For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Some Kotobukiya kits are cheaper than others, for example the 1/144 Muv-luv kits are priced closer to RGs. They're HG quality though, Bandai just has better prices thanks to economy of scale.
>>
>>5669307
Some of those Koto Frame Arms kit
not the FAG
are around the price of an RG or a cheaper MG.
Quality is almost RG like with prebuilt inner frame.
Worse part separation, poor articulation and no decals.
They does look cool though, have pretty great design and customisation options.
I currently only have the Magatsuki Houten and planning to get the Durga II.
>>
I don't do gunpla but I have a question I figured would be worth asking here.

I'm looking to paint a controller. I can't afford an airbrush, otherwise I'd go straight to that. I tried using a Testors spray can on one but I laid the paint on way too thick way too quickly and it turned out awful.

What my ignorant ass would like to know is if low pressure cans would help at all? I was looking some up and Montana Gold and MTN 94 looked like my best bets, particularly the 94 since it's easier and cheaper to get the colors I want.
>>
>>5669340
move the can back a little and spray in several coats.

Also best to get some urethane primer and use some sand paper to rough up the surface for mechanical adhesion
>>
>>5669346
I did do four coats, but I'm sure I did it too close. The paint looked wetter than it probably should have even after one coat.

I also did sand it down before priming, but I used an enamel primer instead of urethane. I did talk to another guy who's experienced with this kind of stuff and he also specifically mentioned urethane primer, is there that much difference between the two? I'm familiar with the differences between acrylic, enamel and lacquer paints now but not so much primers.
>>
>>5669355
polyeurethane is very hardy and tough, especially for a controller which will be handled pretty much non stop, you want something tough. What colour are you painting it in?

Another place which is better to ask is DIY
>>
>>5669361
I see, that makes sense. Looking at a sort of medium electric blue for the top and yellow for the bottom. And I forgot to think about asking them, thanks.

You must be new here. Although they have done it from time to time with some stuff like metal gear, they generally do not Restock
>>
>>5669449

Are the zoids models any good? I remember the liger from the show years ago, and though it might be neat to get one.
>>
>>5669462
No, the gap made to expose the topside of the sub knuckle on the Astaroth is already way too wide for Hyakuren's Knuckle Guards.

Remember, the gap in Hyakuren's side skirts are barely wider than the back of a hand.

Just about. As >>5670645 says, that's a better looking version of the design though I wonder how much of that is down to the colors.
I understand the design choices to make a Zaku III but it just feels lazy and pretty poorly done.
>>
>>5670384
The Green one is the Custom, grey is the standard Zaku III, casual
>>
>>5670372
personalised for a certain pilot.

custom colours, eg johnny raiden and black tri star custom zaku II high mobility has a different colour scheme to a regular high mobility zaku II.

could also be added shit, eg psychoframe, more arms or thrusters, eg char's zaku ii which is three times faster than a regular zaku ii. or has different trimmings like dozle's or garma's zaku II.

you know what 'custom' means, right?
>>
>>5670725
I wonder what paint they used.

>The pilot wants a custom color. Order 10 thousand bottles of char red from Mr hobby.
>>
>>5670664
Tfw like the zaku 3 custom better then the zaku II
Outside the f2000, of course.
I like bulkier suits, the zaku just doesn't do it for me.
>>
>>5670725
ya know back in the days, 'custom' was used so liberally all kits of the grunts from gw to gx had the word custom in it.
>>
>>5670824
jenice and daughtress 'custom' were customised versions of the old jenice and daughtress suits.

the custom in the endless waltz suits probably was just added to differentiate the ova and tv designs.

>>
>>5671466
It is an excellant first kit to test the waters of the hobby. To start off make sure you have a pair of proper cutters (NOT wire cutters or scissors, those just chew up and stress the plastic) and a hobby knife (Basic xacto knife is what most people seem to have) for removing nubs. Maybe some high grit sand paper as well.

Give the guide in the OP a read.

