So after the posts in the last thread, I was thinking about, mechanically, everything I'd need to play an AI with pilot origins jumped in:

Depth+Relevant Autosoft program loaded into AI+Relevant Autosoft Loaded onto drone itself+Pilot Origins Rating

When I say "Relevant", I mean Dodge would be Evasion Autosoft which you can make an ADVANCED program, loaded onto the AI, as well adding what's loaded onto the drone itself. So, evasion, stealth, perception, weapons targeting.

When the jumped-in drone takes damage, you also save vs biofeedback on your AI condition monitor itself.

And if this isn't it I swear to god this is probably how I'll request it to be house ruled because this makes the most sense.

I've been trying to start a game in 3rd E and teach myself how to run it from a book in English (not my first language). My player complained enough that îI just dropped a drekload of cash on 5E books and the 2050 5E supplement, because he swears I'll have an easier time of it. Is this true? Are the 5E rules really more comprehensible to a first time Shadowrun GM? Or did I just waste half of my payday?
Was originally trying to run 3E because I like the setting better and technomancers are stupid.
>>
>>48079063
not many of us sprechen genug deutsch, or know 3e well enough, to help you bernd

5e is mostly good crunch-wise, but the books explain the rules exceptionally poorly

technos are really easy to just ignore though
>>
>>48079063
He is technically true.

But:
>First time SR Game.

Take all your German books.
put away EVERYTHING that is not the core rules book and SR 2050.
Tell your players to build their characters with that, and really only with that.

You COULD allow Schattenläufer and Kreuzfeuer, but if you do, only allow the gear and the positive/negative Qualities from it.
No Surge, no metavariants etc pp. Sum-to-10 might be a good choice for character generation, but Priorities is also fine.

No matter what the players say, don't allow the class specific books (Straßengrimoire, Bodyshop), because this will complicate your game way to much.

Also: There is a semi-active Shadowrun Thread on krautchans /sp/

Hey, /srg/!
I'm looking for locations my street level runner team may want to visit. There's an elvish female from Ireland, a German deserted Bundeswehr breaching specialist ork and a gregarious demolition expert now going rigger, who was made to blow up a building with people now seeking revenge.

They're all basically refugees, have mediocre fighting experience (save for the tanky ork with a combat shield, but he is no weapons expert by any means) and brought only a backpack worth of stuff to a location I can basically design all by myself: Belgrade, Serbia.

So again: What locations should I prepare for them to be visitable with fleshed out NPCs etc.? So far I got the following:

>restaurants
>hospital
>Stuffer Shack
>clothing shop (or w.e. that's called in ENG)
>estate agency
>electronics store
>betting office
>fitness studio
>hotel and guesthouse
>clothing dispensers

Things I'm already planning to create:

>club
>urban brawl arena / area

What else?
Not talking story related stuff, just optional offers to fill the world with life.

>>
>>48081683
I just had time for a quick look. It seems okay, but there are a couple of issues that I noticed.
You should probably have an Edge of 2, at least. 1 Edge does not leave you with much of a safety net.
I don't really think that a Strength of 4 is enough to justify the points in unarmed. Shooting is pretty much always going to be the better option for you with so little investment. You might consider shuffling those points elsewhere or if you're committed to that, picking up some shock gloves to at least make you a bit more effective.
You could do with some more armor. 12 is generally considered the 'minimum' for people whose speciality isn't combat. Get some gel packs or some arm guards or some PPP or whatever.

No, because all the writers got to make one and that's now their pet.

>>
>>48081798
Not exactly sure where to squeeze the karma out for Edge 2.
I'll take a look at shock gloves, though; I just wanted a backup option if I get disarmed.
Probably pick up arm guards, then. Wanted the Urban Explorer for flavor reasons.
>>
>>48081683
i'd really try and free up a skill point to specialize in machine pistols.

improved agility is very expensive for what it does. attribute boost is going to give you twice (or more) the bonus to everything except movement rates for one quarter the power points.

i'd be willing to bet you could make the exact same character in karmagen and have resources to spare, if your group allows it
>>
>>48081966
I unironically like Harlequin. He's a good foil to all the high-speed low-drag black trenchcoat autists in /srg/.
>>
>>48079494

He better answer my questions and answer them satisfactorily.
>>
>>48078957
Shadowrun is goofy as fuck. The cartoony style fit pretty well.

