My point was you could do it in a way that makes it a mainstream attraction. Drop the animal characters (or leave them in but give it a fucked up Gorey-esque animation style), get some good VAs, and trim the fat a little. Focus more on the monsters and horrors and less on the puzzles. It could go gangbusters; just make it a little bit SAW 1 and a little bit Cabin in the Woods and you're flying high.
Hell you could even go found-footage with it and film it all from the security cameras or whatever.

It's all about persistence and finding your muse. What inspires you? I listen to music. Epic scores or something like "Two Steps from Hell" that give me ideas based on sounds and images.
