THIS TOO, HAS BEEN FORTIFIED!
Second for the Blood Angels
Let's start this thread with some Bingo. Today's free tile is... Tau Hate.
>>47780872
SPACE 0DIN, WITNESS ME BOSS! Iz made a Kustom Mega 'Ammer for my Orkbro.
>>47780877
Tau armor is ugly. It's not boxy enough, nor is it Knightly enough.
>Space Marines are an elite army
>T4 W1
4th for by the gods i like the exalted seeker chariot but i would gladly pay someone to put this together and paint it for me instead
>>47780902
This meme has gotten out of control.
>>47780877
Tau refuse to participate in GLORIOUS MELEE COMBAT.
>>47780867
The Hammers of Dorn strike again!
Isn't this the third thread in a row that this has been the first post?
Is mathhammer worth doing? it seems to be completely off base of simulations that i do with the actual dice
anyone seen how the new bases were made in china?
>>47780910
>"X is a Y army" is a meme
>only posted once per general
>>47780934
"Mathhammer"-ing your force isn't a bad idea, as long as you understand that it shows the general trend of your army rather than how it will actually play.
For example, despite the fact that mathematically my Plasma Cannon/Power Scourge Helbrute is not efficient, it consistently earns back more than twice its points in every game I play because of how I use it, terrain placement, and dumb luck.
>>47780934
It's good to know the relative chance of something happening and to see what the average result will be over time (by assuming rolls of 3-4).
For example, you wouldn't bet much on a 12 inch charge because mathhammer says it'll average 6-8. But mathhammer also shows you that if you want to be absolutely safe, you should do a 2" charge.
>>47780954
It's a meme, you dip.
>>47780854
Sister of battle models when?
I can't believe that it takes 60 multi-meltas in the game to fucking shoot down a damn plane. At least 1 in every 5 sister would be able to land a hit in real battles. Same thing with riptides, why can it be wounded by infantry flashlights? It should get +2 to BS and Toughness.
>>47780854
Tau players are reasonable people who r not bad!
>>47780954
How is it not a meme once it's been posted 89% of all generals?
>>47780945
That's old news and got a lot of anger on forums.
At least the cargo boxes aren't made in china. I'd avoid the chinese products from now on. The lowered price isn't worth the quality drop.
>>47780959
>>47780972
thank you i was using it to see the reliability of my friends ravengaurd fucking me in the ass with its DS charge without scatter formation
>>47780979
>>47780989
>they don't realize that post was just the same meme applied to memes instead of armies
X and Y are used to describe [insert X] memes, guys...
Working on a shitty stormtrooper army. What none-blue color schemes look good on them? I have been thinking of red/black/gold or red/white/green.
>>47781039
>I have been thinking of CRAWLING IN MY RED AND BLACK or Christmas
Just go full edge and stick it to the filthy knife ears.
>>47781039
Burt Reynolds.
Black Red.
>>47781099
Oh I'm sure they're a delightful bunch when they're off duty.
>>47781142
They probably cover puddles with their jackets so Eldar females can walk over them.
>>47780894
It's shit, anon, you just stuck a KMB on a stick.
>>47781099
>Inverted version of pic related
I never knew I needed a start collecting box for Scions till today. Thanks, anon. This will go great with my Phantoms
>>47781210
I bet it's akward when it's time to punch the clock and start killing each other.
>>47781238
That's exactly the point anon. It's just the Nob big choppa with the choppa removed and replaced with the KMB from a Deff Dread.
>>47781039
I'm painting some Stormtroopers right now. Went with brown/tan with a red faceplate. Looks pretty good I guess, supposed to be a desert theme.
Question, can I take a Daemon Lord formation from the decurion, without taking the decurion to slot in another Greater Daemon?
>>47781793
no, they are in a command slot but not a dataslate like the 4 deamon prince formation
WHERE ARE THE FUCKING RULES
>>47780867
>>47781793
Nope. If you're running mono god, Daemonic Incursion is the best way though. Except maybe Tzeentch if you're trying to run 4 Heralds, Fateweaver, and a Prince.
>>47781855
>>47781824
Darn. Is there a way to add in another Greater Daemon, or do I just have to ally with myself? I have Karios and Heralds right now.
>>47781889
double cad or drop fateweaver or drop the heralds
>>47781825
it drops this week so maybe we'll get leaks friday/thursday
>>47781905
Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm pretty new. How do I double CAD? Do I just like, make 2 lists?
>>47781354
Bleedin' cogheads.
>>47780925
>Onager
>Fusion Blades
>Farsight
>not running blank/flamer/fusion blaster crisis suits so you can CHARGE THE ENEMY IN HONORABLE SAMURAI DUELS
>not running kroot to shoot people and then slice them into salami
>>47781913
Take a minimum of two HQs and four troops in separate detachments. Boom, two CADs.
>>47781913
It's one list, but yeah. 2 HQ's and 4 Troops. CAD is how real men play.
>>47781928
Ah, okay, thank you very much! I'll post my list in a second.
Are tau fun?
>>47781947
only if you do
>>47781921
>>47781921
We have a local player who runs a Crisis Suits Commander with Fusion Blades. Works tons better than you'd expect on anything that doesn't punch like a truck.
i the remegades and heretics list why is a medusa tabk cheaper than the basalisk. but the Medusa artillery carriage is significantly more expensive than the earthshaker one?
is it a typo or are the IG ones like that too.
>>47781960
shorter range, direct fire only, and on a hilariously vulnerable chassis, mainly
I just watched independence day and I cant help but imagine
"We come in pea-"
"Filthy Xenos!"