Certainly better than any of the generic 4th and 5th ed stuff.
>>
>>48082084

I kind of like the idea of Harlequin. If you look at characters like, say, Hercules, they're basically one-dimensional murder machines that represent the common repressed psychology of the culture they reflect. Harlequin is like that, if they were an actual person, transposed into a bizarre fantasy-cyberpunk setting. Mary-sue-ness just sort of seems inevitable in that context, and I guess the only thing to do is keep them out of the gameplay and try not to mess up any writing about them.
>>
>>48081969
Personally I would do away with the positive qualities. Losing Agile Defender is not so great but you'd basically be exchanging a combat-only safety net for an all purpose one.
You may just not want to do that though. Given that it's an F-List game I would assume that it's not a full Black Trenchcoat operation so I mean, you can probably just do whatever you like desu.

>>
>>48082084
I don't mind any of the Jackpointers. Some of them are dicks, but it's not like all of them are supposed to be likeable and nice folks. Rigger X still being alive after betraying every single team he has worked with, including Jackpoint, is hard to believe but then again, he is properly paranoid and mainly only deals with rookies who aren't match for him.

And yeah, there are a lot of people who like to play pink-mohawk so having the setting occasionally show that not all of it is grimdark is not that bad.

Called shots can be pretty broken in 4th considering you give up -2 to hit for +2 damage. Which statistically you would need to roll six dice to get that +2 damage. Combine that with how cheap it is to specialize in a combat skill (2 karma) if you pumped your main combat skill high enough, or just stacked the to hit buffs, you can just constantly take the to hit penalty for the damage.

At least in 5th ed, they bumped it up to a -4 to hit, and specializing costs 7 now.

TL;DR: yes you should always make use of called shot in 4th ed.

I don't think there is a picture of one in the book (at least, I can't find one with a quick flip through the relevant section), but it is described as "an oval or cylindrical unit 50 centimeters long and 30 centimeters in diameter".

Hey Chummers. I managed to hop in my first game tonight, and I kind of need help.
I for some reason thought I'd be jumping into a densely populated city (like seattle) and doing pink mohawk play, but it's more like a series of small towns in the New Mexico/Texas area, and by the DM's own words "Pink Trenchcoat" play.
He said it's fine if I change as much as my character as I want as long as it's still the same basic type, and recommended in particular I look at cyberware, which for some reason just makes my head explode.

I was wondering if I could get any tips on/just look at the following, some of which I obviously didn't fill out:
>no Cyberware, was suggested cybereyes
>no Contacts
>no knowledge skills
>Changing my Skills/Meta/Attributes around, if needed even priority or adding skills while removing/reducing others.
>Talents, dunno how those are, or if I should add/change.
>Gear, I just added packs and did some minor modifications & additions, dunno how I feel about these
>Anything else I missed

Thanks in advance.
>>
>>48086545
>portrait shoved itself into the knowledge skills box

>>
>>48086545
My suggestion on 'ware is that you get at least a smartlink in your eyes if you don't want to shell out for cybereyes with a smartlink and one other small mod. (Assuming rating 1 here)

With wireless on, it lets you get +2 dice to shots with all those guns that have smartguns in 'em.

You may want to simplify your combat skill selection a little, and with it your weapon choices. Pistol and an automatic (use auto/burst fire) are plenty in most cases.

Oh, and if you want to get a little silly about your 'ware, get a cyberlimb, put in a rating 5 sensor or sensor array, and start off combat with a Sensor attack. Basically your Perception -3 [5], against the enemy's stealth. Net hits are additional penalties to the enemy's defenses. In that case, take some of those skill points you hopefully freed up and increase your Perception, perhaps with a specialty, so that you can surprise people with it.

