Goddamnit, that series pisses me off so much. The first novel was pretty ace, and then the second novel turned him into LITERALLY Iron Man, but also Superman, but also Batman, but also The Punisher.
And then it had a tournament arc.

>>47937494
Those players likely see them more as set pieces than as actual people, and since they can usually be assumed to be plot important they can get away with abusing them to an extent without much actual consequence. Basically, the players figure that the GM has already mapped out which NPCs will like the players for the sake of the story so they abuse them since they won't be able to bite back without fucking up the plot.

The Qwerty keyboard layout only exists because it produced less wear on mechanical typewriters - it spread out commonly used letters. It's comparatively very inefficient as a result, but it's used everywhere instead of better layouts because it's the one that got social momentum (everyone's used to it)
>>47942351
>The Qwerty keyboard layout only exists because it produced less wear on mechanical typewriters - it spread out commonly used letters.
Oh, anon, no: that's a myth.
>>47942405
>>47942351
The real reason is that it slows typing down so that typewriters don't get jammed. It's still incredibly inefficient.

>>47935461
Elaborate on this gif.
>>47942696
Close, but not quite. It actually speeds up typing, by preventing jams. Because a jam would slow you down a lot more.
But since halfway decent modern keyboards don't rely on mechanical actuation of a typebar to work, QWERTY izz juzz dum.
(Technically most cheap modern keyboards are still limited by physics due to keyboard matrix design. However, a decent keyboard will just use isolation diodes to prevent ghosting on the hardware side.
Then you run into the problem of USB being a polling interface with fixed-length packets, instead of interrupt-based e.g. like P/S2... as far as I know, most keyboards achieve NKRO over USB by using a microcontroller to fake multiple keyboard inputs. More advanced [i.e. non-Chinese] designs modify the software protocols or have custom drivers.)
tl;dr you're right that qwerty is shitty for typing on keyboards, but wrong in that it was designed to slow typing down - it was designed for maximal typebar separation to SPEED UP typing, by preventing jams.

Sorry, but can someone please explain what is going on in the webm? l understand what fate points are, l just don't understand how it applies to this, or what is going on in it
>>47946562
Fate points are burned to evade/retcon certain death.
The guy in the picture moves away from his spot literally the moment before a bullet passes through the spot where he was standing. If he stayed there, the bullet would've went right through his gut.
The joke is that the guy actually got that bullet but the player controlling him burnt a fate point to move away and survive.
>>47946562
It looks like he takes a hit in the chest, his armor stops it, and as he falls over, several rounds go through where he was.
Either way, he conveniently fell over and that saved his life.
>>47946562
Fate points can be burned to have a character miraculously survive something that would have killed them. Near the end of the webm, a bullet punches through the wall right through the space the man was only a moment ago. The implication is that he "burned a fate point" to miraculously get out of the way.

>>47949237
Hmm, the 4e comic came out after the books, but before the show. It's plausible that it could be a coincidence.
>>47949237
The comic's actually pretty rad. The characters are all broad fantasy stereotypes, but they're used a bit playfully. My favorite might be the dwarf. Sure, he's a gruff dorfish paladin, but before that he was a poet, and his sweetheart's father didn't want his future son-in-law to be some artsy pansy. Also, the halfling might be one of the only likeable CN characters I've ever encountered.
>>47944702
It doesn't necessarily slow typing down, though. It's designed to maximize the probability that a word will alternate letters between hands as much as possible. Paradoxially this means a skilled touch typist might well be faster on Qwerty because both hands are moving at once and thus have more time to set up for their "turn."
A better way of examining the difference is that QWERTY is designed for maximum alteration whereas Dvorak is designed for minimum movement.
The longest English word that can be typed using only left-assigned keys is "stewardesses"

Hey, man, you gotta survive somehow.
The arab spring was set off by a fruit vendor. The cops kept confiscating his wares because he wasn't paying them enough bribes, so he'd have to keep paying to get it out of impound. Eventually, he got fed up with it, walked into the square in front of the governor's office and, in the middle of noon traffic, yelled "How do you expect me to make a living?!" and set himself on fire with a can of gasoline.

"The catalyst for the escalation of protests was the self-immolation of Tunisian Mohamed Bouazizi. Unable to find work and selling fruit at a roadside stand, Bouazizi had his wares confiscated by a municipal inspector on 17 December 2010. An hour later he doused himself with gasoline and set himself afire. His death on 4 January 2011[67] brought together various groups dissatisfied with the existing system, including many unemployed, political and human rights activists, labor, trade unionists, students, professors, lawyers, and others to begin the Tunisian Revolution.[59]"
