Their is one already, it's the Church of Iomedae.
>>
>>47480389
I don't mind that so long as the idea isn't a carbon copy of the setting.
For example GM had an idea based on DS3 where the players all play epic level hero's returned from the dead by some unknown force. There will be an over arching plot, but the main theme is the players figuring out what the hell happened to there legacies while they were dead. A part from the similarities between the lords of cinder and the PC's there won't be much in common with DS3
>>
>>47480605
I don't really know where the fuck this comes from but I hate it.

In my setting the oldest race are the nature spirits (fae), and when the humans show up, ONE of them (a demigod) tries to overcome the natural forces of the world, and in response the fae shape some of their kind into human shapes in order to create a warrior caste to combat the first humans, and this caste was the elves.

The elves are the versatile young race, and they have trouble forming communities because now that their initial purpose is moot, they really don't have much else in the way of greater meaning.

>>
>>47480639
No, I often find that just cribbing most of it for your own setting while not doing a carbon copy is just as bad, if not worse. There is a fine line between taking inspiration and pretty much just using the exact themes and core conceits while just renaming things and throwing in your own fanfiction, but when it IS the latter, it's obvious, lazy, and often feels disingenuous in the same way you might find a chinese knockoff action figure of NEWEST MARVEL MOVIE HERO.

The video game tome4 takes this to a hilarious extreme. In the backstory, there were like three mass exterminations of the orcs. In the default campaign, you destroy their civilization AGAIN, and this time for no real reason. Two non-orc wizards manipulated the orc clans through wizard trickery to help them put together their world-destroyin' device. The notes you find indicate that the orcs were starting to wise up to them, but you just kill them and take all their stuff anyway.

The halflings in that setting are also literally nazis.

When I DM I never bring up that I'm getting this or that idea from JoJo (then again, I don't crib from anything all that much) and my players never seem to complain, even when they catch me.

I could see a game that was literally trying to be JoJo as pretty traumatic, though, definitely.

Factually false, it's people reacting negatively towards the fanbase assuming it's terrible because of the circlejerks. Fanbase reflecting badly on the thing they like.

That's the way of 4chan, something becomes too popular and it immediatelly becomes shit, happens all the time in /v/, less frequently on other boards

Now, this might come as a shock, but did you know every single base has a number if circlejerking assholes in it? Is everything shit then, anon?

>>47481398

>>
>>47481548
The art is atrocious, especially for an action manga. You can barely make out what's happening in any scene, and the faces are hideous. The exaggerated proportions and poses are done with less of a sense of style, and more of just general ineptitude as an artist that the guy tries to drown out with excessive detailing.

The character designs are likewise terrible, ranging from BDSM dungeon rejects to BDSM dungeon rejects in ill-fitting street clothes.

>>47481667
The battles are poorly scripted and rely on logic that has no relation to anything you can find in a rational universe, the plot is a mess that's clearly the result of a stressed mangaka making shit up as he goes along, the characters are universally unlikable and are basically an assembled cast of unfunny jokes, and the drama is so hamfisted and the humor so bland that you spend more time laughing at all the momenta except the times the author wants you to laught.

There are some Jojo fans that aren't shitposters. Like the people who post in the SSS and try to keep the topic on actually working on incorporating the setting into games.

But then there's the faggots like yourself who have some bizarre need to exaggerate how popular it is, likely because you realize that it is shit and that you need to try and establish it as something other than mediocre so you can spam about the show on a traditional games board without people telling you to fuck off and die.

Damn... I didn't even know some of these were tropes and some of these are hitting too close to home on my next project:

>The goblins are only doing X because they have to in order to survive
Forced lumber gathering efforts encroaching on goblin territory and leading to clashes.

>The city's government is a front, and is really controlled by dueling crime families
Not really a front, but the criminal underworld do have some sway.

>The princess secretly knows how to fight
Female (or Male) lead (so prince or princess) has the option of being a competent fighter depending on the readers choices.

>Bait and switch evil mcguffin to generic lolcthulloo eldritch horrors
No bait and switch, but one of the paths involves Cthulhu-esque themes of insanity.