Skip the flechette rounds and get Stick-n-Shock. Get licenses (same level as your fake SIN) for anything rated R. And get something that gives you extra initiative dice. As a sammy you want to be hitting first and more often, and even one die will help with that a lot.
>>
>>48086633
>at least get a smartlink in your eyes
Yeah, that's the main plan, I think, or just cybereyes. Probably rating 1, yeah.
>With wireless on, it lets you get +2 dice to shots with all those guns that have smartguns in 'em.
So that would make my ares predator 18 dice?
Oh drek, that sounds awesome.
I'll look at simplifying stuff, I'll probably reduce longarms, armorer and sneaking 2 or so points.
Realized the sheet doesn't show group, so here's what I've got:
>Athletics-5
>Close Combat-2
>Outdoors 3
I took priority A Skills, B Attributes, C Metatype, D Nuyen, and obviously mundane.
>Oh, and if you want to get a little silly about your 'ware, get a cyberlimb, ect
That sounds fun as fuck, I eventually want to get a cyberlimb, unsure if I have the nuyen ATM. Reason for not having it is actually pretty ingrained in my background, plus I want _All_ the guns.
I thought I can only have 1 skill (outside groups) maxed at chara creation?

>skip flechette rounds

Nah, that's attribute (excluding Edge and Special Attributes that you don't have).

And a weapons specialist is still Sammy-enough to want the extra initative. Even if you can use Edge a few times for 5d6 instead of one, you may want a more recoverable or constant boost.
>>
>>48086806
Ripped straight from the core book archetypes.
I picked skills/weapons/quality from there, at least.
>>
>>48086545
>character seems to be completely focused on combat
>has only 1 dice of initiative
I'm all for not-minmaxing, but this seems pretty bad. Even your average street thug can dose himself with some cheap drugs to get 2 dice.

If you want to be a street samurai, you need an edge. That edge is either cyberware, drugs or adept magic.
you have neither, so you're gonna get wrecked in combat.

Switch focus to something else or get some implants/become an adept. I don't reccomend combat drugs.
>>
>>48086863
>>48086957
ah, ok.
Thanks.

I'm having a bit of trouble looking for initiative boosters outside drugs/this one adept power, or a quality that I can't seem to name that only applies to non-augmented characters (thus no cybereyes or limbs)
There's the Adrenaline Surge quality, though I don't know how one takes qualities after chara creation, in all honesty. haven't gotten to that yet

I really don't want to do combat drugs in any case, so it's good that they're not recommended.
>>
>>48086989
The quality only doesn't stack with other augments to initiative. It's also really expensive and thus kinda crap.

You can have cyber-or-bio-ware of any other kind with that quality; just not initiative enhancing ones. Same for Magic. Although in both cases I think you could still boost the things that make up Initiative, it's just not a good choice.
>>
>>48086989
Adding on to my words here>>48087006 Adrenaline Surge is almost worse than Lightning Reflexes (what you were thinking of as applying to non-augmented).

It only takes place once in combat and doesn't give you any other benefits. But if you wanted to buy it afterwards and the GM thought you could (say you trained to shoot as zen or something), you'd buy it at double cost with your karma.
>>
>>48086989
>looking for initiative boosters outside drugs/this one adept power

Yeah, if you wanna do combat you're pretty much forced to get wired reflexes and thus sacrifice a ton of money/essence or be an adept and get that one adept power.
Or be an addict, I guess.

You could hang on as a stealth specialist/assassin in the party until you have enough cash to get wired reflexes.
The bright side is that once you do get wired, with your natural abilities/skills you're gonna be awesome.

Hows this?
I figure It's easier getting rating 1 cybereyes in somewhat the ass end of nowhere than wired reflexes, we apperently have a rigger with a big fucking truck so I don't /need/ a bike right now, and I got rid of some other minor stuff.
I can make the eyes, limb, a bike, and more guns a goal, and it will probably still be only half as expensive as wired reflexes.
>>
>>48086521
Thank you omae
>>
>>48087319
You may consider getting the Wired Reflexes as Used grade. Takes up more essence, but is cheaper, and if you're not going to 'ware up much the savings are great. Plus if you do eventually manage to have 'em taken out and replaced with a better grade, the difference in essence will still be available to fill in.

