So today since I'm on holiday I decided to sift through my "box of shame" aka my toy box of g1 figures from when I was an evil destructive child, what a mess.
But I decided to post a few older toys that made me think, I forgot his name but one interesting note, DESPITE how simple the transformation is-

All they do is hide the shins when folding the legs so he can roll flat...they didn't even need to have those flaps, I'm quite amazed since only mp's and some larger figures get folding covers now

The cannon on Hardhead is removable and has a little compartment for TMs. It's also a color that isn't used elsewhere on Hardhead so it's on a separate sprue from everything else, which means a Stalker retool could simply be swapping out the shoulder cannon accessory and giving him a new headmaster.

Not many of these guys are intact, some had legs missing and the balljoints are made of diecast so they're floppy as fuck, and some ballpegs have snapped forever ruining them (shame too, I had a nearly cartoon accurate g1 bumblebee with that issue)
Not bad, they could update these and just carry over the marvel legends repaint and redeco system, and of course add elbows

Nah, Highbrow's legs compress Aerialbot style. Triggerhappy's legs only fold the knees all the way. Highbrow doesn't even have the folding parts on the sides of Trig's torso where his arms are connected.

Now for some g2 minibots.
They held up "ok" for all they endured with just some scratching and chrome wear.
Shame the chrome is only a single color, beachcomber has metallic injected plastic for his green chest, but otherwise standard colors on them including seaspray (some gold chrome would of been amazing).
Also, guess what, bumblebee and cliffjumper's RUBBER TIRES are still holding, makes me wonder how optibotimus's mp-10's tires rotted away yet these sitting in a toybox under a skylight in the coldest place in the house survived...wait maybe the cold part was the reason?

There are exceptions, but its still just a retool, not a whole new toy, just a retool, heck even UW computron is nothing but a mass of retools (while they're objectively better than hasbro's especially scattershot they're still retools).
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind retools, or redeco's since I collect seekers, but they still cost cut as much as hasbro, the fact they're using an existing base mold gives them more budget to allow for these retools and paint is how, still the same overall toy and because they used legends magnus as the base of course he was gonna be an awesome toy.

I wasn't trying to be bitchy, it was just cool to discover that Highbrow and Scourge were related, and I wanted to let other people know as well.
I love the retool stuff. It's very interesting to see how HasTak toys that are intended to become two (or more) very different-looking things. I have never really understood why some people look down on it, or think less of a toy just because it shares engineering with another one.

I think that's exactly why HasTak has been doing it a lot these days. They no longer have the resources to make a lot of one-use molds, so they design toys with alternate uses in mind. The necessity in Combiner Wars for each standard toy to have four modes gave them the push to really experiment with extensive retooling, and now they've made it so that most of the Deluxes will probably be able to stand apart from their retools (except Brainstorm I guess?).

Speaking of combiners, whilst I'm sticking to my guns over combiners that have good Turd offerings (case in point I'm going Maketoys for Defensor) I'm still tempted by some of the crazier combiners like Grand Galvatron, and as such I'm considering giving HasTak a second chance. The problem is I really, REALLY hate the stock feet (they work OK as hands though) and whilst I gave the Nonnef feet a go I have a feeling they were at least partially responsible for the cracked ports on my Defensor (though that doesn't explain Groove who cracked even though I only ever used him as an arm with the standard HFG). Are there any reports of the Perfect Effect feet causing problems?

At this point they'd probably just label them Titanmasters. Lets face it, it's an easier gimmick to do and can make transformations easier to design, VS trying to design every 'bot around fitting a smaller bot somewhere inside of them fully.

Seriously though, imagine the possibilities. You'd have Legions and Commanders (AKA standard Legends) as per normal, and for the "main" price points you'd have vehicles, playsets and the like.
>Deluxe class = "Scout vehicle" with Legion figure. So a small drill tank, gun platform etc.
>Voyager class = "Mega vehicle"/"Outpost" with Commander figure or two Legions. Bigger vehicles with some "transforming" element to them, whilst outposts would be small building playsets, like a "prison cell" or whatever.
>Leader class = "Ultra Vehicle"/"Fortress". Comes with two Commanders or four Legions. Ultra Vehicles are huge rolling bastions, landships and carriers or whatever with loads of gimmicks and some transforming element. Fortresses are big playsets like, well, fortresses, power plants etc.
All this would gel particularly well with 2017's Titan release- Trypticon, who could be cross-compatible with the playsets and vehicles.

It's not much to go off on but the way the comics are building up pretender tech and intending to use it for revolution, we might eventually see the Pretenders.
The only real problem that has though is that it's hard to design a transforming robot that fits in a shell. It seems like Hastak would try to achieve the concept like how they handled the Beast Hunters line (organic armor bits) or even Ultra Magnus/Ambus.
In truth I'd like to see the Breastforce gimmick again. Small robots become the stylistic armor or weapon of the larger bot. Something like RiD's doing right now with the Mini-con battle packs, but better.

I have Defensor, and attempting to rotate the thighs will only end up being blocked by the ladder structure. Besides, I kinda prefer Defensor/Victorion with thicker thighs for bigger bulk.
