Yea I mean god damn his clear intention was to make the cop THINK he had a gun, he whipped it around as fast as possible after "drawing" it from the back of his fucking pants...he basically killed a Gran Turino only he died trying to get some lean instead of trying to symbolically atone for past sins by saving a hard-working gook from gang life.

Cops are trained to shoot an armed assailant until they stop moving, not just shoot them once, same with soldiers. What next, say he should have just shot him in the arm with a "wounding shot"? That's not a thing either because shooting people is dangerous and you don't do it unless you are prepared to kill them.

This.

When someone has attacked you, and you've shot back, never assume they're out of the fight. Never turn your back, never lower your guard, because they might not be as harmless as you thought. It's easy to say he should have been more restrained when we're looking at this from a calm, safe place, not the three seconds of life or death panic when someone seemingly tries to kill you despite your every warning.

Fuck he even gave ground and backed away, the suspect kept advancing on him and threatening him before making as if to attack him, what the hell did he think was going to happen?

And fuck all those commenters, when you run straight at a cop, who is backing away, has drawn a gun and is warning you to back off, and you keep rushing him while threatening him and then 'pretend' to pull a gun, do you think the cop should wait until you actually shoot him to be justified in defending himself? If the policeman was the one who ended up dead they'd all be shedding crocodile tears, and a few would be claiming the criminal had the right to defend himself from the evil white cop.

I'm still going over books to get a better grasp on the setting, I'm just excited about the idea.

Magic pirate, going to attempt to recreate the golden age of piracy, using magic to protect me from firearms and what not. Ran the idea by the GM when I had it and he said it was fine, but the more I think about it the more I realize I may not even be able to get a pirate republic off the ground since its a modern day setting.

If I mind fuck people into being part of the crew until it gets enough attention I have people genuinely joining up, would I be hit with a paradox or does brainwashing sleepers get around that? Ultimately I'd want to free them, it is going to be a grand experiment in total democracy, all men free to do as they please save for stopping others from doing the same. Want to really bring that lawless chaotic, but fair, vibe that many pirate ships back in 1700s were meant to have.

What did he mean by this?
>>
>>48243287
So that (potential) initial brainwashing wouldn't get me fucked?

Everybody who sais I'm not a nation is likely going to have to enforce that with guns, I can hopefully push the bullets around me and guide my bullets to make sure they hit their target. Defend the new pirate republic a couple times coupled with some taking of vessels or raiding of coastline towns all while uncanny success could maybe get people to let it go for a little while, during which time I'm hoping to get more people to join up.

Like I said, still familiarizing myself with the setting. But if reality in based on consensus, if I were to eventually get tales of some insane pirate LARPing with a group of other insane pirates out at sea as pirates from 300 years ago who just cant seem to get actually shot, not unlike some myths surrounding pirates from that time, could it snowball into a loop of

>legend sais this man cant be shot
>holy shit how did 10 guys unloading 300 bullets at this guy all at once miss every fucking shot
>the legend must be true!

because then I could pull off some god damn magnificent acts of piracy. It all depends on how far reality will let me take it, and if changing the public perception of reality can make it so people believe more and more blatant acts of magic.

International laws were changed, so assuming the game occurs in present day, he couldn't legally declare an abandoned oil rig to be a nation. Of course, sovereignty ultimately is secured with force, but my understanding is that wizards in WoD are keeping the wizard thing a secret from normal people.

>>48244389
>>
>>48244362
If he wants to set up a brand new nation of pirates, it's going to be by force no matter what, which Sealand is a little illustrative of. He's going to have to use a lot less violence if he plants his flag on an oil rig no one is actually using than he would if he tried it on a stretch of coast some country's citizens are actually occupying.

The whole project is probably foolish from the get-go, though, because of the wizards trying to keep magic under wraps.

>>
>>48240603
>Double Hell

Every time
>>
>>48244362
mate after I read a bit on sealand, I could see my new pirate republic going kinda like that with one key difference. Sealand wants to be recognized as a nation. pirates dont need to be recognized, they just need to be left alone. I'll take a place, declare it a separate entity from the rest of the world, then allow democracy to shape the course from there while trying to use my magics to keep us going despite all.