Daemon CAD
Karios Fateweaver (300)

Herald of Khorne (145) 2 Lesser Rewards, Exalted Loci of Wrath, Juggernaut
Nurglings (45) 3 Bases
Pink Horrors of Tzeentch (95) 10, 1 Iridesent Horror
Flesh Hounds of Khorne (240) 15 Hounds
Screamers of Tzeentch (125) 5 Screamers
Blood Slaughterer of Khorne (135) Impaler
DAY 2
Secondary CAD
HQ: Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury (330) Lash of Khorne, Warp Forged Armor, Skullreaver, 2 Greater Rewards
Nurglings (45) 3 Nurglings
Pink Horrors (90) 10 Pink Horrors
Flamers of Tzeentch (69) 3 Flamers
Flamers of Tzeentch (69) 3 Flamers
This is for a tournament, 1250 Day 1, add 600 points day 2. What do you guys think?
>>47781443
I really like the red faceplate, but I think I will go with a black body and silver outlines.
>>47782002
drop a gift on the khorne herald 1 ap2 weapon is good enough, pink horrors don't need champs, bloodthrister can't take warp forge armor unless you mean armor of scorn but then you can't also take the skullreaver
looks alright but you lack ranged attacks or anti flyers
>>47782065
Gave him 2, because I thought 1 axe replaced his hellblade for CC, just learned it doesn't. I have a pink champ for the 4 result, so Fateweaver, or the Blood Thirster doesn't Daemonic Instability test on a 3d6, and the Bloodthirster comes with that armor stock. Karios is my anti-air with BS6, and all the Tzeentch spells.
Independent characters can join units from other detachments, right? So I could stick Coteaz with a bunch of super shooty dudes from a non-Inquisition codex and use his special intercept rule?
>>47780874
For Sanguinius!
What's everyone's idea of a fair Tau or Necron list that you would want to fight?
Star Phantoms 1850
Librarian: Level 2, Stave
Techmarine, bike, combi-grav
Elites
2 X Sternguard, 7 w/ combi-plas, Drop Pod
Command Squad, bikes, 3 grav guns, apothecary
Troops
4 X 5 Man Tactical Squads, combi melta, melta gun, drop pod
Heavy Support
Fire Raptor
Relic Whirlwind Scorpius
Relic Whirlwind Scorpius
current idea is sticking the librarian in one sternguard squad, and rolling on librarius for null zone and murderizing deathstars on the hail of destruction turn
>>47782147
Melee tau as described above could be fun for both sides.
>>47782147
I run ark wing, it has been nerfed into the fucking ground. CAD with 2-3 ghost arks, 2 catacomb command barges, some annihilation barges and some doomsday arks.
>>47781981
surely being direct fire only on an immobile model is a big disadvantage too.
it just seems odd that i can pretty much get earthshakers for the price of 2 medusas. But mounted on a chinera and the Medusa is the cheaper option.
>>47782092
i wouldn't worry about the 3d6 result, you're more likely to get 7 or nothing happens. also you got fateweaver so you can reroll the warpstorm result.
for the herald that's true also the hellblade isn't a specialist weapon but i usually just give mine a greater aetherblade for +1 strength and mastercrafted. instant death on 6s is alright but not worth it unless you know you're fighting enemies with multiple wounds.
>>47782129
only if they're battle brothers.
>>47782177
av 13 wall is still bull against certain lists though
>>47782147
breachers in d fishes:^)
1850 Dark Eldar
Realspace Raiders
Lhamean (10)
3x 5 Trueborn (205)
3 Blaster / 2 Dark Lance
Venom + Splinter Cannon
3x 10 Kabalite (170)
9 Rifle / 1 Splinter Cannon
Raider + Aethersails / Splinter Racks
3x 5 Scourge (120-140)
4 Haywire Blaster
4 Heat Lance
4 Blaster
2x 6 Reaver (146)
2 Caltrop / 2 Heat Lance
2 Caltrop / 2 Blaster
I have about 1797 points used, I wasn't sure if I should throw more upgrades on the Raiders or not. Or if I should take anything off them.
I would use Webway Portals, but I don't know how to get them to work properly. Can you still have units embark on transports pe-game? My LGS claims the new FAQ destroyed this, especially with Allies.
Decided to try and go with as much firepower as possible, covering as many bases as possible.
>>47782214
heat lances are alright but i think you need to get within 9" to get the full effects, might be better off with just haywire blasters since they have the best range
>>47782040
I struggle getting black to 'pop'.
how should i kit out a scout sentinel for heralds of ruin?
>>47782254
I do dark grey with black washes, it looks better than when I paint black by itself
>>47781834
[Decimation Intensifies]
>>47782214
You better reserve your heat lances for reavers. Only they have needed mobility to use them.
>>47782332
>special weapons on reavers
how about no
when they're jinking nearly every turn, what the fuck is the point
>>47782332
>>47782382
I wouldn't know much about them in terms of jinking. I've only played about 6 games, ever.
I only like the Heat Lances for being a decent mixture of anti-vehicle and anti-personnel, being S6 and AP2, but yeah, 9" Melta is risky business from what I recall.
>>47782452
>I wouldn't know much about them in terms of jinking
they get +1 to jink, and considering they have a 5+ save they're gonna be jinking every turn
>>47782382
The point is that life as Dark Eldar is pain and you work with the best you have. Sometimes the best you have is... not much.
>>47782254
Pop is created by contrast, so you'd have to do some highlighting or blending with lighter colors like grey or white. If you just do black and leave it at that it won't pop unless you paint some silver or gold details on it or add hazard stripes or some other kind of contrast, like highlights.
>>47782483
If I take the blasters and lances off the Reavers, I'll have ~93 points to use. Anything I should use it on? I could upgrade the extra Scourges into Solarite or make a 4th unit of them with only Shardcarbines.
>>47780908
I feel you, bro, that thing is a nightmare.
I'll paint mine on my own, but I'm not new to commission painting.
If you don't want to paint it yourself, then do it. Give it to a pro.
>>47780854
Plastic Rough Riders, when?
>>47782678
after chaos marines get a decent upgrade but before sisters get plastic
>>47782270
I'm running mine with a heavy flamer. I figure scout deploy and ignores cover template is good for small tables with lots of terrain.
>>47782521
I do add highlights. Usually a medium grey and a blue-grey. Just doesnt ever seem to look as fun as colors.
Tier 1 grot codex when?
Newb question but I want to be clear, to enter melee combat you must charge? You can't just move in to base contact? I mean that makes perfect sense since it's not like you'd just walk up and say "I SHALL FIGHT THEE!" during a bloody war.. but I want to be sure.
Also do Sweeping Advances only apply to melee combat?
>>47783000
you are correct, in other wargames you can do that. in malifaux for example you have range on weapons like 2" so you can walk up and smack someone without declaring a charge
>>47783000
Believe it or not, it is possible to get into close combat without either involved unit charging.
>>47782802
hot damn.
So my local GW has a dude doing a HoR event thinger, It's using the legacy lists because the current round of lists is still playtesting and whatnot. I'm thinking of doing an Ig+Inq list and wondering what to shove into it.
Things i have to work with/have ordered (these can be converted or used to count as something else)
1 Canonness (possible inquisitor)
1 Sister superior (possible inquisitor)
1 steel legion squad (1 sarge, 1 missile hwt, 7 lasgun dudes)
1 steel legion commander with bolt pistol/power sword
1 steel legion plasmaman
1 box of scions(and i'm likely to get the start collecting tempestus box in a bit depending on it's rules)
1 box cadian squad+1 box cadian command (trying to not do standard cadians but i do have these bits for resources)
4 of the 5dude chaos cultman box (20 dudes with 5 poses, three autogun poses, two autopistol/ccw poses)
1 box shadow warriors/sisters of the watch from fantasy (probably conversion fodder, the lead sister of the watch is a possible inquisitor conversion)
1 box black ark corsairs (conversion fodder as well, probably make decent carapace pistol/ccw dudes)
2 enginseers (one metal, one the new plastic)
1 sentinel box
I also have a box of space marine scouts and sniper scouts which can maybe be useful for something somewhere at some point?
And finally i have the contents of a deathwatch overkill box
that's not all the bits and kits i have but i just listed stuff that i think could be potentially helpful/useful for the list.
>>47783232
whoops, forgot steel legion squad also had a grenade launcher fella, so instead of 7 lasguns it's 6 and a grenade launcher
>>47783000
You can't move into base contact through moving anyway you have to stay a minimum distance away. You can only get into base contact by charging.
first time trying to paint yellow...and on a black spray primer...how the hell do I do this without it looking like a THIN YOUR PAINTS public service announcement? should I put something like celestra grey on top of the black first as a base?
>>47783504
why would you use a black primer if you want to do a bright color? using celestra grey then averland sunset should help but you'll probably still end up with a pale yellow
Complete newbie here, is something like this a good buy to get started?
I'm interested most in Chaos Space Marines.