You may also want to increase the ratings of your earbuds and glasses and put some more kit into 'em if you do this. And possibly also get the eyes with that extra scratch. Remember that implanted (either straight in the eyes or in cybereyes) smartlinks are better than in gear ones.

And also you can turn off the Wired Reflexes for when you don't want to experience the world in slow motion. But you lose the benefits while it's off.

(And yeah, that's a good initiative. You get either two passes or one big defense and one action the majority of the time.)
>>
>>48087319
Omae, it doesnt matter that you can shoot the wings of a fly with that fancy arm and cybereye if the other guy shoots you in the chest first.

Initiative is the most important thing in shadowrun combat.

Gather cash to get wired. The sooner the better.

Or accept youre not gonna be the combat guy and focus on stealth and infiltration/assassination.
>>
>>48087404
I told myself I was gonna get used grade cyberware, and then didn't actually do it.
Rest of the stuff is also gonna be done, too.
thanks for the advice, it's wiz.
>>48087421
The second try already is wired, buddy.
>>
>>48087449
That one >>48087421 is giving technically better advice, but neither of us know how optimized your group is. And you don't want to be the only or first one to really start pushing things if others aren't.

What you've got is probably good as long as you're not in a group of 20+ die attack throwing, regular triple pass-ers. And don't forget edge. If you need even more speed because you think the fight's going to get hairy, you can go from 8+2d6 init to 8+5d6 init.
>>
rigger 5 has drone armor greater than 12 as forbidden, but how obvious is it and if its on an anthro with drone limbs how much can be hidden with just clothing
>>
Would it make sense for a Runner that buys, sells, and steals information to have Cryptome as their paragon? The disadvantage has me thinking he'll uncover important data and not want to let go of it, which doesn't really mesh with the concept.
>>
>>48087509
As far as I can tell: not very optimized. At all.
So, It'll probably be fine, maybe even a bit much.

I'm really digging the extra shit on the earbuds/glasses, by the way. Even nabbed the eyes with smartlinks like you said.

Speaking of Edge/not optimized, getting cyber-eyes completely negates the elf low-light vision, yeah?
Then, I'll probably end up making my character human because I've got a better idea for design and background, plus the extra 3 edge without shifting any priorities around doesn't hurt.
Everything else would be the same, except agi and cha would be one-two less respectively
Any major problems with that?
>>
>>48087515
It probably depends on a mix of what kind of drone, exactly how much armor, and if you have anything to disguise it, like say Realistic Features.

Well, that one's probably not the best choice, but it's the first example that came to mind.
>>
>>48087596
Yes, it does. However you can put Low Light back in, but that would need better rating eyes to have with a smartlink. And in that case you'd have room for some other stuff in there.

And the only things I can think of would involve the (eventual) maximums on that arm you might want to put in later, but more importantly, also hurting your ability to lie without spending Edge.

Admittedly, you might have done that anyway with this build, but something to keep in mind.
>>
>>48087652
>Admittedly, you might have done that anyway with this build
Done what?
sorry, getting tired
>>
>>48087660
Spent Edge to get more dice to roll when you needed to lie. Unless you were really lucky and only needed to reroll to beat a low opposing roll.

I decided to do a somewhat sillier version of that Skillwires Techno idea I joked about in a previous thread.

I doubt I'll ever get to use it, but if you do, remember to have a Machine Sprite Diagnose your cyber-arm, edge for initiative dice in a combat, and do a Sensor attack so that it's like you're doing some kind of burst fire with every shot/slash.

I have a character idea for an escaped prototype human clone from a cybertech laboratory who has prototype datajack stuff in his head (would have broken out about 2023-ish or something like that).

What I imagine is a character whose brain (or a significant portion of his brain) is replaced by a huge clunky whirring machine because it was a the time the best they could do for datajacks and knowsofts and stuff. Can we stop misusing Mary Sue please?

Like seriously, read some fragging literature or some shit. It doesn't mean "character I don't like" it means "audience surrogate power fantasy who gets everything they want and and who everyone looks up to". Since this is a role playing game with an established universe and noir-themed rules no one can be an ultimate power fantasy because one person can never have it all or change the world or be much of a power fantasy aside from being good at killing rent-a-cops. They can never be universally loved because that would require all shadowrun players to choose to suck them off constantly. Their characters all have flaws and dumb character quirks.