>>
>>5671519
Usually I build the whole once, and prepare the parts I'm later going to seam weld by making them easier to disassemble. It's much harder to forget something that way
>>
>>5671526
That's turning "fun hobby" into "chore list" to me.
>>
>>5671530
To each their own, I build gunpla to busy my hands while watching something else or reading for uni. But straight builds seems kinda like wasted money when you can easily complete them under two hours.
>>
>>5671538
Two hours of entertainment for 15 bucks isn't too bad.

I see what you're saying, though. I mostly just build as something to do. If I was really dying for a Shining that was all gussied up and nice, I'd go for the RD.
>>
>>5671519
You can apply extra thin cement after putting parts together. It'll seep in just enough that you can push the parts together and create a bond.
>>
>>5671546
Wouldn't that run the risk of it oozing into panel lines and fucking everything up?
>>
>>5671549
It's thin so no. Just let it dry completely. If you mean the melted plastic from when you cement two parts together, then that happens no matter what. Just clean it with a scriber.

Well, do what you want. But sealing seams can really make a kit shine.

I would honestly say use gold or silver as the frame color, and then paint some small bits of the armor here and there with the other. Red would be fine as the primary color.

Hell, you could even do a red frame, and then go the other way with it if you wanted.
>>
>>5672131

So I'm pretty new to painting, and I noticed that after painting and putting my kits back together, the joints are noticeably more loose than they were before. What's up with that?

>>
>>5672244

>>
>>5672265
Well, for example, I've spray painted three HGUC GMs for practice, and after painting, all three have the leg strength of a small paraplegic girl. None can stay up without the knee joints bending completely or something. The Graze Ritter one is practically the same as the R-Gyagya. You should totes put that on there with the Gold color.

I was leery of the MSS line cause they looked so unimpressive next to their HMM brethren, but I got one in the last HLJ sale on a whim and...I gotta say, I'm sorta impressed. The prepainted and decaled parts are really nice, and there is a surprising amount of complexity to the builds given how small they are. Which brings me to the size. These things are SO TINY.

I did not expect something this damn small to come out of a box the size of a standard HG Gundam's. I guess that's the price you pay for a high parts count, even if said parts are tiny as fuck.
>>
>>5672926
Also an interesting tidbit: I did a rough count after building cause I was curious, and this tiny little thing has like 70+ individual pieces in it. Not bad for something only slightly taller than a fucking Megabloks minifig.

Just keep an eye out for those monthly reissue lists from koto, I am sure you will see blade liger eventually on there, the Zoe on the other hand, keep waiting or just give up on them.

I think the fag kits immense popularity are really helping koto rethink their previous stances on reissue kits in general considering the number that have been reissued in the past year.

Out the window, the trunking is hidden away behind the desk tidies when not in use.

>>5673164

It is, yes. Just hidden at the moment. Though I don't always use it. If I'm spraying something like Vallejo MA I'll use it just to remove the particulate matter (with a respirator at the same time of course) and just vent in to the room.

If, though, I were spraying something like Tamiya or Mr Color which I would use a lacquer thinner it's full DEFCON one time and all efforts are made to vent the fumes as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Anons I have a question that I haven't really found a clear answer to that I'm hoping you can answer for me.

In most guides people recommend applying a clear coat over the paint before applying decals/pannel lining. Is this a gloss or a mat coat?
>>
>>5673788
Gloss. Gloss is smooth, matte is "rough" for lack of a better term.
>>
>>5673791
You're the man Gelgoog! Now that you explain it that is actually kind of obvious isn't it?

So if you finish with a mat top coat it won't come out glossy anyway because the top coat breaks the light again?

Nope, if you're gloss coat is super glossy you might need to do more passes with the matte coat, but it should work fine.

Hey guys, im gonna start buying and collecting gunplas, got really hooked and hyped about Thunderbolt and i feel like their recent Thunderbolt releases are the perfect excuse for me to start in the beautiful word of plastic crack.