>>47783537
trying to do imperial fists with yellow shoulders and heads and black armor...im thinking this might have been a bad idea
>>47783539
Just buy the whole Dark Vengeace set.
You get all that, a ton more, and a copy of the main rulebook.
anyone have any good alternative models for libbies? want something slightly more interesting than the current plastic ones
>>47783580
DV Librarian with the left armor or shoulder replaced
or covert any model into a librarian with guitar wire, some green stuff, and a bunch of bits
>>47783579
Are the other models useful? I could do that if the Dark Vengeance set is useful.
>>47783580
Dolled up regular marines with grey knight bits.
>>47783660
The common suggestion is to turn the Dark Angels into renegade marines, which mechanically would play the same as CSM but will have a very jarring aesthetic difference. It depends on how far you want to go in remodelling them to suit your taste, and how good you'd be at said remodelling.
Gameplay wise the units are alright and varied enough to help you to learn a lot of rules quickly.
>>47783660
Yes they are.
You get the chosen (chaos space marines), 20 cultists (great objective holders and budget troops choice), a chaos lord (not the greatest loadout, but cool model), a helbrute (a bit of a wildcard, could be great, usually isn't), and a special character aspiring champion. The special character is awesome in smaller games, but gets outclassed in larger games where a Chaos Lord can do a better job.
and you also get a second force of Dark Angels. You can trade these with a friend, sell them on ebay, use them as test models, or if your modeling skills are up to it, convert them to chaos.
>>47783687
>>47783695
Alright. Ordered one. I should be getting it next week.
New Kroot stuff/Kroot supplement when?
>Friends want to do 2k games
>They keep telling me they'd prefer I run a gladius
>Decide to make my aux choice be a bunch of sniper scouts
>"That's not even good anon, bring the cheese!"
I never knew my friends were like this... who WANTS to be hit with grav spam???
>>47771998
It's that its very close to how the imperium of man in terms of banding together to thrive in a universe of endless fuckery, only that
1. they decided that anyone willing can join the party bus
2. They are constantly improving tech, whereas imperium is constantly losing tech and wargearto the blood ravens
It would be really nice to see more alien races that are also benefiting from tau's technology at some point, not just mech suits and "oh kroot can fire pulse rounds now"
>>47783852
>I never knew my friends were like this... who WANTS to be hit with grav spam???
I know a guy like this at my FLGS. He always wants to face the hardest of the hard lists. He measures himself by his ability to take them on.
Mind you, he plays Eldar so that plays into it I suppose.
>>47783852
Same here.
I usually make fun and/or fluffy lists that I think can get a good game against my current opponent because while I do have about 12000 points of Space Marines, I don't really want to steamroll the several Chaos, Orks and 'nids players at my club.
Friends and clubmates asked me to go full WAAC so I brought Superfriends for one game, Skyhammer with Ravenwing the other and pure Ravenwing the last game.
And back to fun games it was.
>>47783852
They want you to start the cheese arms race.
Once you bring OP shit once it'll always be just cause for them to always bring their OP shit against you, and every time you'll complain about them bringing OP shit they'll reference that one time you brought cheese against them and act like that makes it fair. You'll never be able to undo it either.
>>47783919
Don't forget the cool hats they gave all the vespid leaders. The vespid leaders were so taken by the snazziness that the never wanted to take the hats off and also decided to obey the tau forever.
>>47783960
You're one paranoid fuck, Jesus Christ.
>>47783960
The only winning move is not to get in the crab bucket in the first place.
>>47783951
The Necron player I could understand...
But the Tyranid player and the Ork player? Blows my mind.
>>47783954
I don't want to steamroll them either, so I agreed to run the gladius but my devs have heavy bolters and whatnot. Trying to run it at the way I'd like to see it instead of the way they want it to be.
>>47783960
Possibly. Reminds me of when I used to play a lot of Starcraft and my friend always wanted me to run the cheese builds for him to play against.
>>47783963
the vespid are a good example of what I want to see, the kroot could do with some more technology from the tauthey could also drop the price on vespid, £50 for a full sized unit is just stupid and all the ones on ebay are more paint than model
Ordered set of DE Kabalite warriors while I wait for DE Start collecting thing to be released. I forgot to buy fucking glue, fuck. Why is being retarded so hard.
Advice on this list please.
CAD
Tank Comd - LRBT sponson HB
2 LRBY - Sponson HB
3 Storm Trooper sqds n Chimera with autocannon. 2 meltas.
3 hydra.
6 armoured sentinals with autocannons
3 scouts sentinals with lascannons
Ive had negative comments about thw LRBT but no explanation as to why they are bad
>>47783989
>all the ones on ebay are more paint than model
Is that why ebay "pro-painted" is so expensive? Because you're really paying for the enormous amounts of expensive GW paint they've put on the model?
>>47784000
Generally you don't want to spend points on extra weapons (sponsons etc.) on tanks with Ordinance guns, as all the other guns snapshoot if you fire the battle cannon.
Is there a more updated mega? I can't find any recent WD's or the last few chapters of the Legacy of Russ stuff on forgotten library, rho-mu's or the novel mega.
>>47783973
I had it happen to me. I don't remember how I brought something even remotely cheesey asBlood Angels, but now my friend only runs Ravenwing with 2+ rerollable cover saves and shit like it.
>>47784006
the pro painted ones look almost the same as me painting with zero experience and the doctrines of sir duncan, but they cost as much as 4x the model price
>>47783847
Nice conversion, but apparently we're getting Chaos (Tzeentch) before that.
Anyone have any more pictures Johnny, the in specific?
I gottwocoming in the mail but I don't have any backpacks that I think will fit.
Other than that post your favorite model, mine should be rather obvious, although Death Company are a close second.
>>47784217
I love this damn model.
I want to put everything on bikes because of how much I love the bike model but my friend says bikes are OP so I might not do that if they are.
>>47784217

