The sad thing is that they coud've just done a Cheetor/Tigatron head and used it for Ravage anyway. Shadow panther/Tripredacus agent are both considered Ravage, and both are Cheetor repaints. Instead they tried cramming this head in.

So how often are themed Botcon years?
Like I know there was an Animated one, and this one is full of Beast Wars homages. Wondering if there will later more UT character homages. Off the top of my head, I remember there being ones based on the toy-only Cannonball, just barely managed to poke his head into the comics Skywarp and a SG guy that was pretty much Side Swipe but with different logo.
Kind of surprised they didn't make Red Alert and Crosswise based on the above.
>>
>>5594973
Themes are normally based on a line, or tv show (Animated, Machine Wars, Classics, etc..), with a few being their own thing like Knights/Pirates (which had Transformers that referenced many parts of the franchise)
>>
>>5594973
Every year Fun Pub ran it was a themed year, though sometimes the theme was more a concept than a specific line(like The Elite Guard, or Pirates vs. Knights). Before that the theme was mainly directly based on whatever contemporary line was out. We don't know what the next con organizers will do but it'll probably remain similar.

coulda just used the deadend/wildrider version of that mold without the lightbar... but hey, fuckpub right?
>>

Yeah, it's ridiculously convoluted. Just having them be the G1 trio getting upgraded would have been enough.
>>
>>5594995
It's like an endless circlejerk, they literally have to agree on who wins.
>>
>>5594998
>>5595002

IDW Reflector is loooooong dead though. One of the triplets died in a ship crash, the other two Wheelie exploded when he boobytrapped their getaway ship.
>>
>>5594998
>>5595002

The whole storyline is a collection of "why" decisions. Megatron, who was initially intended by 3H to be a TF Universe(post Best Machines) version of Megatron, is actually his FIRST form in this. Before his Botcon 2006 form, before his BW T.Rex form. same for Tigatron. They could've just done a "Return of Beast Wars" story, but nope.
>>
>>5595011
It's confusing. The events of Spotlight Wheelie happen way in the past, but due the nature of the ship the Reflector trio used, they technically died only 3 years ago in the comic.
>>
>>5595012
Considering this is the last Botcon, this storyline was probably intended for their Beast Wars Uprising story. They probably lost the license after most of the toy colors, and new head sculpts were done, so they were forced to use these guys as is.

Megatron using his TM 3 body may have made sense in whatever they planned for Uprising, but not here.
>>
>>5595019
They said this isn't BW Uprising. As stupid as that decision is.
>>
>>5595024
It isn't, that's what I'm saying. It was probably intended as an Uprising story, specially since they built up so much of that through out the last few years.
>>
I hope someone gets a hold of one of these new megatrons to cast and copy the head so we can just buy the old used bodies, slap it on and paint it. Fuck, for the money I'd be saving I would pay 30-ish bucks for an unpainted head if it meant I didn't have to pay 300+ for a 13 year old toy with red paint and a new head on it.
>>
>>5595024
They're bullshitting, it's really obvious this was meant for Uprising. Hasbro probably changed it after they took control of the convention.
>>
>>5595026
Why would they intend for it to be Uprising, then not do it? Hasbro wouldn't care either way.
>>
>>5595039
To tie it to something that's still relevant (IDW, which they've been pushing hard these last few years) than something that's tied to Funpubs fiction (which will no longer be relevant to them).
>>
>>5595031
That shit is not going to stay at $300. To get an idea, Botcon Scorponok, an equally demanded reuse of a mold in colors fans really wanted. With a Headmaster, too! It's averaging $100-$200.

Every year, people scramble to buy the exclusives they think are going to sell and, and here I am buying them at decent prices just by waiting a few months after.

>>5595041
That's retarded. IDW doesn't have anything still relevant to be tied to this story.
>>
>>5595043
This is true. Seems like fewer and fewer of the Botcon exclusives are going up in value like they used to. Probably because Fubpub shits out tons of the figures instead of just a few in limited numbers like they used to.
>>
>>5595047
They clearly did, since this apparently follows up on IDW Beast Wars fiction.
>>
>>5595050
I hope that's true with the Reflector set. I want them so bad, but for $60 for such small guys I'd like to wait for the price to go down.

