Pops aren't competing with figmas and other high quality toy companies. They're cheap fare to decorate a shelf or a desk. I personally think the artstyle is cute, and I like the variety they have. It's a nice way to get some figures from different franchises that don't have a lot of merchandise. (How many Iron Giant toys are being made today?) People who buy and collect them en masse are being dumb.
And don't tell me that a Kyubey figure wouldn't be the most disturbingly adorable thing ever.

I rather like how they ended up doing it; they probably won't be easily visible in person unless you remove the visor. I really like all of them except Pearl, who looks kind of strange, maybe just because her canon head and body shape are both the farthest from being Pop-shaped. It just looks so wrong that her head/hair is square in profile...

Huh. I actually think Amethyst looks the best, pretty much perfect. Garnet would be perfect if the visor wasn't clear, but I don't like it very much how they've done it. Pearl looks kind of weird not because of the head shape, but the weird gaping smile.

I saw one at an FYE in Ohio and it was so heavy, that when someone had knocked it over, its pointed nose pierced completely through the plastic display window. So apparently at my local hot topic, there are "special" buyers on a list that they have. They buy in huge quantities, probably to resell. As soon as the store gets any word that new exclusives will be coming, they call these buyers and ask how many they want put on hold.

The missus and I picked up a like six of the sci-fi series one fro $3 apiece at GameStop and the one series two they had. We each took two and gave two to our daughter.
I ended up with RoboCop and Judge Dredd, our daughter got Spock and E.T., and my wife got Spock, Predator, and (since she loved it so much) the Queen Alien from series two.
So when's the concrete release date for the ones they announced a few days ago? If you are collecting because you like them, I don't see the point of leaving them in the box. The whole point is that you take them out so you can look at them. You can't enjoy what it looks like if its in the box.
Maybe if you have heaps and you want to stack them somewhere keep them in the box, but I have mine on my desk or on shelves so I take them out and they look far better.
These things are hardly gonna be worth thousands in a few years time. Take them out and enjoy them. That's the whole point of buying them in the first place.

Someone recently gave me a Funko Pop as a gift, my first one, and having finally got my hands on one I find it pretty cool. Had no idea they were bobbleheads. Why does people shit on them? They're not meant to be statues or high quality action figures. If you just look at it as buying large bobbleheads of your favorite characters why is it such a bad thing? People have always bought bobbleheads and collected them.
I'm already looking at getting more.

Yeah, it's cause Hasbro's licensing rights prevent anyone from making anything that could be an "action figure" under legal jargon. LEGO can't even sell minifigures by themselves because it'd infringe on those rights. What they CAN do is sell packs of minifigures (or the single baggies) with a buildable piece, and then it becomes a "building set" under the law. Hence the loophole you mentioned.

In addition to Pokemon, they should really look at doing Star Wars Rebels pops. It's done pretty well with a wide array of demographics, and the upcoming movie will only boost interest in all forms of Star Wars memorabilia.

It's hard enough without this kind of madness involved. I was thinking that I liked a few of the WWE Mystery Minis and then discovered that Wal-Mart has exclusives in the form of Roddy Piper, Macho Man, and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. I really want the Macho Man and Piper, but none of the Wal-Marts here carry the WWE Mystery Minis (they have a ton of Age Of Ultron and Guardians Of The Galaxy ones shelfwarming) and they're going for like $50+ individually online.
