Just paid off my Figuarts Kylo Ren. Here's to Christmas making sure it takes forever to get to me. He looks damn nice, I just wish the handguard blades were a bit longer, all the pics I've seen make them look a bit too short and stumpy compared to what they should be. After watching TFA and faling in love again with Star Wars, I think I want to start a Star Wars collection. There goes my wallet.
I'm trying to think of my best choices and what you guys might suggest. I collect 1/12 so would like to stick with that. Is the Figuarts line any good? I think I am really wanting to get the Kylo Ren figuarts, and the Riot Stormtrooper when it comes out...I'm really feeling a TFA set up. Hoping they come out with a Rey...

The Figuarts line is pretty good. Most of the SW stuff has been pretty nice, but there have been some outliers (Vader wasn't too great, and neither were the OT Storm Troopers.)
Unfortunately, with Figuarts being such a highly-regarded line, and with SW being such a highly-regarded franchise....the ship for getting a lot of the figures has kind of sailed. These are figures you have to preorder months in advance.
Kylo, Phasma, the FO Troopers...pretty much all of them have been out of stock immediately after they went up for Preorder.
They pop back in and out on occasion, but at this point, it isn't looking so great if you're just getting into it.
The riot Stormtrooper comes out in the spring, but it is a Web Exclusive in Japan, meaning that it won't be super easy to get ahold of either....hell, it may be already sold out too. And that's not even taking into account that it is basically a $55 figure.

If you have a problem with an artist doing things you think are bad, don't expect them to change.
It can take years and years for them to realize they have a problem, and even then, they might revert back to the same style as before.
In cases like this, it might just be another artist doing the same figure, which is why we see small headed figures still being made even though they fixed the issue here.

Yeah, I kinda gotta agree. To be fair, it's honestly one of the best Black Series I've seen in terms of using cloth. Unfortunately I can't get over how unrealistic it looks due to the way the larger scale cloth folds/bunches up and how much larger the threads/texture is than it should be. I think the only real problem with it is that the cloth is just too thick. It seems like cloth goods work best on 1/12th when the material is really really thin and light.
But all that being said I'm not going to deny that the plastic clothes of the figuarts are perfect so to each his own.

It has that shimmering effect as said athletic shorts, same as the real costume, so the texture isnt always out there, unlike the plastic.
As i said, i usually avoid cloth goods for figures because they look like shit most of the time. I'd normally choose plastic, but in this case, it just works.
Went with the figure arts over the black series. For the light saber and the different hands, the box looked nicer too imo.

Its really not though. The actual costume robes have a very thin material and only hang around to his ankles. The Black Series robe is thick and chunky and drags on the floor. It makes the figure look short and squat where Kylo is supposed to be tall, thin, and imposing. It also lacks the chainmail-esque weave of the actual robes, using horizontal notches cut into the flat fabric instead. It's in no way more accurate.

The material is thicker than your average dress and doesn't float like a bathrobe either.
It's obviously a dense cloth.
Just look at the way the cloth forms around the shoulders and how sturdy looking the hood is.
Most of my hoodies can not hold that shape, except for the ones tthat have insulation in there.
That material has a lot of weight and it's why the cloth on the Hasbro figure looks so good. The shimmer effect completes that movie look better than straight plastic does.
You're right that the cloth is too long, but that's minor to the overall look. It's not like he's going to look short and squat when he's standing next to the rest of your collection.

Guess there are some "bootleg" black series Mauls being sold on ebay. Seems they go for between 15-25 dollars. They're just made from the original mold and they look okay. I grabbed one for 15.99 to see how it is.
So I got all the black series first order characters for myself and I wanted to get Rey and Fin to go along but the face molds on them were shit. Is this a common thing with the black series stuff where if the character does not have a helmet the face is shit. Also black series TRAITOR when?

Vaders vault are WAY overpriced and have mediocre desings, unless you get a one-off limited time one. In that case, it will be even more expensive. We are talking $400-$1000 for most vaders vault blades with sound I believe.
I suggest Ultrasabers or Saberforge. Don't know much about making your own through custom saber shop.
The cheapest you can go with sound is a black series force fx. the light is dim and the sound is crap compared the others though.
