Say /tg/, let's say the powers that be introduced a new rule to EDH. It says "A non-legendary creature may be your commander except it gains(becomes?) legendary while under your control."
Do you think any interesting decks would arise or are too many build-around-me abilities locked behind the Legendary gate?

But I'd like it, because it woudl allow me to finally make that Lab Maniac-centered deck I've tried to run for so long.
Maybe it coudl be done by allowing only commons.

Also why would "becomes a legend" be a restriction?
EDH is already singleton
and because of Wizard's fuckassery with the rules, each player can now control a copy of the same legend at the same time.

It would stop you from getting free access to unrestricted commander token shenanigans which is beyond the scope of this thought experiment. That's also why I also added the "under your control bit" so other players can go about their business normally.