I read the guides and have just some tiny questions.

Are the official gundam markers worth buying? or should i look for something else.

Is it hard to adquire Gundam Wing models? any grade will do.

I started like 12 years ago when i was like 12 with Gundam Wing, so i would love to have most of them yet im clueless if re-releases exist or they are just gonna be hard to track and get.
>>
>>5675558
Any Dutchanons around that know what Future is called in the Netherlands now? I know the brand is Pledge here, but I read somewhere that the original Future formula isn't available anymore. I'm hoping someone knows if this is true and if not what kind of Pledge I should be looking for.
>>
>>5675558
I have the markers, I'm sure most do, they're fine.
Well, there's a few type of grades of Wing
Older 1/100 and 1/144 which is a bit more rare(hlj has 1/100 serpent, nataku and heavyarms custom on restock), and newer HGAC Wing and Wing Zero(TV), there's also Real Grade Wing Zero Custom, and Wing Gundam EW.
There is a perfect grade WZC, but it's old as fuck and was a pain to build for me.
Master grades though(1/100), there's the full crew, with Epyon and Tallgeese too. They're all Endless Waltz versions, except for a TV Wing.
Dalong.net is a good way to check which kits there are, but he doesn't have the older HGs.
They shouldn't be too hard to get, HLJ at least, has some of the MGs in from time to time, the HGAC and RG should be easier
>>
>>5675581

Man you are fucking awesome, i was expecting someone to just point me in a general direction about the models avaliabity but you seriously helped me out here. Gonna get as much Sandrocks and Talgeeses as i can.

Keep in mind that the old models are pretty crappy and require a decent amount of seam fixing and painting just to look "okay".
>>
>>5675546
You can finally be free anon! don't fall the slippery slope again be an example for all of us!
>>
>>5675583
Be sure to check around on a lot of different sites and you'll be sure to find something.
And like >>5675589 said, old models needs more work. But there's some charm in it, too Iguess.
Have fun.

>>5675580
In the Netherlands it is known as "Pronto Wax for wooden floors" with a brown cap or "Parket Plus"

AFAIK the label only changed in the US
>>
>>5675619
no but i actually do need to get one more kit at least to round out my lead gundam collection

after the new force impulse i'll be free.
>>
>>5675589
>>5675626

mmmh, so i wasnt a fucking idiot back in the gundam days, i followed everything on the manual and my HG sandrock looked like a cheap bootleg toy, was really bummed out and never touched a model kit until now.

By the looks of it, Bandai has really stepped up his game from 12 years ago
>>
>>5675645
meant Gundam Wing days.
>>
>>5675628
Thanks anon! And that is still the same stuff? I heared someone mention that the Wax for wooden floors has a more yellowish tint to it instead of clear. I'd like to make sure it's the good stuff before I spray it on my kits

A comparison between HG and RG
>>
>>5675684
is it just me or do the rifle and leg thrusters look... off on the rg?
>>
>>5675681
It is, on some countries the stuff is orange but dries clear so no problem, but as usual you should use some in scrap plastic first to make sure the product is not spoiled or just shitty overall.

use this for future (no pun intended) references

>>
>>5675693
The rifle does have a different design to it. Not as "sleek: looking.

Leg thrusters look to be a little further out than on the HG. Probably adjustable though for posing.
>>
>>5675684
Sure the RG looks great, but I'm still surprised by how good the HG looks.
>>
>>5675700
Yeah the HG was a good model to start with, and one of the few pre-all gundam project HG to actually use 100% of the pc runner which amazed me.
>>
>>5675537
What kit is this? Where can I look at it longingly and not buy it?

The older Wing Plamo are pretty shitty and require lots of work and paint to look good. The recent master grades are all nice, though.