Breacher team would come a close second, then vespids if they ever had any decent poses
>>47784265
Just don't spam grav
>>47783545
Paint brown over black, then yellow should cover fine.
Same for red and warm white
For cold white you'll want grey transition colour.
>>47784297
Also one of my favorites.
When I started the game(a little before the current Necron codex dropped), I couldn't decide whether I wanted to go with Necrons or Tau as my first army.
Skeletons and Liches were my fucking jam but Tau had some fucking awesome designs like pic related I loved thatnearlywon me over.
It was a tough choice, but in the end I decided to go withBlood Angels, since my friend and I went half/half on Shield of Baal: Deathstorm and it ended up being only like 50 bucks.
>>47784265
Bikes are bitching.
I even have a few in my Flesh Tearers army since they got that old Harley look to me. It's something with the fuel tank but I can't put my finger on it but I can't help but see it.
Has the announcement of the re-redesign of WD been hyped here already?
>>47784128
Agreed, love the look of the sleek alien tech mounted on a huge lizard, cool juxtaposition. After seeing it I'm tempted to make a bunch using the lizardmen kits, cuz fuck yah dinosaurs with guns.

Prime with chaos black
2 layers of slightly thin XV88 on every part that will become yellow
1 layer of thin tau light ochre
wash all the detail with nuln oil, let it dry for 30 mins
2-3 layers of very thin tau light ochre using an artificer brush
make sure you wash your brush very regularly (even during a layer) and mix a new thin layer on the pallet regularly aswell, otherwise some small bits will dry hidden in your brush and end up giving you a very bumpy finish which you cant remove without starting again
>>47784217
So glad I managed to dig up the blister with the metal chaplain that I bought like 15 years ago. Took me almost a day sifting through storage boxes, but it was worth it.

