Volume 4 will probably be dark as well, but in a different way. Instead of chaos and death, it will be about angst, depression, sorrow, how to find new purpose in life, how to overcome the deaths of your friends. Expect plenty of Jaune angst, and probably Ruby too. Yang needs to overcome her depression and get out of bed.
But I don't think there will only be dark stuff. There should be some comedy and lighthearted stuff too. It's important to have a balance. Having too much dark elements can eventually get boring.
I also think volume 4 will not have much fighting.

Having looked up some of the fights from the show and these gif, yeah kind of.
This show seems to suffer from the same issues that a lot of anime suffer from in that, they don't really know how to make an even fight interesting, it takes a shitload of time to cover distance and that whenever one side is supposed to gain the advantage, the other goes full retard.
