I recall a conversation from a comment section some time, where one guy was talking about british food: they mentioned that it was heavy, and in particular was greasy as fuck. They then went on to say that while this might be counted against it, given the way brits drink and how good the food was for hangovers it made sense.
This seems eminently dwarfish to me. Also amusing, given that I'm a bong.
My personal fondness for Irn Bru as a hangover cure means I'd possibly include it as a dwarf soft drink in a setting.
I'd also imagine that something like cornish pasties, given their origins as mine-worker food (there's a crust that you hold so you don't get coal dust on your food) might be seen, at least for day-to-day food

Let me regale you stout ones, a tale of a dwarf of no compare. Greatest among all below the earth or under the sky.
The tale of Kosoth Swordshafts, the Key of Honoring.
Hero of the Battle of Blacktoad, Defender of Autmnash. Hammer of Goblins, Bulwark of Stone,Lover of Billon , and reluctant leader of his people.
Autmnash was not going well. One of my miners had been killed by a giant fucking canary in the first season. My first migrant wave had been a peasant couple and their child. Work was behind schedule, I had to choose between enough booze to drink or food to eat. The Third wave of migrants was kind of OK. Four laborers and to my surprise, a speardwarf. I thenk checked his kill page.
FIVE-THOUSAND-TWO-HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-THREE GOBLINS. TWO TROLLS. A GIANT COUGAR. MANY MANY FUCKING WOODLAND CREATURES.
An avatar of destruction, and a salvation of fun had arrived. All worries of booze shortage forgotten, my dwarves set themselves to forging my new militia commander a set of steel armor to wear into battle. By the time he had a helmet, spear and shield a goblin ambush attacked. Luckily my carpenter got away unscathed, but it was only time until they entered the fort. Fuck it, send it Kosoth. He then proceeded to kill the fuck out of four goblins, braining them each time with one, precise stab. Kosoth then proceeded to handle everything solo for an entire year. My first siege happened. Kosoth DID go into battle with a squad that time, not that he needed it. He one shot the leader and the siege broke instantly. Kosoth and the Key Guard(squad name) eventually got equipped with adamantine. The killed Colossi, Forgotten Beasts, Titans, many, many goblins.
How did he die, you ask? In the dwarfiest fashion known to man. A giant fire-breathing copper scorpion attacked from below, I instantly tasked the key guard to attack, Kosoth got there first. Kosoth, in true fashion, brought it down an three hits. He then died.

I like to think he ascended into the heavens to become a patron saint of dwarfs. I constucted him a solid billon tomb, inside a two layer high key carved from the earth. All my dwarfs from then, it seems like, from then on carved only images of his exploits.

4e was really well designed, from an art and layout standpoint. It was really pleasing to flip through and look at. 3.5e was a little old-fashioned in a comfy way, but the art flipflopped between pretty good and pretty bad, so it was a nice change to have art that was so good.

About 4e, I know its not shit, I cant play because my friends prefer 5e, but I have to disagree about the layout, I think some of the reasons to people say "its not D&D" is the way powers are show (Blocks) and there are some art that feels just throwed in the book, I like when the art "blend" in the book, there are some pictures that are "squares" in the book.

4e art was consistant, and competent, sure, but I always thought the design choices were garbage. Loads of ugly ass gilded triangles everywhere in the armor design, cringeworthy magical effects, warcraft-style pauldrons. I can appreciate that it could fit the more pulpy feel of the gameplay (which I loved), but stylistically it just felt like it was trying too hard for my taste.
Admittedly, the dwarves took to the 4e style the best, but everyone else (especially tieflings and dragonborn) looked like hot garbage.

Eh, 5e art just feels incomplete half the time to me - mostly because some of the art is obviously copy pasted onto a background, and because the backgrounds have that sort of 'half-painted' design going on so that it's supposed to kind of fade into the old booky look. That just doesn't look as good as 3.5e's more sketchy bits did. If 4e had too many blocks, 5e is trying too hard to avoid any, so there's barely any boundary between text and art.

Unless you know swedeish you're pretty screwed with trudvang, since it's pretty exclusive to DoD and it's decedents, however I've heard an english translation is on it's way.
The humans are pretty creative too, they aren't just straight ripped from human cultures although it has a very strong dark ages nordic mythology influence.

Heraldry's purpose was essentially making people recognizable on the battlefield. Unlike we see in video games, medieval warfare was a huge colorful mess of people beating the shit out of each other. Friendly fire was dangerously common. So it's not "look at me" - more like "we are on the same side, please don't stab me in the neck."
I'm currently playing a Dwarf Monk in 5e.
I'm trying really hard to flavor it as a dwarf fortress-y as possible.

I don't see how that would be an issue. Likely a mapmaker would have a generic hold symbol down, possibly corresponding to the size based on square footage or whatever. Then the clan's symbol next to it. But i dont see that being an issue.
Dwarfs take oaths and lawbreaking very seriously, but they arent petty.

Depends on the social structures of the dwarven society - dwarven kingdoms, with nobles, clans and big egos might mark their own holds with better-looking symbols than that of rival kingdoms on their maps, but if they're more equality-minded dwarves, which could go all the way to Hammer and Mattock dwarf communists, the Coalition of Council-led Communist Clans (recall that soviet = council) then they might rigidly enforce equality on their maps
And it also depends on the use and scale of the map - a big official map will have more detail and illustration - it might have each hold's seal and possibly even an illustration to abstractly reflect the look of the city, but a practical map designed to be in an adventurer's back pocket would be basic and just use a minimal set of simple symbols.

Okay, that's a bit sarcastic, but it's important to remember that most armies at this point in time aren't huge, and their sergeants and generally seeing their banners around your camp will help you know who's on your side.
Combine with almost all signalling being very short ranged, and you'll probably be fine
Also worth remembering, a lot of the time most lords would prefer to capture a noble enemy, rather than kill them - not only does it create less of a feud, if you capture a guy and ransom him to his family, who knows, you might capture him again

Best dwarf ever, at least visually. If he hadn't been depicted as comic relief, but rather as a philosophical counter to Legolas's elf-ness (the differences were partially addressed, but Gimli was always at least slightly inferior), then dwarfdom would be in a better place today.

Watched the last Hobbit movie on TV the other day and remembered how much I liked this guy in the few scenes he had. I loved how he just rolled in and roasted the absolute shit out of Thranduil, it was so radically different from anything else in the film franchise, almost to the point that it should be considered a thematic inconsistency. He's like a player who enters a dramatic campaign and shatters all the tension and haughtiness with humor.

Made me decide I wanted to make a Dwarf Bard focused not on music but rather the art of the roast - demoralizing enemies and angering them into making mistakes with perfect shit talk.
Now it would be hard to sustain this, I'd probably just try my best to write up quips when they occur to me and insert them when I can.