"AAAH, AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS I'M FREE! IT'S TIME TO MANGLE HERETICS!!"
When is your next game? Who are you playing against?
Mine is next Saturday against my friend that finally bit the bullet and built 1000 points of Necrons.
>>47784563
Thursday hopefully, only had 2 beginner matches so far (one of them against helldrake, chaos prince and obliterators in a 750 pt match) and thursday is my LGS game night
should i put my name/padlock/something on my model case? I might need to be away from the store for a few mins due to a medical thing and taking a crusade case with me would be a little annoying
>>47784217
my ace company command vanquisher
this guy performs
>>47784615
sleep tight tanker
>>47784615
>why do you always take that vanquisher anon? It's not worth the points, bs3, yadadadad
>absolute scenes when I'm penning all the time and performing like a champ
Glad someone else loves this tank. Stay stronk.
>>47784581
personally i put my name (first and last) on the front and back of my case as well as a hefty padlock.
>>47784563
>When is your next game?
No idea. I only ever really played in a group with two close friends.
One currently hates the game since he plays 'nids/DA and gets stomped just about every game he plays against me (BA, GK, Ad Mech, and/or SoB).
The other is in fucking Army boot camp and won't be back until sometime in August. I hope he learns to play strategically since he couldn't before.
Both suck complete ass at army building and tactics in general though, and so I must have something like a 95% win rate without ever bringing on the cheese.
>>47784615
I have a dreadnought like that. He was the first model I ever built and he always seems to win entire games for me.That or he explodes from a single snap shot Multimelta from 24 inches away turn one.
Still my lil baby though.
What're peoples thoughts on using the Deathwatch Dataslate to add some extra punch to a SM 200pt GW killteam list?
>>47784563
Next Saturday. Bringing 1,250 points of Guardsmen with a few vehicles against mechanized DE. I like playing mechanized but he isn't ready for a rematch just yet.
First time using foot sloggers outside of a >300 point game and psykers in general so it should be fun. I hope I can get Misfortune so I can see an unlucky Raider wrecked by mass Lasguns.
>>47784217
My chaplain. Not innovative, but I'm loving him.
>>47784701
The entire Dataslate can add in some funky Wargear options.
Some of the guys like the BA or the RG could ass in some major ass kicking to any list for relatively cheap, and the guy with the Frag Cannon can do some SERIOUS damage by himself.
Would it be reasonable to let a tau player replace stealth (forests) with stealth (ruins)?
I really want to run a vespid and kroot based army, but vespid are only really viable jumping from building to building and would never benefit from the formation, also all 40k games at my LGS are in cities that dont have any forests at all
>>47784786
I realise i worded that like shit, the vespid already have stealth ruins, it doesnt become shrouded and kroot dont get it at all
>>47784447
>doesn't do something because "my friend said it was cheesy"
>has a 4 grav command squad
Honestly bikers that aren't DA or WS aren't even OP.
>>47784786
I don't think it'd be too OP, but you got to remember that ruins do give a 4+ cover save as opposed to forests which only provide a 5+ (I think this is the case at least). I'd talk it over with you opponent before hand.
In my group were cool with replacing all the Stealth and Shrouded with stipulations with just Stealth and Shrouded by themselves, but we're a pretty lax group.
>>47784807
4 grav command squad isn't nearly as cheesy as grav bike spam.
>>47784786
No. That would be OP and goes against the whole point of the forests version. It's to make them as good as ruins when ruins aren't available.
>>47784786
>also all 40k games at my LGS are in cities that dont have any forests at all
Then you don't need the rule. That's like asking if you can just count all your S7 guns as S8 since nobody plays with anything but AV14.
>>47784217
I'm happy with my Land Raider.
It has flaws, but people nearby always come to look at it. Make me proud.
>>47784835
stealth (forests) in a map with forests gives the kroot an edge over other units that dont have it, this is the train of thought behind my suggestion, the formation is useless if you get zero benefit from it (supporting fire would barely be worth a mention, the vespid would be far away from the kroot after turn 2 or 3)
I'm trying to play tau but not just being a cookie cutter suit tau and actually use the alien races, vespid are very expensive for what they do and a very vulnerable, I dont want to be that guy but i also feel like i'll just end up intentionally gimping myself with very expensive units (money wise and points wise)
>>47782214
It ONLY destroyed this with allies, you can still start the game in your dedicated transports.
>>47784875
I can definitely see why they'd do double takes at that beautiful bastard, man.
That's fuckin' sexy.
>>47784880
You're being That Guy right fucking now, insisting on free 3++ saves with the Ignores Cover race and acting like Vespid are so overpriced and terrible when the reality is that they're pretty much average, it's just that Tau are so retarded that average units look like wastes of time.
>>47784563
Not sure when, I moved away from my flgs and the nearest one is an hour and a half drive away on the highway and no FB group for the community. Debating if I want to spend the gas.
>>47784880
Vespid and Kroot are perfectly fine units for non-Tier 1 play.
An entire army made out of Kroot and Vespid has much larger problems than not getting Stealth (Ruins), and you're entire army probably isn't just Kroot and Vespid.
>>47784915
>investing 800+ points into an army that cant threaten anything over AV11, has no armor saves and is leadership 7 for its bulk
>300-400 points are single wound single shot that is no more powerful than fire warriors but at half the range, its only redeeming thing is AP3
>that guy
pretty much every army has access to ignores cover and can still simply just assault my formation with almost zero fucking threat because S4 AP6 snap shots is fucking laughable, when the alternatives are having permanent 2++ cover save and BS5 spam across the board with shit like OSC, this is far from being that guy
What would be better for a newbie to get into the game, learn the rules and get a feel for battlefield tactics?
Astartes or Militarum?
>>47780854
not sure at this OP pic, m8.
new thread?
>>47784999
Space marines are probably more forgiving. They also have more varied unit types which may help you learn the rules.
>>47784999
Astartes.
They're a standby faction that's very beginner friendly with a ton of viable tactics and variations.
Plus, there's far more models with a stat line equivalent to them than Militarum, at least when it comes to the meta.
>>47785012
>Just over halfway to the bump limit
>"new thread?"
Absolutely not.
>>47784984
I keep writing responses and then deleting them, because there's just so much stupid shit going on in your post. There's the idea that people shouldn't be allowed to assault you without getting gutted by snap shots. There's the fact that you're too stupid to keep your units near each other for supporting fire. There's the fact that you think your decent units should be buffed to hell because at least you aren't running OSC. There's the fact that you're complaining that Vespid guns are only strength 5.
Your initial request was innocuous enough, assuming you were okay with massive buffs for pretty much every other army. Now, you're definitely That Guy.
Are banestormdoomhammerblades considered cheese? I bought one like an idiot because I loved the model and now want to build an army around it.
Was thinking an armored IG cad with artillerry support and a SM first company task force to deepstrike downfield, get a hammer and anvil thing going on. Or maybe one of the Blood Angels Archangel formations since I've already got a furioso.
>>47785048
Generally any Superheavy is considered to be a kinda shitty thing to bring in any regular game of 40k, unless you let you opponent know way ahead.
>>47785034
>>47785021
Alright. Can I use the Betrayal at Calth units in 40k? I think that would be by far the cheapest way to start a collection, even though I don't think the marines in that kit don't come with special or heavy weapons, which does suck.
>>47785048
>baneblades cheese
Baneblades aren't even considered viable most of the time
>>47785068
Yes you can.
Tactical Marines are Tactical Marines, while the Cataphractii Terminators and the Contemptor Dreadnought have rules in the Angels of Death supplement.
>>47783545
add skull/ceramite white on first, then layer up with your averland sunset etc.
>>47785068
Yup, they're all fine. And they do come with special and heavy weapons, though not every option (think you get flamers, meltaguns and plasmaguns; and heavy bolters and missile launchers).
>>47785062
Well yeah I'm not going to ambush little kids who want a game with their DV boxes. I'm just wondering how the baneblade is generally viewed compared to knights or stormsurges.
>>47785097
It comes with Heavy Bolters?
Fucking hell why did I buy a second dev box yesterday.
>>47785081

