>ITT: The last thing you spent an obscene amount of money on
$100NZ
>>5619587
Why?
Seriously why? Were you actively trying to be ripped off?
>>5619598
It was the cheapest way to get it complete and I have a Titanic obsession at the moment. Also the damaged card corner will make me feel less guilty about taking it off the sealed card.
Last toy I spent over 100 on is my shiny new king ghidorah from January
Nearly £100 for this bitch. Latest "big purchase" though was £112 for a Revoltech Annelotte and Aldora with artbooks.
>>5619587
dropped $300 on this bastard
>>5619631
>mfw I saw a used one go for £83 last week
>>5619649
Sofubi bro - I recently dropped a similar amount on this guy.
>>5619687
i didn't even get the Mako. I wonder what the Satsuki head looks like on the new Motoko body.
>>5619705
I love it
Finally sold enough shit to afford this guy. $430. Should be here tomorrow.
>>5620937
Sofubi are hand-made, extremely limited run Japanese soft vinyl toys. Most of the time, they only are sold at conventions or on drop days where sell out quickly. The aftermarket is often the only way to get them outside Japan, and they go for ridiculous amount on the aftermarket.
>>5621525
Why though? They seem extremely not worth it at all.
They're not impressively or artistically designed at all and most of them just have an ugly mesh of colours throughout them. What's the appeal beyond being able to say "I have something that's super rare!"?
>>5621564
>They're not impressively or artistically designed at all and most of them just have an ugly mesh of colours throughout them.
That's where we disagree. I think the exact opposite.
>>5621564
play with you, you have to literally touch it and play with it to understand. its as smooth as a dolphin and as light as a small book
>>5621568
play with one*
>>5621564
they really aren't worth it, I literally can go to any toy store and buy vinyl toys of equal quality for maybe 20$. it takes a real mental spin on the subject to justify spending anything over 50$ on them.
I should start making bootlegs of them and just rake in the dosh as people convince themselves my 'exclusive, limited run of japanese imports' is worth way more than the cost to produce, store, ship, advertise and pay off royalties and still walk away with more profits than the Islamic religion.
>>5621599
>it takes a real mental spin on the subject to justify spending anything over (insert amount here)
You could say that about literally everything that gets discussed on this board.
>>5621605
yes, but that doesn't change the fact spending over 10 times the cost on a product is incredibly stupid, no matter what it is.
>>5621612
If you want something, you'll pay what the market demands. Value and cost is relative; I have enough disposable income that I can justify (to myself and family) what I spend on my hobbies.
>>5621612
And we're not talking about paying 10 times the original price. The RxH I posted originally went for around $100 at DCon.
ITT: Retards who spend x500 times the value of japanise sotf vynil shit
Wow those are some bad Kaiju. The colors, the molding, the 4 points of articulation...for that price they couldn't even make a fucking box? They give you a BAG and card?
Kidrobot doesn't even seem that big of a ripoff listening to you guys.
>>5621564
It's hipster shit, plain and simple.
>>5621739
kid robot is shitty chinese vinyl that isnt smotth and gloss like a tranny's penis XD
I've been wanting to start a sofubi kaijuu collection, and I realize there's a market for retro-style ones but honesty >>5619649 looks like a bad chinese bootleg and it's absolutely laughable that people pay those prices.
>>5619705 at least looks passable, but again the asking price is asinine. That other anon obviously meant the things don't cost that much to make but are being sold at insane margins of profit, something like 1000%
Part of the appeal is clearly nostalgia, the bag & tag packaging ties into that, but apparently for some makers that also means making them look as shit as possible. They seem to have missed the memo that figure production has evolved and that the companies that put out inaccurate sculpts and paintjobs back then got better with time, nowadays sofubi can look as good as any other plastic figure.
tl;dr it's okay to like indie/retro vinyls just don't pay those aftermarket prices jeesus. There's branded stuff that's more worth it
I don't know, the most expansive thing I got the past 6 month are the MP SS and MP SW for around $120 with the runner of Hi-metal Vf-1s at $100.
Is that a lot? I think it is
>>5619732
Probably bad, Satsuki's head is big and kinda long on anyone elses body.
>>5619899
he's fucking dope, enjoy
This fucker
>240$
Fuck me and my Sentai obsession.
>>5619587
ayyyy
sup bro
>>5619587
Had that one way back. Probably still in the attic somewhere.
>>5619587
$150 USD at a convention.
Totally fucking worth it, though.
>>5619649
>dropped $300 on this bastard
Wow.
this is very sad.
A literal example of nowadays trash-hipster bullshit culture of cancerous vinyl culture.
>>5619649
For these types of figures, do you play with them or just keep them sealed in the packaging?
> you could buy two of >>5623380
> for the price of >>5619649
>>5623308
top tier taste, good job bro!
I dropped more then $100 each on the Golgo 13 figma and the Berserk Armor Guts figma.
>tfw the detachable gun broke 4 minutes after opening him.