>>48244554
Honestly, it seems like I'd be facing a million problems from recreating a fucking 300 year old pirate republic in modern day, and who knows how much worse that will get if other magic users take issue with it. Not sure on the rules of how paradox works, but things MIGHT work out if other magic users notice what im doing and decide to help me, and if we can use more obvious magic if we can manage to sway the peoples beliefs so that they find nothing shocking about the stuff that happens. It could become an oil tanker of legend.

If you don't know the ways pirates operated in the golden age of piracy though, I will say I expect that the complete democracy thing is going to see the place devolve into chaos and self destruction very quickly.

>but at least I'll be a legend!

Nah. Brexit was voted for by a collection of different people with axes to grind.

1) Racists
2) Northerners that have been waiting 40 years to destroy the south and Westminster in particular.
3) Gullible idiots
4) Old people who want things to go back to the 70's.

And now that we've just gotten another female Prime Minister, and were looking at wholesale privatisation and complete removal of all banking and investment controls in order to keep the economy from going through the shitter, it is difficult to describe just how hard that last group is getting EXACTLY what it voted for. It's the Tories. They fucking invented political weaseling. The main problem with them has never been their competencies (although it's had bad days like every other party) it's been what they use that competencies for, ie: Buggering the poor. Except in this case it's their feedtrough on the block.

Basically the referendum happened because David Cameron trusted the political forecasters to know what the fuck they were talking about. Twice.

First time was in the 2015 elections, everyone is saying another Coalition is in the offing. Cameron has been keep the Referendum off the table but the backbenchers who want it onside by saying that he can't have one because of being in a coalition with the Lib Dems.
Then Labour collapse in Scotland and the Lib Dems effectively cease to exist in british politics.
Daves now fucked, because he no longer has an excuse not to have a referendum. But okay! He says, We'll have you fucking referendum! And when the public vote remain like any sane human being would you don't ever fucking bring this horseshit up again!
I'm pretty sure that like most Tory politicians, Cameron legitemately forgot that England has a north, and it HATES the south. So every time he said "Brexit will destroy the London banks" he was literally campaigning for Brexit to them.

And THAT is how you can go from Prime Minister of a first world nation, to unemployed two weeks.

>3) Gullible idiots
yes, they should have done some research, made a decision based on facts not feelings - and voted the way that the Prime Minister, the banks, and the multinational corporations told them to, like the smart independent thinkers that they are.

Anyone with half a brain voted for Brexit. The Remainers can broadly be summarised as:
1) impressionable children who've been brought up to believe that deviating from accepted dogma is sinful - no, sorry: 'racist'. Have you ever looked at a Buzzfeed article and wonder who the hell reads that crap? Yep, that's them.
2) closeted (and not so closeted) fascists, sans the nationalism part, who actually like the idea of being ruled by an unelected authoritarian government in Brussels. Because sometimes the people just don't know what's good for them.
3) the elite who actually benefit from the economic policies of the EU. Wages and standards of living going down across Europe? Hooray - more cheap cleaners and nannies.

and in case you're thinking that constitutes 48% of the UK population, a lot of the people who voted Remain dislike the EU as much as anyone. There were plenty of people who were just too cautious to want to risk a Brexit.
>>
>>48247705

In short, Thatcher was a firm believer that services were the future and that production and industry were on the way out. The UK would become a beacon of financial and marketing services and the heart of business for Europe, if not the world. That was her dream.

It became true - but just for London and not for any other part of the country. Throughout the rest of the countries - and specifically the heavily industrialized North - factories were shut down, blue collar workers were sneered at and a very specific idea was promoted:

If you want to be successful in life, you need to be wearing a suit and working in an office every day. If you haven't made yourself a part of the white collar elite, then you have failed yourself and deserve everything that you get.

She coined the phrase 'there is no such thing as society.' She tore down factories and transformed the UK into London-and-its-surrounding-hinterlands rather than a balanced nation. And the next time Labour was in control after her reign, they tried really hard to fuck up the country as badly as she did.

It's simple logic. The EU is not allow the UK any profitable trade deals what so ever unless the the UK agrees to keep their borders open and more or less function as a de facto member of the union. The only difference now is that if the UK decides to screw the rules the EU can retract all their deals whereas before all they could do was write a fine that they couldn't enforce the UK to pay because the EU doesn't have any military of its own.