>>
>>5595057

$60 for 3 Legends is a few bucks less than 3P prices. So it's...Sort of fair. Sort of. If you consider 3P prices to be fair.
>>
>>5595054

>>

>>
>>5595063
IDW, the company, is still relevant while Funpub are not.

In terms of fiction? Uprising is more relevant by far, but its better to use the fiction of the company you still have ties to, instead of the one you no longer work with.
>>
>>5595064

No one gives a shit about your supposed "scale of economics" Anon. Show me hard data on what 3P manufacturing costs really are and them maybe we'll take you seriously.
>>
>>5595067
Hasbro, nor IDW care about having official ties with a small run convention comic. I very much doubt it was their decision.
>>
Shame I never made it to BC. I've wanted to but, from what I've heard it wasn't what it used to be. Maybe I'll make it to TF con one day.

>>5595024
>>5595026
>>5595039
>>5595041
>>5595047

IDW's BW is more relevant in so much that it's tied into the actual Beast Wars show people care about, and not some bizarre AU like the uprising stuff that few people care about. Lets be clear, here, what they really should've done is a post Beast Machines, post-Universe story that attempts to make up for the failings of those and give us a decent Beast Wars sequel.
>>
>>5595080

Anything would be fine.

Even just the concept art.
>>
>>5595071
>supposed

You're retarded. You know this. Right? Anyone who knows anything about mass production know costs go up when you produce fewer units. With anything. Period. I don't need manufacturing costs from a third party to understand why their products don't sell for as low as mass produced products from a colossally larger company. Are all manufacturing costs equal? No. Do some companies charge more than others? Yeah. Companies decide how much to mark up to recoup from expenses, and make a profit. Some companies are more greedy than others and want to cash in a bigger payday. Capitalism.
>>
>>5595082
I understand what you're trying to say, but relevant isn't the word. And if IDW does revisit Beast Wars, if it comes to it they aren't going to reference a small run convention comic that not very many people read, for historic events or a new setting, they'll just do it again.

>>
I'm just excited to get that class Ratchet and work him into this.
>>
>>5595094
Honestly the whole connection is more incidental than anything. The IDW connection was a last minute announcement and it's just due to them deciding to stick the story in the "real" BW universe I mention, where Dawn of future Past and IDW were also crammed in, and even things like 3H(though that all gets largely undone which makes it moot), Universe, and even Dreamwave's G1. Naturally if you really look at it none of that makes sense and it's just because IDW in general is the current hotness as far as fiction goes(and really the only hotness, because no one is talking about RiD).
>>
>>5595106
Not to rain on your parade, but I don't really see the CW First Aid body, or that custom class head as a particularly good base for a season 3 MTMTE Ratchet. I suppose it's better than from scratch though.
>>
>>5595115
It's a Ratchet head, so close enough for me. If I was good at Photoshop, it's lay out the details I've already planned on painting.
>>
>>5595124
True enough. Although if the neck joint works, a TF Prime head would work for that Ratchet, given that Milne literally said it's inspired by that.
>>
>>5595062
True.

>>

ugh no. Anything MTMTE should be Classics scaled. And Megatron would be a Voyager, not a Leader. Magnus is quite a bit taller.
>>

I have a feeling IDW might become the focus of any third parties making classics-scale given that all the G1 stuff has more or less moved on to Masterpiece.

Hello, I am from the year 2000. I have been frozen for 16 years. I wonder how the new Botcon toys are like these days, if the convention is even still around. I mean, last I was conscious, we got this awesome Tigatron toy, with chrome detailing, plenty of paint apps, based on a widely requested Japan-only mold. Surely any toys these days must be a thousand times better than this!
>>
>>5595194
Go back to sleep, friend.
>>
>>5595185
I was told before the con that the dragon heads have zero paint apps, and a post on TFW confirms it. They're saying something about stickers for the eyes, that you have to buy separate, or something.

I'll keep reading.

