>>
>>5643873
It always perplexes me why trigun got revoltechs whereas bebop didn't get anything new. Or why friggin Roger Smith got a figma, wasn't Big O supposed to be really unpopular over in Japan, let alone many years later?

And besides, the point of the thread isn't so much who deserves a figure to be made now, but who is popular yet somehow DOESN'T have anything decent. So why didn't anything decent come out for Bebop during it's heyday? Point stands irregardless
>>
>>5645690
Trigun got revoltechs because it was a popular manga for 10+ years and was still running or had just ended when the revoltechs were made, can't quite remember. Bebop doesn't have anything decent because shit you'd consider decent didn't exist when it was popular. Roger Smith getting a figma is a mystery though.
>>
>>5643873
Some people seem to forget that most series are quickly forgotten in japan, regardless of how good they are. Only anime that pander to Otaku have any staying power amongst the nips, hence why Cowboy Bebop isn't popular over there and why Eva still is (which is pretty ironic considering Anno was thrashing them in that show.)

Of course there are exceptions. For example, Getter Robo still manages to get a few releases despite Gundam's corporate takeover of the mecha genre, but that's because it was both around long enough and unique enough to carve it's own niche in the mecha fanbase.

There're multiple factors at work, but at the end of the day the biggest question is whether it panders to the disgusting wastes of oxygen living off of welfare in some musky basements in southeast asia. And sadly, a lot of good series like Bebop fail to meet that status quo.

>>5643501
Gally has a figure. she is a proto-Shinki, and pretty good. Even better, she is only sold with a massive book, so Yahoo Japan will ship her outside of Japan!

>>5642838
I would expect ZERO 80's sci fi shows to get figures, now. those old shows were the antithesis of what's popular in anime, these days. a show that is raunchy, cynical, and has something to say about the state of the world besides "Too much school is turning japanese children into robots!" has no place in today's anime market.
>>
>>5642044
huh... I bet there is a Space Jam figure out there, somewhere... that probably isn't worth the cost... still

>>
>>5645690
>>5645710
trigun revoltechs were because of a movie that came out around that time
also, as a little tidbit: the mangaka is the creator of the revoltech joints.
figma roger and dorothy were made along with the max gokin big o, and all of these were made because the blurays were released at the time
sometimes stuff gets released to go along or to promote another main material, be new anime or movie, or a bluray release.

who cares, because a lot of the evangelion figures were pretty well sculpted and painted. They at least get the style right as do many other moeshit and waifucrap, yet they make a GitS figure? Generic style, made by their C-team. Same shit happened with Casca from Berserk. They become basically background grade characters made into a toy wearing main character clothes.

>>5645717
From what I've read and heard, they actually make more money in the US from selling their goods, yet creators and companies over there don't want to make stuff for the US because they'll lose "cred" with fans over there.

Both revo and figma have their issues, either being >rebuild or with poor articulation

If you mean statues Motoko has a ton of very good statues. And again the Yamaha figure both has decent articulation and got her style right. (despite her hips being a bit off)
>>
>>5646427
>yamaha
erp I meant yamato
>>
>>5645710

Pretty much this. Articulated figures didn't really catch on with the figure collecting otaku until figma's Haruhi stuff. Before that, character merchandise was mainly trading figures, scales and gashapon, and bebop got a good share of those.

Trigun had such an expansive line only because of Nightow's involvement with Kaiyodo.

Roger got a figma because of gaijin interest in Dorothy. Her preorder was shit in Japan but healthy overseas. I suspect that's why they moved Roger from a regular release to a wonfes exclusive. It allowed them to do a smaller run and cut out retailers.

>it's been 8 years since the first one
Why? It was such a shit movie too, even the people who were all over the cgi are starting to admit that now.

there are several mediocre Bugs toys, almost all of them have terrible articulation/look nothing like him or are statueshit. which is about as good as you can expect I guess.

I am just as baffled. I fully expect the reason the plot was so cookie cutter was because the whole movie existed solely to test out filmmaker techniques and new technology he could use for the Alita film he kept gushing over for years.

There are the dolls I guess. One's on ebay right now.

>Articulated figures didn't really catch on with the figure collecting otaku until figma's Haruhi stuff. Before that, character merchandise was mainly trading figures, scales and gashapon
WAT?
There were a lot of articulated lines before Revoltech/Figma/Figuarts was started. They just didn't start to brand it until Revoltech became popular (before Figmas). Nevermind that a lot of western lines were popular in Japan, like McFarlane's stuff (which inspired Kaiyodo into creating their own super detailed articulated lines)

>Roger got a figma because of gaijin interest in Dorothy. Her preorder was shit in Japan but healthy overseas.
Other way around. Western interest was in Roger and in order to drum up sales/interest was by releasing Dorothy first, because they always cater to Japan before anyone else.

As i said, who cares about the articulation, because who wants a mediocre looking figure if it's going to look mediocre in every single pose?
Sculpt/style matters most, so i can deal with limited poseability as long as it looks good as the rest of the stuff they're able to sculpt accurately.
Just like these amazing figures.

Speaking of a character that needs a figure.

>There were a lot of articulated lines before Revoltech
His point is those lines weren't considered primo merchandise by anime otaku back then.

The mold for him probably must've gotten lost somewhere.

They were though.
It's why they kept being made and what started the Revoltech and other brand lines.

The only reason you notice them more often now is because they're under a brand name, instead of as 324098234098342 different titles and names.
Pretty smart marketing.

Man, these were some of the better articulated figures back in the day. Before this, it was just statues and figurines for collectors

The popularity of those articulated figures, and others, are what lead to the creation of Play Arts, Revoltech, figma, etc.

Do you see any better-quality figures of ANY version of Astro Boy out there?

On top of that it's one of Hot Toys' earlier figures, and even though the aftermarket for them is pretty much dead due to Marvel and Star Wars oversaturation, their early stuff was made in much smaller batches and demand often exceeds supply accordingly for unusual figures like this.