Technically baba yaga is a lich too.
Its portrait as a hag or a witch in the modern times, but original myth implies she is dead and live in her coffin.

The first one is only shitty if the DM (or writer, in this case, I guess) tries to use it as leverage to make the players feel shitty.
>This group which has acted like nothing but murderous bastards for the duration of the story are totally sympathetic guys. Don't you feel shitty for killing them indiscriminately?!

The second one is anon being salty. If there are powerful crime operations happening then they're going to have sway over government personnel at some level. Bribing cops, getting their bros into positions of power, stuff like that are all part of what makes building a large crime syndicate possible. If they didn't have sway over local government then they'd just get stomped out like all the other street trash.

Third is only annoying if used as a 'gotcha!' like case one.

Fourth is fine as long as you can handle writing it. Most of the issue is people aren't any good at writing it.

>>
>>47482212
I also have advice for slavic settings.

Wait a ten or so sessions into your campaign.

Have your players raid/attack some massive stronghold or fortress.

In the deepest, strongest treasure room, have a sack.

A non-descript, empty burlap sack with a slight aura of magic.

Watch the eyes of that one player, you know the one, the guy who goes out of his way to read lore in his spare time, watch his eyes light up.

He takes the bag as his share of the loot, and does nothing with it for the entire game.

Until, approaching the BBEG, who I will just assume is Lich Ivan the Terrible, your player runs into front of the party, and shouts the magic words.

CLICKY CLACK, GET INTO MY SACK!
>>
>>47482128
You can just walk right to the other side of those encounters and escape.

Though this may be slightly difficult for characters who don't take the prodigy that gives infinite instantaneous movement.
>>
>>47481157

To be fair, it does pretty repeatedly point out that the orcs are responsible for their fair share of vile fuckery and mass murder, and when you go to destroy their civilization (yes, *again*), they are close to succeeding in their goal of annihilating a rival human/elvish civilization.

Halflings absolutely are vile little shits, though.

There's a reason for that. Context is everything - Islam and Judaism both have histories of serious real-world prejudice against them in Western countries. Catholicism is doing fine, enough that most people don't even remember it used to be hated Statesdie, and so is acceptable to make a villain out of because everyone will understand that you either don't really mean it, or are merely criticizing its legitimate problems. On the other hand, Satanism or whatever isn't seen as a legitimate religion in the first place, so it's just fine as a target for the same reason as Hitler is.

Basically, people like keeping politics out of their games unless it's the point of the game. So things that are relevant political issues will be kept out so that nobody gets their panties in a twist.

At a certain point you change something so much and you need to start questioning why you are even bothering to change it. You see this sort of confused thinking on /tg/ a lot in an effort to be "original".

For example, take the archetype of a Dwarf.
It could be a lot of things, but chances are you are thinking of a short, squat humanoid that lives underground and is good at things like mining and crafts and likes gold and jewels.

If you start changing these fundamental things about the archetype Dwarf, at a certain point you have basically reduced your dwarf into something essentially undwarflike. At that point, why even call it a dwarf? Why feel the need to cling to the need for the archetype?

Because, something about the archetype Dwarf resonates with people. Something that you've absorbed through culture and media has created a need for that archetype when it comes to fantasy. You can try to change it, try to come up with something completely different, try and shoehorn your own weirdo ideas into it, but it all ends up falling a little flat and smacking of trying too hard.

Most of this thread really just reads like people who take TVTropes too seriously and forget that tropes aren't really bad.

>>The setting has a single Human Kingdom in the plains, Elven Kingdom in a gigantic forest, Dwarven Kingdom in the only existing mountain range and Orc Kingdom/Horde coming from the west/south
Shit, that reminds me, I need somewhere for orcs to come from, thanks for the reminder

They come from the sky. Fully formed orcs sometimes just fall head down onto an unmanned land. They can multiply by normal means, too.

I don't really have a problem with it, but I also don't browse 4chan or other communities all day anymore. So I don't really feel the overexposure.

>something special about humanity
The alternative is jack of all trades, which is even worse.

The worst kind of cancer.
