gotten legitimately ashed, and not Disneysintegrated.
Now they can use the "It's magic/A wizard did it, I ain't gotta explain shit" excuse if they want to bring her back.

In the early hours after shane posted his letter, the shitstorm on social media was pretty slanted against RT. Then as folks reread what shane was saying in light of what Volume 3 managed to do, they realized he was emotionally compromised by Monty's death to the point he couldn't really function there.
Still though, the first couple of hours tumblr/reddit/RT forums were a pretty nasty place if you're an RT community person.