Switzerland have several demands on them from the EU to access the market on more or less equal terms as a member state, and that's still ignoring the glaring reality that as an ex-member state, and even the first ex-member state, the UK will be made an example off and whatever deals they receive will be harsh to say the least.

Maybe you're right, but the path she chose has led to the nation's wealth being focused into a single region while the rest is left to rot. I don't know how another PM would have handled the low profit of the country's industry but I am fully aware of the impact she made, as that's actual history rather than conjecture.

I live in a part of the country that's poorer than Transylvania and got more funding from the EU than it gets from the UK. That's right, a part of the UK that's poverty-stricken enough to get the EU's pity-bux. The infrastructure out here is almost non-existent and after having lived in London, I can safely say that it's comparable to moving to a third world country. The amount of EU immigration here is also non-existent, I can't remember the last time I heard someone European that wasn't an obvious tourist. It didn't stop a 60-40 vote in favour of leaving just to spite London though, that's how much people hate the South-East.
>>
>>48248093
>Its EU suicide to fuck over the UK once they leave
No, it would be to not. That would be a clear signal to all the other member states that there are no consequences for leaving other than them not having to pay their membership fees.
>>

>first ex-member state, the UK will be made an example off
This is a fair point, yeah, that might make the situation worse for the UK compared to never being the member in the first place.

Free trade is good, nay, great for the world and humanity as a whole.

Not so much for first world nations, though. The only way around it is universal income, but that has been beaten out of us ever since the prehistoric times when Thog the Mammoth Slayer got to slay Ulga with his mammoth, rather than Ugg the Sit-arounder.

that's not entirely true: teresa may is an elected MP, and more importantly the Conservative Party was voted into government just last year. Because the prime minister doesn't have the executive powers that, for example, the US President has, it's not so important who holds the office. What counts is which party has the majority of seats in the house of commons. Unlike the US system of 'checks and balances', almost all power in the UK is ultimately in the hands of parliament.

'Right wing extremism' is not a buzzword for 'things I don't like.' I know plenty of Labour voters who were adamant about voting leave despite everything I tried to say to them. Besides, the justification regarding the experts' advice is one of the following:
>Pft, the """experts""" get things wrong all of the time. Why should I trust them to be right about this?!
>This isn't about the economy, this is about our sovereign right to self-govern, which we can't do when the EU makes our laws!
>I don't care what the experts say, if I see another Polish ethnic food store opening in my fucking town I am moving to Australia!

All of which are pretty ridiculous in their own right but hey, those are the arguments people used. Sensible left-wing people as well as sensible right-wing people, who were all blinded by the giant lie of 'muh 350 million a week.'

If the UK is going to compete in the modern world, they can't do it as an independent nation. They don't have the infrastructure, the resources, the educational capacity or the work ethic. They can be part of the EU, or they can become state #51 in the USA. Brexit was not a vote for independence, it was the UK dropping trou and bending over while wiggling their bum invitingly for Uncle Sam to sodomize.

Too bad British people get all of their news from tabloids. They're so ignorant that they actually believed Brexit misinformation and propaganda, and they continue to spout Brexit lies online even after all reputable sources have debunked them and exposed Farage and Johnson as the hypocritical elitist scumbags they are. Getting to be an elected MP is one thing, getting to be the leader of the party that rules by a majority is another entirely. You're right that she lacks the executive powers of say, Obama but it's still a position of some importance.

You're also underestimating the role of the House of Lords and after that, the role of the monarchy should extremists come into power. The UK does have checks of its own, it's just that the importance of parliament's still quite significant.

I wonder if May will go through with her general election though, considering that she said Gordon Brown's rise to power was 'undemocratic.'

A word to the idiot who thinks Brexit is bipartisan rather than the hyper-right-wing nazi anti-minority, anti-immigration movement that it really is: Labour hasn't been liberal since the 70s. Tony Blair was not a liberal. He was George W. Bush's personal servant, fluffer and whipping boy. The party that invaded Afghanistan and Iraq is not liberal. If the UK had a liberal party, they would be a civilized nation with a hope of participating in the modern world. But they don't, so they aren't.

To be fair, the lie of "we're sending 350 million a week to the EU when we could be spending that on our NHS" was eaten up by just about everyone, with almost no tabloid reporting it as falsehood.

