Since at 15 years old you're not gonna pick one you're happy with for all that time, get someone else to pick for you - typically getting your father to arrange a marriage, though your mother can arrange a marriage just as well.

I never said anything like that. Just that modern marriage is a proven relationship death trap. 50% fail, including the ones where both sides claimed it was perfect, thats a coinflip chance of success. This doesn't include those that stay together but dislike the circumstances which is also 50%. This leaves 25% your marriage wholly works as intended. Yeah, that's what I've been doing so far. Hell, it even worked when she played the Rogue Trader in our long-running game. (We "volunteered" her since she was the only one in our party who didn't know a thing about Warhammer at the time.) I try to get around conflict by putting her sort of in the middle of party expectation. She never gets magic items first, but never gets them last, and it's only very rarely that she'll see either a huge, specific windfall or calamity come down on her character from outside her control.
It helps that she's very wily and good at staying alive, after three years of playing she hasn't lost a character yet, in my game or anyone else's.
Twice though, I have let OOC problems regarding her spiral out of control in the name of impartiality when I really should have stepped in. The first was when one player essentially destroyed her only reward from a very long dungeon because she called him out OOC for roleplaying an absent player's character as an aggressive child molester. Needless to say, he didn't last long, and I found a way to give her a similar item very quickly without breaking the flow of the story.
The second was when the self proclaimed "party leader" and another player got a character killed and two more grievously injured by completely ignoring what the other half of the group (willingly led by my girlfriend) was doing. It devolved into a three way shouting match that I refused to mediate and almost destroyed the group.