>>47784297

>>47785098
Honestly, I think you should be fine bringing the Baneblade if you like the model and playstyle that much.
Just tell your opponent about it beforehand, if he doesn't have enough anti-tank responses, just let him designate a couple units and pretend they have missile launchers instead of flamers or something.
>>47785068
All the BaC models can be used in any army that uses a Chapter found in the Vanilla Space Marine codex as a base (pretty much any chapter aside from Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Grey Knights).
Tactical Squads and the Chaplain work just like they do in the regular codex, while the rules for the Contemptor Dreadnought and Cataphractii Terminators are found in the Angels of Death supplement. If you don't want to use the supplement just run the Terminators as regular Terminators and the Contemptor as a normal Dreadnought.

I assemble then paint but it has been a bitch to do some models like dreadnoughts and tacticals.
>>47784217
How did you go about finding this magnificent bastard? I've been hunting Ebay for him for a long time but I've never had any luck.
>>47785295
Funny enough, I first off I posted that I'll never find one on ebay.
Then I searched on ebay for "brother craig warhammer" out of desperation, and to my surprise I actually found one (which I promptly bought). This was in itself extremely unlikely since most auction posters don't know the models name.
By the time I returned to the thread someone had posted a link to ANOTHER auction with a one. I bought up that one too since I wouldn't know when I'd get another chance to get another for a friend.
So basically you just have to get lucky or as around if anyone's seen one pop up on ebay.
Good luck anon.

I want to do DE Kabal warriors or whatevet is their name but I forgot to order glue too. I will order start collecting thing + paints once its out so now Im wondering if I should assemble it now and paint later or just wait few weeks for my paints and then put it together
Tempestus Scions box has been on the GW's best sellers list since their release. What are the chances they get a new kit with a new pose for the plasma gun because I'm tired of all my Scions armed with a plasma gun cradling it in one arm.
>>47785295
There's always these two if you're willing to pay out the ass for one. Other than that you'll just have to sift through ebay weekly or ask about in threads till someone posts a link to one.

The Kabalites would definitely require glue, but you can do the Space Marine trick of not gluing their firearms on until you've at least basecoated them.

this can't be serious, the overheads for stores warrants at least one minimum wage peon for the manager, no way the manager would be able to cope with inventory, sales, game nights, newbies on thier own without ending up being a serial killers

Hopefully GW will go bankrupt, sell the IP to a decent company and there will be peace.