And when the country decided to leave, it suddenly emerged that no, they wouldn't be able to put a new 350 million a week into our NHS, that was never what they suggested and it was the voter's fault for misinterpreting them.
>>

>I wonder if May will go through with her general election though, considering that she said Gordon Brown's rise to power was 'undemocratic.'

It could go either way. She can either claim that as she was a senior policymaker in Camerons Cabinet that continuity hasn't been broken and not hold an election. The argument being that the british public votes for a party, not an individual prime minister.

On the other hand, the Labour party are literally about to commit seppku because their current Union installed leader is an unelectable communist who wont resign despite losing complete control over his party. So it's unlikely that there's ever going to be a better time for her to have an election than this.
The only danger is that of a hung parliament resulting in another coaliton, most likely with UKIP this time around, although Liberal Democrats might see a boost as they return to being the protest vote for people who read the Guardian over the Daily Express.

no it wasn't. Firstly, there was a huge amount of debate about how much money the UK was sending to the EU before the referendum. Secondly, there's no real evidence that the magic hypnosis bus had any effect on people's opinions whatsoever.

It's also worth pointing out that it's slightly disingenuous to call it a lie - half-truth might be better. While it's unlikely that the whole 350mil would be able to be diverted to the NHS, if the campaign had said 'there'll be an extra 150mil per week for the NHS' then that's entirely possible. Calling it an outright lie gives the impression that people were duped into thinking there'll be more money for the NHS when in fact there won't be any, which isn't the case.

UKIP has lost its sole appeal in the form of Nigel Farage. Without his charisma and appeal, it's unlikely to succeed with a bunch of nobodies holding the reigns.

And regarding Labour, I'd much rather have Corbyn to Angela Eagle and he'll remain in power. The heart and soul of Labour stand behind him and if the Blairites dislike that, they can split and form their own party of loathed elitists.

Well in the end it doesn't matter, because the NHS could as well get its extra 350 millions per week and it wouldn't compensate the fact the pound dropping negated this amount of money.

I'm pretty sorry for the working class brits who will end up paying more for less and lose their savings in the meantime, because that is already happening.

>pound dropping negated this amount of money.
you do understand that a fall in the value of a currency by 10% doesn't automatically mean that everyone in that country is poorer by 10%, don't you? External trade is effected, but internal economic activity carries on as normal. The NHS isn't likely to be seriously affected by the currency fall unless it continues for several years, since their contracts with suppliers tend to be long term things.

And a currency fall isn't an automatic economic disaster - in fact, it's often a good economic solution. Imports may be more expensive, but exports will become more competitive. So what you often see is less money going out of the money to pay for foreign luxuries, while more money is coming in from the boosted manufacturing sector. Why do you think people are always going on about Greece and the Euro? Greece's problem is that because it's been tied into the Euro, it can't devalue its currency and its economy remains stagnant.

The UK has almost no manufactured exports, its factories were dismantled.

Maybe there's a few exported services in London which might get a boost but there's no manufacturers left to profit from the Brexit economy.
>>
>>48248795
>The NHS isn't likely to be seriously affected by the currency fall unless it continues for several years, since their contracts with suppliers tend to be long term things.
Yeah about that, did the Pound even recover from the 2008 crash ? Not really, no.

Also, which kind of industrial products is the UK exactly manufacturing ? Surely products that don't need much imports in the first place. I mean, it's not like the UK has one of the biggest trade deficit in the OECD.

>>48248859
Financial services can't have access to the common market if they are outside the EU, even the swiss don't have it.
>>
>>48248888
Financial services aren't the only ones provided by London, you're forgetting the media and broadcasting sector although I admit, I'm not sure how much that benefits from the dropping pound.
>>
>>48248859
>>48248888
>the UK has no manufacturing
yeah, because the pound has been overvalued for decades thanks to the financial sector, and trade has been chained to the EU making it very difficult for the UK to gain access to markets where they'd actually have a competitive edge.
>>
>>48248950
I guess removing the competitive edge of having free access to 440 millions of rich customers will do pretty well for british companies.
>>
>>48248950
Trust me, factories aren't about to spring up and we're not about to experience an industrial rebirth for the impoverished North.

Manufacturing wasn't profitable, so the infrastructure that supported it was torn down. It can't be put back together again just like that.