The only Gundam Marker I have is one of the fine point ones for panel lining, You're probably better off just getting regular model paints, from what I've heard.
>>
>>5675693
>>5675696
I think the attached grenade launcher is messing with the beam rifle comparison a little bit, but the rear stick-stock part looks a bit thinner on the RG. Leg thrusters also don't have a gap for the outmost leg vents, so they sit a bit farther to keep those vents exposed.
>>
>>5675684

where is the fucking two-tone color separation bandai

theyve been going downhill with this since the 00
>>
Look what you made me do /toy/!

I finally decided to get back to this great hobbie after quite some time and i will try to get all the Thunderbolt vers. Then probably will jump to RG and BIOs before some MG.

Time to cut and cut and cut some more.

Hey all, I'm the anon from >>5671466
I just finished today and boy was that fun! Pic is boring because I've not yet tried posing, but I have a few questions:
1) Why did the model's eye piece come transparent if I just put a sticker over it?
2) The instructions had me place some silver reflective stickers right behind the eyes, which makes no sense to me. Is it in case you don't put the eye decal on and you use the trans eyes?
3) I had a really hard time putting stickers in, two were extremely small and I lost one and had to cut another out of the sheet, and the other ended up slightly crooked, do you have any tips? I tried using a toothpick but it didn't help too much.
4) After I find the optimal pose for displaying, how should I hold on to the rest of the hands and weapons?
>>
>>5676212
>using stickers

lol
>>
>>5676212
1) you can do whatever the hell you want with it, paint it or just use the sticker if you don't like paint.
2) if you don't use the front eye stickers the reflective one shines through the clear parts, but you'll need to paint the black outlines
3) stickers are shit and always will be
4) Do you intend to keep it in one pose forever?

Also trim the safety nubs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7GeC5ZdRkY
>>
>>5676212
Is this a new way of trolling?
>>
>>5676232
If I intended to not play with it why would I need to keep the rest of the pieces? I just want to know what other people do with their extra parts when not using them.

But okay next time I'll see what I can do about painting instead of using the decals or whatever. I'll also probably pick up some lining pens if I'm buying more stuff for making them, but I know I'll get them soon if I'm going to be serious.

Thanks for the video too, I didn't even realize that it wasn't supposed to look like that.
>>
>>5676249
I keep them on my shelf in a pile, but i only have a few extra hands, having only 5 kits, but a small plastic container would work pretty well for keeping things safe
>>
>>5676249
Well I'd just say use your own judgement, don't throw away parts if you'll regret it later own, and you might find a use for them if you ever do customs, but if you don't want to hoard don't do it. I just keep them in little bags for each kit and store them away.

Yea a lot of people don't realize, I didn't for a while. I like to tell people whenever I can because there's nothing worse than someone doing a nice, fully painted kit but sill have nubs on the v-fin. Do be careful though, there's nothing more painful than breaking a v-fin
>>
This thread made me finally buy some organizers and clean up my building station.
>>
>>5675645
Yep, those 1/144 kits back in the 90s were mostly crap and need a lot of love to look good. And the 1/100 HG weren't better.

The MG are much much MUCH better, even if they are the Katoki redesigns and not the original designs, although you can still get the wing gundam TV version in MG form.
>>
>>5676347

Good for you, mang.
>>
>>5675960
Damn, that Barbatos is pretty awesome.

So what were they doing, having a "Make Super Fumina not awful" build off?
>>
New thread: >>5676384
>>
>>5676212

Zip-lock bags and a Sharpie are your friends for keeping parts stored away. You can also use compartmentalised plastic containers, depending on how you want to store things.

Use a hobby knife or thing tweezers to help apply stickers or, better yet, use paint instead of stickers.

If you're going to use paint, I recommend washing your model kit with warm, soapy water before you even assemble it. I always do this before every build now and it helps in the long run because then you don't have to worry about mould release grease and therefore primer (though you'll still need primer sometimes, such as painting over with a very different colour).

If you just want to do simple painting, such as the eyes, you could try some Gundam markers since they're quite cheap, or use a toothpick (or fine paintbrush) and some small paint pots (acrylic should be more than enough for you at this point).