In guard medusa as towed artillery is 100 (plus whatever if you actually want something to tow it) as self-propelled it's 140 (+5 for bastion breachers in both cases)
Earthshaker as towed is 75 as a basilisk it's 125
>>47785699
> I think he's been able to hire two people in to help
come to think of it, i've only started collecting recently but my LGS has 3 staff, I'm now wondering how long those 2 non managers have been employed there
>>47785703
Only just started collecting last month, however I do accountancy for an auction that employs 30 people
Simply considering the overheads (mainly in the form of ground rates, which depend on the location of your shop and how much the local council decide to charge you this year), dumping the entire stores workload on one manager and no workers sounds extremely detrimental to the mood of the manager, which would extend into poorer sales, the cost of hiring just one worker would not be an unreasonable investment in the context of how much a store costs to run
>>47785717
Thanks for the offer man but I'm just about as West in West Coast of the US as you can be without falling off a pier.
>>47785743
You're right. But GW doesn't give a shit. They care about marginal profits, not overall profits, or quality of gameplay or staff.
The current GW leadership is a bunch of greedy and stupid cunts, which is a very bad combination.
What's Alpharius's game with these fuckers? Are they going to turn on the Ultramarines, or are they named that way to trick the Ultras into gunning down their own allies later on, or are they actually there to watch the Ultramarines back in some grand ploy to support Cypher's mission?
Where's the trick, anons?
>>47785780

Is That home brew codex actually fun to play with/against or did the just boost Orks to Eldar tier?
>>47782147
Tau..just don't spam heavy suits, like 'Tides, 'Surges, 'Keels ext. Everything else I find pretty balanced, they don't frighten me much. I actually really like Tau players that bring Hammerheads and Piranhas and shit.
Necrons, however..jesus I don't know where to start. I'd rather play a Eldar Scatterbike+Wraith list than a Decurion. I just can't kill them! I smash into them with 9 Spawn and 80 Mutants (Renegades and Heretics), they just send in the Wraiths. I try to blow them away with artillery, and they just stand right back up! Idk man..maybe, Warrior-spamy, a Monolith or two, Destroyer heavy, no Wraiths or Tomb Blades..idk. I still wouldn't have much fun.
>>47784875
I can tell you picked the right legion, that looks bloody amazing. are the eagles from the brass etch kits?
>>47785804
It basically just gave orks some of their 3rd edition rules back and some new melee weapon options. Other than that there's some other small changes throughout units and the 'nauts got fucked around with a lot.
>>47785799
Shouldn't be too hard to find two of the buggers. Should be only around $15 bucks which I guess ain't too painful.
Sucks they're plastic though. Kills my plan to use the guys to work on my painting skill as I won't be able to use Acetone or CSC to strip paint like I had planned.
I guess I could go back to Simple Green but that stuff just doesn't have the power of the others. I rarely have it chew through primer.
Cheers anyway anon.
>>47785581
Does GW actually do market research, or did they just pull those numbers out of their asses? I have a hard time believing that such a tiny fraction of their consumers actually play the game, and I have an even harder time believing that more people wouldn't play if they didn't just fuck the rules so badly so consistently.
If they're a model/hobby company and not a game company, why are their products almost exclusively sold in game stores? Why do they charge such ludicrously exorbitant prices for rules if they don't actually care about the rules/game side?
>>47785866
>In their 2015 Financial Report, they stated:
"The Group does not undertake research activities."
:)
I'm serious the last management cycle was actually retarded. The new CEO is making some good choices though. Hope exists.
>>47785886
So their "20% of consumers are gamers" thing is just made up? Rowntree was at that meeting. Why do you think things are going to improve?
>>47785911
>So their "20% of consumers are gamers" thing is just made up?
In all likelihood, yes.
>Why do you think things are going to improve?
Because if things get any worse they will go bankrupt.
>>47785931
>Because if things get any worse they will go bankrupt.
Half year reports are the same as the previous half year report, dividend in april was 4% which is the highest its been since jan 2012, unless they pull an age of sigmar on 40k they are in an alright spot right now
>>47785931
>Because if things get any worse they will go bankrupt.
Didn't you read the article? GW is making money. They're profitable, and things are looking up. That's the problem. Success proves you're right about everything, and corporations are inherently geared towards short-term thinking.
GW has no impetus to solve it's customer relations problems because staff changes have fixed the bottom line. They're already making money. They'll make money now and they'll make money next year. Fixing their approach to the game might fix things, but it will definitely cost money.
TL;DR they said a thing and sales went up, so it must be true.
>>47786026
They're profitable but their market share is shrinking incredibly fast and people are slowly leaving the hobby. Their overall profits may be stable now, but they're not playing the long game.
How do I git gud at painting /tg/? What are some good guides to read/watch? Any lists of recommended brush types to own and variety of paints? My backlog is growing every month but my lack of painting skills just kills my motivation to do anything about it.
>>47786069
>They're profitable but their market share is shrinking incredibly fast
This could be attributable to the 10% overnight drop in share prices in January, they stated their profit over last year was down 7% but still paid out dividends
They could have also generated more shares which would achieve the same thing, but i have zero evidence to prove that
>>47786094

I feel like this will end up being the case against my friend that got in to W40K with me. We've only played one game but he wasn't aggressive enough so I basically just sat back and mowed down his Cultists with my SM. Eventually when he did get closer I just charged him to finish off his units. We both have a lot to learn (but finding a time to play is impossible, requested time off work like 2 weeks from now so we can get a day to fuck around) but so far the only thing going for him is he used to place dice against crackheads while I have piss poor luck.

