How would you design a Magic: the Gathering set themed around Alice in Wonderland?

Had a buddy attempt it once, it was tragic. He got crushed.
>>
>>47521783
How would you fix it?

Like American McGee's.

Just play Innistrad actually.

Whimsy: If this spell is countered by an opposing source, you may immediately put a permanent from your hand to play with a converted mana cost equal or less that this card's. Exile this card.

Countering spells probably shouldn't happen enough for it to show up on the set's main mechanic.

I'd use Transform as the primary mechanic (with different triggers than Innistrad's day/night cycle werewolves). Make the front side of each card fairly mundane, and have the transformed version be much more fantastical.

If you really wanted to play up the mirror world aspect of it, give transformed creatures Shadow too.

Maybe even just do something really simple, like "If you cast this spell for [cost], it comes into play transformed."
So it's just a straight-up split card for creatures.

Could even put regular split cards in there too just to drive home that whole mirror world idea.

Hmmm... I kind of like the idea of a set that takes place on two mirrored planes simultaneously.

Shadow is an interesting idea, but it could use a twist to help differentiate it from flying. Maybe...

Spectral (This creature can't block creatures without spectral, or be blocked except by creatures with spectral.)
>>
Or maybe tie the Madness mechanic into it? But indirectly.

Unreason (This creature comes into play a +1/+1 counter for every card you've discarded this turn.)

Surreal (This creature can't block or be blocked unless the defending player discarded a card this turn.)

Split creatures seem simple enough. I like that.

Shadow already does have that twist, though. A creature with shadow can't block regular creatures and vice versa.

Oh, huh! False memory on my part. I thought Shadow was functionally identical to Flying for some reason. I must have been thinking of Horsemanship.

Okay, so far:

Transforming 'split' creatures
Split spells
Enemy color factions
Possibly Shadow

Potential tribes:
Rabbits/Moonfolk
Cats
Rats
Illusions
Knights
Griffins

And there's got to be a Jabberwocky.

I tried it many years ago. It was a set centered around color identity. Some cards had an ability called 'kaleidoscopic' that allowed players to cast them using a different color. For example, a black spell with cost 1B it could be turned red by paying 2R instead of its normal cost.

There was five groups, one for each 'suit' of cards with two different colors. Hearts were blue-red, spades red-white, clubs black-green, diamonds green-blue and jokers white-black.

>Silly Sliver
Every Sliver in your hand has Madness: cast this card for half its converted mana costs.

Maybe another UN set?

Equipment Vorpal Sword

I mean, I posted this before in the thread you took it from, but you should use abilities creatively - Wonderland shouldn't have more Hasted 1/1s for [color] than it absolutely needs.

Another thing that might work is cards that vary based on some conditions - this can be done by having transforming cards, but it could also be more conditional: "If Card Soldier is blocked by a non-Red card, it gains deathtouch" or "While it is not your turn, Cheshire Cat has Shadow."

Non-nude Loli card covers, except for 3 non-sexualized nude covers.