The only fair mary sue would be Harlequin, but even then he's less mary sue and more just irritating series-wide special snowflake tumor man.

>The Olympics sort of fell apart from 2032 to 2040, what with little distractions like the Crash of '29, the collapse of the U.S., and the EuroWar. The Games were revived officially in 2044, even though several different sets of Olympics were held during the disorganized period. Heck, in 2034 there were three Games, in Beijing, Buenos Aires, and Johannesburg. None of these competitions had more than twenty countries participating, and all results from these "outlaw" games were dropped from official records when the new International Olympic Committee (IOC) started the Games up again.
>The Olympics are the ultimate defenders of "purity" in "amateur" athletics. Paid professionals, cybered athletes, and physical adepts are their big concern. Other probs get the big blind eye.
>The Olympics were opened to multinational corporate teams in 2044, and now winning a medal is worth big corp prestige. About a fifth of all medals end up going to corporate "amateur" athletes. Nice to know that someone who puts in an hour a week sitting at a desk, pulls down a comfy salary for doing it, and spends the rest of the time getting the best training money can buy, is an amateur.
>The Olympics still run Summer and Winter Games, and only a few of the events have changed in the last fifty years. The Winter Games haven't changed at all, in fact.
>Rhythm gymnastics, synchronized swimming, and yachting were cut from the Summer Games and replaced by kendo (added for the 2056 Tokyo Games, so this is still up in the air), karate/tae kwon do, jai alai, and lacrosse.

From Shadowbeat, which covers a lot of sports. Cyberware is in almost every professional league, but they have restrictions on the kinds (basketball players can't get higher than WR1 or a limb replacement, for example). Adepts are in a weird place where they are allowed, so long as they have no cyber at all, and they can't be fired simply for being magic.

Also 5e keeps priority, but adds other chargen methods such as just raw Karma, and Sum-to-ten, which is priority, but you just need to have your choices add up to ten "points", with A being four, B being 3, C being 2, D being 1, and E being 0 (meaning you can do standard priority ABCDE(4+3+2+1+0=10) or mix it up with stuff like AACEE(4+4+2+0+0=10) or even CCCCC(2+2+2+2+2=10).

I realized that Marquis from Battleborn would make a great bbeg for shadowrunners. A SINLESS and Hobo hating nobleman with the worst traits of industrial revolution into him. He would make a great threat sent by Lowfyr when the Sinless or Murderhobos pissed him off.
>>
>>48095342
Yeah, that's what I figured from the start, but I worked it out just in case.
>>
>>48095406
I wouldn't be playing shadowrun if i didn't hate myself and weren't retarded.

Does anyone else think the foci crafting rules are broken as shit? I’ve recently been wanting to get into Shadowrun, so I’ve used Chummer to create an academic-leaning mage who is about as good as you can get at arcana and artificing since I figured those would be interesting mechanics to experiment with. Unfortunately, after reading through the rules, the process seems hopelessly unrewarding for all that needs to be invested into it. Here’s a theoretical run through it I did:

Step 1: Making the Formulae
Sustaining Focus Force 6 (Extended arcana test, threshold 36)
Took 9 days.

Step 2: Making the Telesma
5 hits sculpting.

Step 3: Prepare Lodge

Step 4: Spend Regents
Use six (180 nuyen)

Step 5: Craft the Focus
Artificing + Magic [formula Force] v. formula Force + telesma’s Object Resistance
12 die [limit 6 hits] v. 8 die minimum (can’t spend edge here, and if you critically glitch you lose 1/6th of your soul)
4 hits v. 3 hits (potential for a force 1 foci)

Resist Drain:
DV: 6+3
Rolled 5 hits so take 4 stun (If you pass out you lose all progress.)
Spend 1 karma to get an unbonded force 1 sustaining foci.

That's fourteen skillpoints and one specialty spread across three attributes for a low chance at producing a force one focus, with a probability of permanently crippling your character.

Alchemy in general is shit. Don't have the experience with older editions to say whether it was always shit, or whether it's something new.

