To start off, I weathered the helmet of my soldier. It was originally painted with lacquer metalizers and then coated with a black acrylic coat which I sanded off with fine grit sandpaper to achieve the chipped paint effect.

I'm honored to have my dude up there in the op, op. I thought Noir was okay, but I'm still having trouble with the hose.

Got any ideas Fakimus?
>>
>>4725669
I'd probably use rope. That was the original idea for me before I used a canister. Rope is loose enough to not restrict neck articulation, and probably can be dyed easily. You'd just have to drill into the filter and external canister.

>>4725669
>>4725955
To further elaborate, I'd recommend clothesline rope in particular: it's made out of a series of smaller intertwined pieces that have decent give and won't interfere with Noir's neck articulation in the way a soft PVC hose would. WW 1 had some gas masks that had hoses not very different to those on a firefighter's hose made out of thick cloth. You'd have to cut and quickly seal off the loose fibers with an adhesive but that should give you a good base to work with. Also, you can probably dye the hose with fabric pens as it would be more cost effective that way.

I didn't end up using it since the role was too large for an AP.

All of the bodies with like the green turtleneck shirts are from the Dollar General Gi Joe Shipwreck, as is the backpack with the hoses.

The gas masks are from Alley Vipers and the green harnesses with all the pockets are from Dollar General Snake Eyes.

The more soldier-y guys with the full face masks are Steel Brigade Delta figures.

The vehicles are both Power Team Elite things.

And then I painted them and added some cloth parts.

And thanks!

I think I've come up with a solution. I'm going to need a smooth shoelace of a 10mm( i think) thickness. I'm going to need to use two small bits of wire into the lace, so it maintains the drooping characteristic of the original hose. That way it can hook inside of the holes on either side, and give an improved ROM.

But I'd have no idea where to find laces like that.

What are you trying to do exactly? if it's punching holes in it, I'm guessing the friction of the drill combined with the pliable nature of the PVC causes it to warp so it's preferable to get something like a belt puncher for it.

How about glow in the dark flora for a display?

I'd like to bring up something that was put up on the Fwoosh recently, it's an interview with a diorama maker who specializes in 1:12 displays. A large number of his parts are derived from salvaged refuse (picture related) and his deviantart and youtube link can be found in the link included.

He has a pretty slurry voice and some of his videos are a little cringe inducing, but he offers fairly detailed explanations at how he sets up his dioramas and the materials and processes involved in its construction. Of note is his considerable attention to detail, something I'm certain all of you will appreciate.

Thinking about making a custom 1/12 scale Papi from 'Monster Musume' or at least just a genetic harpy. Based on Monster Musume, her wingspan is about 13ft, so scaled down and excluding her biceps and shoulder-width each wing needs to be about 5in long. Are there any good bird toys that will fit that size requirement? If so, any with articulation, or is that asking too much?

Oh, and I'd be using modded castings of Miku Append for her human parts (gonna need to sculpt her ass from scratch in place of Miku's tow-winch ass).

Planning to make a Bigby Wolf custom at some point. The head's easy enough (I'll just nab a maskless Wolverine) but the body's giving me some trouble. Bigby's broad and stocky, but most tie and/or trenchcoat figures are more tall and slender (New 52/DCUC Constantine, Movie Masters/Capullo Gordon, Question...) so wouldn't really fit. Hush Gordon and DC Direct Constantine look like they might could work but the articulation is a little limited on them.

Suggestions?

Yep, the middle one is BAF Michael Cole, last I checked he ran around $55, sadly.

>Why's it a shame about the height if being short is canon to the character? Just curious.
He seemed short enough already. He seems a bit out of scale if he's much shorter than you had him.

I never thought of it that way. I guess I got a bit overzealous. Thanks for the feedback though!

sorry, I dont lurk here as much.

Whats the best kind of paint to use if I want to repaint a figure?
I have access to some citadel paint since a friend of mine use to play warhammer. will those suffice?

I dont really play on doing full on custom figures and stuff. I just want to reapaint some old figures that have been scratched up and shit.

Acrylics like those from Citadel are usually fine on toys, I'd just recommend washing the figure you intend to paint with some dish soap prior to painting. Also, thin your paints with either an appropriate thinner, or if it permits it, water. Thinner coats done in layers tend to be more durable and are more aesthetically pleasing.

Here's a list of simple and basic guides for first time customs.

Made a custom MegaBloks MGSV Big Boss. Custom shemagh, painted-on eyepatch, even made the shrapnel-horn and a single-point sling for the rifle, along with a base and a gift box.

Left is the test version, painted up. Left is the original shade. It's subtle, but the difference is there.

As for what I've got coming up:

Making a custom 2.5"-scale Hunter from Destiny. Even making a custom Last Word.

*Right is the original shade. Fuck.

What do you guys recommend to add articulation to old bricky Transformers? Should I just cannibalize joints from cheap Energon toys and add them in?
>>
>>4752971
Buy Masterpieces. But any scout or deluxe Energon Trilogy figure should work.

i was gonna do a hunter figure myself too using the helghast sniper as its base.
decided against it though because i actually like that figure and didnt want to take it apart.
maybe if i find another one, ill probably do it.
>>
>>4753144
Just find a figure with better base articulation.

Question on silicone sealants and hand-mix epoxy.

Does mixing model pain into either affect their curing or physical properties? I want to make some bendy-wire parts (tails, wings, etc) with dyed silicone sealant and dye molded epoxy parts.
>>
Can anyone recommend a decent base body, something with decent articulation, but in a relatively small scale? I'm working on something with some strange proportions, aka shorter legs and longer arms. Something that will be around 4in when it's all said and done.
>>

Scratch that, 3 inches. GI Joes are just slightly too big.
>>
>>4753745
>>4753749
Well that's a weird request. My best bet would be to find a means to kitbash a GI Joe female body with a Megabloks mini figure.

Hobby Base and Yellow Sub make non-ratcheting copies of Figma and Revoltech joints, as well as ordinary ball and socket joints. Search "ball joint slim" on HLJ. The plastic used is a pain in the ass to dye or paint, though.

IDK what you're trying to do but why are you using plaster on a wire frame? That's not a thing you should be doing.
>>
>>4753717
Mix pigments into silicone, not paint - what kind of silicone? Don't try to pigment the epoxy, but depending on what kind it is you might be able to dye it after it has cured.
>>
>>4753717
Actually I should say not model paints, oil paints are fine and a little goes a long way.