Can we all stop and appreciate how much better GW's become at actual models? Apart from finecast, I've been blown away by some of the new Tau models. The mouldlines have gone from "fucking abysmal" to "I thought I hadn't trimmed that piece?" There are still mouldlines, but GW's creatively placed them in line with edges and they're softer so don't show up as much.
>>47785804
I found it fun since I didn't just put models on the table then pick them back up again.
My opponent found it less so since he didn't bother to read my list when I offered and found out first hand that my warboss had a power sword.
>>47786372
Before I even bought my first model I read about how to remove them efficiently from the sprue, how to scrape off moldlines, how to thin paints, how to prime, which files to get etc.
When the resources are there and you're too lazy to make use of them, you should expect people to pull you up on what are frankly shoddily assembled models.
I don't really want to judge too hard because it seems you're just into the wargaming side rather than the modelling, but you might as well just use toy army men proxy armies and assign a datacard for each one, if you're going to be so lax. tbqh senpai.
Are there any models that have sculpted armor like the sanguinary guard but without the high collar armor (not sure what that part is called.)

Hopscotch is a game but a rather sad hobby.

>>47786469
I wasn't him, but its not rare that people start out the hobby as an impulse purchase, he's also not even painted the model yet so its pretty fucking easy to trim the excess and mouldlines off after glueing

>They're profitable but their market share is shrinking incredibly fast and people are slowly leaving the hobby
While their market share is certainly decreasing, there isn't much they can do about it. A huge factor in that is that the market is growing, esspecially because of things like X-wing. And, for once, GW is right about something: they aren't just a games company, but a hobby one. Now Kirby, in his infinite retardation, interpreted this to mean only a models company, which led to many of the issues that Rountree is now trying to fix. But at the very core, warhammer is fundamentally different than X-wing: it requires time, it requires painting, assembling models, etc. on top of playing the actual game. Many people who are picking up X-wing aren't necessarily interested in that type of commitment. The only way GW could get into that market is by reducing and simplfying the game and hobby, which as AoS shows, isn't something that pleases people.
Now they are trying with the new paint and play thing, but they honestly can't do much besides making the game better to attract the people who are going to X-wing for a solid ruleset, and all rumors and recent actions indicate GW is trying to do just that.
And as for leaving the hobby, it really impossible to say. GW does not do research, at least at the moment, but I could see that changing under the new management. But, given all we know, such as sales increasing, as well as GW being the number one wargame company/ model based company by far, with X-wing a distant second, I would doubt they are really experiencing a substantial loss.

If I could, I'd play Black Templars with as much conversions as possible, Sword Brethren as veteran squads, etc.
But I'm a student, have to pay for food, have to pay for the gym, etc.
I can't even actually afford to play 40k, but I made some sacrifices to be able to buy any models at all.
Looking over IA2 Dreadnoughts:
Chaplain: A venerable that spends 10 points for pseudo-zealot, plus access to a S6 AP3 flamer or going "furioso style" with two ccws. Neat, but with an outdated 2A pretty shit.
Siege: Regular dread with flamestorm cannon, heavy flamer and extra armour for 20 points. Would be a bargain without the 2A caveat.
Mortis: Two long ranged weapons (with optional Skyfire) and no AP2 so number of attacks is meaningless? Now we're talking! Not as good as the contempt variant below, but neat regardless.
Contemptor: No units, 2 attacks, only BS4, costs 5 points more than Angels of Death variant. As much as build flexibility -should- be great, the Kheres is pretty much the best gun, and two fist variant has -less attacks- than the AoD one. Ugh.
Contemptor Mortis: Twin Kheres for slight discount over taking twin Kheres on the non-Mortis. Also Skyfire. Also 2A doesn't matter.
Not BS5 like AoD, but hey can't have everything.

They're good terminators if not a bit more limited in options, only issue is that terminators aren't that great in 40k right now.
They're fine if you're not interested in taking only super competitive options though.
>>47787250
Too bad I'm not at home, i would have post the PDF.
In short, the leader is Belisarius the Improper.
He was a normal legionnaire that simply did his job. After the Horus Heresy, he grow some distance between he and his legion. He praised Slaanesh like anyone else, but he thinks they should be still a legion, like the Word Bearers or the Iron Warrior.
He talked of this with two of his comrades, and he discovered his true blessing. He may be weak compared with other leaders, but he has the silver tongue.
He escape the Eye of Terror very early with 12 other legionnaire, with a small ship they manage to steal. For that reason they show very little corruption and still use the old colours.
From there, they just travel from planet to planet, escaping the imperial fleets because of their very small size, mostly on the board of the eye.
They actually meet some rogue Noise Marines during their trips, which he convinced to follow him thanks to his charisma.
Because of that charisma, they use a lot of cultists and renegades. They usually go on a planet and rise armies to pillage and raid, and then use this confusion to escape once the imperial fleet arrive.
Other than that, they are obsessed to replicate their old ways, but they end up making parodies.
They Cursed Blades for example, basically Palatine Blades, are warriors that praise the way of the sword of their old legion, but are not even nearly as skilled. So they use dark rituals, drugs and tricks to scratch the level of skill of their old warriors.
There is more, but that's the general idea.
>>47787313

Cataphractii
Non-Hammer Assault Terminators / Tactical Terminators

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just take them apart again because I can't quite get good angles with the x-acto knife I bought. It only seems to cut like butter through the parts I don't want to cut, yet when I get to a sprue? it's like trying to cut a diamond. Ended up scratching the hull of my Dreadnought just trying to take off a small piece and was instantly filled with sorrow and anxiety. I know the idea is "any fuck up is battle damage" but dammit it hurts.
>>47786469
I'm in it for the gaming and the modeling is kind of an added benefit. As such when I first got my models I slapped them together in a hurry because I was excited to play instead of cutting a piece out, trimming and cleaning, glue, cut next piece, trim, etc. Keep in mind this thread is traditional GAMES and not arts and crafts.