Crafting your own foci is always going to be a mug's game, because (as you see) it's very difficult to do, especially if you want your character to actually be a shadowrunner, and thus should be focusing on skills that let you do that.

I've seen some niche stuff, though; if you make sure you've got a bunch of drain and recovery die (Quick Healer helps) and you'll throw down money for reagents, you can have some neat effects- low-force (4 or less) preparations that don't have an opposed test, boost the limit with reagents, and you get good potency for minimal drain. Combat is terrible, but you can do things like having a sustained Mindlink, or giving someone a Heal preparation (which has to be done with a Command trigger, which uses LOS) then you can heal from across the room, and without having to sustain. Or you throw out a Chaotic World orb, or give the infiltrator/face an emergency Invisibility/Armor with a contact trigger. It's going to be not as good as casting spells a la carte, but it can be done.

Just don't forget to pay your UTA dues.

Do you think I should scrap it from the getgo, or actually try to make this thing happen?
>>
if you really want then do. sr is full of sperg munchkins who scoff at less than 26 dice in a particular skill but it is still a role playing cyberpunk fantasy game. As long as you prepare to deal with the shortcomings inherent to AI and make sure you have a social skill at total of 12 dice and a weapons skill at total of 12 dice and give a good smattering of flavour/ options for other skills you'll do fine.

Also your character intrigues me, tell me its backstory.

Not that fleshed out yet. It's a nannybot who refused to be re-assigned from its charges. Then they moved its charges, and it refused to stop caring for them. Violence occurs somewhere around here, when the corp police realize this robot is making its way, hell or highwater, to where it believes the kids are.

After exhausting leads to find the kids, it took to seedier occupations to help expand its information network and pay for various repairs and upkeep fees. Still has a major softspot for kids, though. I intend to roleplay it as something of a team mom. Making sure everyone had a healthy breakfast, make them buckle up, stab the shit out of people trying to mess with them, that kind of thing.

Okay, more info so I can hopefully get a not-sarcastic answer:

I want to put a hidden weapon in one of those Medusa Extension drones so that I have a surprise holdout. A monowhip hits very hard/has a little range range/would fit in one of those tiny cyber-tentacles, so it seems like a great option.

I'm assuming it requires SOME Sort of weapon mounting, though.
>>
>>48096732
>>48096732
Yeah, I took one look through the rules for alchemy and decided against it entirely.

I just don't get why they made artificing and arcana so terrible. There aren't even rules for crafting spell formulae, presumably because it would be so absurdly unrewarding no one would want to do it. Surely if you have a skill level that the book describes as “professional” you should at least be somewhat competent.
>>
>>48097625
At a guess, something pistol capable, but it'd probably be easier to put a drone arm on (It's a cheaper cyber arm, you see) and give it better stats to use the whip with.

And, you know, put other mods in.
>>
>>48097694
How do the stats benefit me, though? Monowhips don't use strength in any way, and the attack pool for the drone is Pilot + Targeting, so boosting the AGI on the arm seems like it won't factor into the pool any. I'm not sure why I'd want to do this.

Though, that does kind of give me an idea. The corebook says that you can put a monowhip in a fingertip compartment 'for free' and it functions from there just fine. Do you think it'd be okay for me to say that I've rigged up a medusa drone with a smuggling compartment the same way?
>>
>>48090822
Attitude and Shadowbeat cover sports, iirc.
>>
>>48097864

>>48091206
>>
>>48097806
>Do you think it'd be okay for me to say that I've rigged up a medusa drone with a smuggling compartment the same way?

I think it would be OK for you to ask the GM if you could do that.
>>
>>48098034
Would you allow it if you were a GM?
>>
>>48095424

Another bump
>>
>>48097806
If the arm's Agi is higher than the Pilot (and it starts with Agi = Pilot), then you use arm's stats when using the arm.

So if you boosted the AGI all the way to Pilot*2, you've got a better pool when using that arm to fight.

>>48097692
The best use for a point of Alchemy is to get reagents on the fly. Takes an hour, yes, but it's hopefully still an extra dram or so free.

