They just don't pose very well. Zero backwards hip articulation for example.

Not really, since he didn't make them. But the shoulder swivel is at an angle.
The articulation is meant more to get "girly" poses while hiding the joints. So I wouldn't say the articulation is bad, just not versatile.

The ones that are worth getting are the new movies Eva girls, and maybe Yoko from Gurren Lagann movie. They look nice ,have decent accessories, and you can get nice poses out of them.
One universal flaw is that you get a ugly break in the form at he ass when the legs go forwards more than 45 degrees.