>“Hasbro remains committed to providing fans with exciting experiences” around the Transformers brand, but does not specify if that means new conventions are to be held or if the “BotCon” name itself will make a comeback under new leadership. A stupid funpub BW fiction that has all the BW character as transformers that turn into vehicle, but keep their BW names.

It's the reason a few people believe this years botcon was meant to follow that fiction, since all the BW characters turn into vehicles, and have characteristics from their animal forms.

It's more like Autobots and Decepticons made Maximals and Decepticons to fight their war cause they were too old. There's no travel to Earth and lots of Maximals and Predacons are sick of fighting someone else's war. It's not just Cybertronian Beast Wars" since there's other dumb class shit going on.
>>
>>5595231
No because the Uprising universe doesn't take place in the same universe as the cartoon. Its a world where the Maximals and Predacns where created to fight wars for the autobots and Decepticons, but begin to rebel against them.

This is Pre-Bw. Well, actually it's pre-pre bW, since it takes place even before the dOFP story from Botcon 2006.
>>
>>5594867
the more I see this image, the more I think that Titans Return Galvatron would be so easily retooled/customed into this.
The nosecone becomes the tail, the canon is replaced by the blades, his feet become two dragon heads, the tank treads become his dragon claws, just attach wings to his back
>>
>>5595242
Megatron also has a sub-1,000 production run(850 pieces) so who knows. Its a smaller run than most recent exclusives.
>>
>>5595231
This contradicts Dawn of Futures past.

And the Uprising fiction is Maximals/Predacons playing in war games, acting as a proxy to the Autobots and Decepticon war.

Uprising was an alternate universe in which Humans achieved scary power level and kicked the asses of all Cybertronians, quarantining them on Cybertron.

Using Human technology, For Max created the Maximals and someone else created the Predacons. The Autobots and the Decepticons have their kids fight in bloody gladiatorial combat to sate their desire to continue the Great War.

The execution was pretty awful from the toy perspective but it's a very interesting concept and probably the best idea FunPub's had.

Man, that was practically My toy story with the original BW toys before I saw the cartoon. Only difference being it was bat Optimus as the leader of the Maximals and ape Optimus was G1 Optimus who went crazy after losing the Matrix and was the 'big bad'.

Yeah, but IDW Beast Wars is dogshit all the way through and Uprising ranges from decent (Broken Windshields, Micro-Aggressions) to fantastic (Alone Together, Head Games, Burning Bridges).
It's like an IDW G1 reboot for Beast Wars, which - to be honest - really needed it. BW is the only continuity "family" that has a piece of fiction regarded as sacred and unassailable; whenever Beast Wars characters show up in universes without the events of the cartoon you get a wave of fans insisting that they should've done new fiction designed to be in canon with the Beast Wars cartoon instead.
And really, when has any of that ever been good? Beast Wars just isn't a story that works with events happening just offscreen.

My point is that if you take off your nostalgia goggles, it's a design that went out of style over twenty years ago. Plus all that light blue more than hurts the eye if you look at it for too long. I'd much rather Hasbro either used the comics designs of the characters or invented new characters entirely.

Scourge though is a must have, blurr here is just a HOLY SHIT THATS MUCH BETTER kinda thing, one that got me to pre-order it.

>>5595865
What, you mean the deco?

Apart from computron they're pretty similar mold wise, we only have a few differences in molds, superion swaps slingshot for idw's alpha bravo who we never see again, hasbro gave us rook who is a fan fav despite simerlar shit as per alpha bravo, bruticus is quite subjective as some prefer the "new" blastoff, oh and offroad is...ok I guess.

Honestly, it can get quite subjective, takara/UW wins on deco and mold retooling for sheer g1 accuracy and production values, hasbro's only real win was defensor with rook, and if people don't like that we got deluxe groove to fix

Grow up. The design of every thing ever changes with the years in order to stay fresh and relevant. I understand iconic or vintage but Blurr is neither, and the major reason the majority of people buy toys is because they look cool. Not because it's that one guy from that one show.

I'm talking about Blurr in particular. Also the "regular robot design" itself has evolved over the years and isn't as boxy or ill proportion as it used to. Heck, that's noticable even in the same cartoon. Compare Blurr with Sunstreaker for example.