The second best involve a Fetish Limited Healthy Glow, rating 6 medkit, spy-drone controlled by a friend, and two command attack spells, one hopefully electric, one area that won't hurt the drone.
>>
>>48098260
Depends on the kind of rigger. You may be a bit essence tight, though, and definitely are going to have to make some cuts.

Well, I wouldn't say smuggling compartment, because that's intended for bodies or vehicles, but I'd probably say a small weapon mount (pop-out) would do it, if it was a player asking at my table. YMMV

Also, what Medusa drone are you talking about? The only SR Medusa I know is the walker from SCIRE.

Is it normal for every runner to just get all the best weapons in the game after 2 or 3 runs in 5?

I mean, following the guidelines for cash in the basic book my runners got enough cash (and one of them had really good arms dealer contact) that everyone got all the top weapons in the game today, with only 3 runs to their name.
>>
>>48098358
You'll probably want to invest in the Swarm program, get a datajack (despite what it says, the wireless bonus is why the cord in a rig isn't like a datajack), and three antenna implants. Either in your meat or in cyberears.

Noise reduction stacks, and you're going to be using at least some of your RCC's device rating for running autosofts instead of having your drones do it and that lowers the noise reduction the RCC can give.

Also ask your GM which version of the drone defense rules are being used, and if it's the vehicle combat-area ones, ask which Autosoft.

Oh, and get a hardware kit, some edge, and take apart cheap stuff for parts so that you can mod Sleaze 2 onto your RCC. It'll help you hide your drones while they're running silent just a little.

OK, in that case I would treat it very differently. It's not a drone in any practical sense (they give drone stats, but I have no idea why), and it's also not 5e (which is why I suggested a hand originally, because it specifies only mounting reach 0 weapons on drones in R5).

If you want it to independently fight (or to wave your head around while it slices) I would say no. The extension is poorly placed to do that, and nobody is dexterous enough to use a head-mounted weapon. If you want to have a monowhip handle that LOOKS like a medusa extension, which you pull out to fight with, sure. Buy some glue, maybe add a few nuyen for a custom look and go nuts (again, at my table).

Are AI characters worth it?
I sort of want to make an e-ghost on an RCC, using a Direktionssekretar as a proxy and otherwise being standard rotodrone rigger. But Chummer doesn't support priority gen yet for AI and I'm really not a fan of karmagen.

While weapons are nice, the real money sinks are for 'ware, instruction, or both.

>>48097692
Honestly, I'd imagine that a spell formula is a relatively simple Arcana or Instruction roll, depending on what format you're going to put it in. The costs are generally either for secrecy (illegally made ones) or licensing fees.

Well, maybe.
If they're so full up on cash that they can get everything they want outright, at least make them wait for their stuff. Unless they want to chip in and do some of the legwork themselves, and at their own expense.

Up to you, though. Power levels vary. I know some GMs like to run their games closer to 'If we hock this cyberdiamond and get 10-15% *maximum* what it's worth, we might be able to pay off the Yaks, the lease, stitch up my legs, and get some Nuke-It on the way back home to the hole we dug in the ground with a tarp over it.'

If you throw enough money at it, you can get some pretty nice weapons.

Can you afford fake licenses for them, or a safe place to store them (no, your low lifestyle shit apartment doesn't count)? Can you afford the 'ware to use it to maximum effectiveness, or are you a weekend warrior running around with a 5k AR-15 and your paunch hanging out over your belt (metaphorically)? Can you afford all the extra gear, like a car with a smuggling compartment to move the weapons, all the surveillance equipment to make sure you're shooting the right guy, etc? Hell, can you even afford the bullets to fire full-auto for more than a minute? Or rent?

Sure, if you want to you can blow all your cash on a big flashy gun (and paying off that arms dealer to get it for you, because of course you're using the Contact rules about how to trade nuyen for availability, and the percentage the contact takes), but it's not practical for most characters. Get a gun that works and save the dough for what matters.

It's one of the best things you can do for hitting dodgy assholes. The other one, incidentally, involves rating 5 sensors put in a cyberarm (person) or the appropriate max in a drone.

Just gotta hope for a good Perception roll (-3 dice) and a bad stealth roll (what they're probably using to oppose).
