My vallejo primer is weak as fuck and scratches easy, I'm finding it hard to get good coverage with citadel primers outside, too.

CAN I JUST FUCKING PAINT?
>>
>>47405611
I got good experience with The Army Painter Primer. Also doin it outside is waste of paint that gets caught by the wind.

Had the same problem. Threw it out and switched to ak interactive airbrush primer. They make a very nice surface to paint and are a bit more durslable. Still a polymer primer though so it is best to let it dry for 24 hours.

As a first mini it's pretty good, especially on the face. I'd suggest cleaning up the highlights on the trousers a bit and doing something with the white armour; it looks a bit thick and bland, maybe do some sort of pattern on the gun/shoulder so you don't just have these big blank patches on the mini.

It's a good start, anon. Can't see any moldlines, the face is nice, and the metals look good. My only criticism would be the white... have you considered starting with a darker off-white colour and then only reaching purest white-of-whites with the final highlight? I'm not saying you have to go overboard, like GW did with the Blood Angels Sanguinary Priest (pic related), but it looks more realistic to scale.

Continuing from the last thread, adding some details to Skull Mountain.

Cut plastic barrels in half and them placed them into the "cave" area. I used pliers to hold the barrels while cutting so as to keep my fingers.
I added a lamp attached to the rock above these barrels, and another outside the cave entrance.
A street light was added in the corner with the door.
And finally I have added an emergency subterranean hatch at the basin of the cave under the skull eye sniper nest. This was pilfered from an old MK1 plastic rhino sprue.

Going to add a couple choice fortification walls on the upper level to provide some more cover and then on to sand.

Needs some TLC, but I'm pretty happy with them considering I've been delirious all week. Technically converted, but it's just a case of using the deathwing command squad heads (and chainfist) for higher detail and a slightly more pleasant shape.

Got to pick up some wildflowers and gobbo green to properly finish the bases off.

I'll definitely hit up the trousers again when I break out the brushes again. Thanks, man. I agree about the shoulders. I don't have any fluff thought up for my dudes yet, but I'll consider throwing a unit insignia or something onto the shoulder.

its more the arm that doesn't feel right.
And these Kharn groupies always look like this. Notice how on the Kharn model his shoulders, arms and hands are oversized (even by heroic standards)?
This is why.
Although the left guy doesn't look so bad. So you are partly correct, the helmet compounds the issue.

Close up of what I mean.

Vallejo's guide did say to use 10-15 psi, and I noticed I was at 20.

Was I spraying too close? Too much? Are 5 Psi really so massive a difference?
>>
>>47409291
Probably the latter. Though if they're clear coated, they still shouldn't be rubbing too badly.

5 PSI is the different between flat, perfect and bulging tires.
And we're talking 25, 30 and 35psi on a standard car.
>>
>>47409835
Even just picking them up by the helmet for a brief second (crackle paint base was drying) had the blue starting to fade away to reveal grey plastic underneath.

I have a feeling he forgot to prime them and just wanted to get the blue on before he left for his trip. Guess it's time to strip them.

Started weathering my Australian fleet for DW- I'm hoping to have these guys done by the Nova Open, but I've been working on them for years. I want them to look really well used, so I'm going pretty heavy on the rust. The lower left ship is a junker I've been using to test painting ideas, and I've circled the rust in light blue- does it look overdone? It's washed out a little in the photo. Circled in purple is my attempt at heat discoloration on the smokestack- comments? The areas circled in red I can't decide if they need more metallics.
>>
>>47409944
Painter's tape is OK, but Tamiya's is the best I've used - well worth the premium. Amazon if you can't get it locally.
>>
>>47409944
You can use poster putty / blu tack for coverage on uneven surfaces, or try the paint-on masks.

>Are 5 Psi really so massive a difference?

Earth's standard atmosphere is around 14.7 psi. Pic related is what 14.7 psi can do.
>>
>>47409802
Could be a few things:
1. Pressure (as mentioned). 20 psi isn't nesssesarily bad, but the rule of thumb is lower pressure and multiple passes.
2. Paint viscosity. I have a hunch this might be part of the problem; if your paint/pressure ratio's wrong, the atomized paint starts to dry mid air. Bad.
3. Distance. Off the cuff, you want to be 6-8" away from target; too close and you can spider, too far and you can orange peel. It totally depends on how light your touch is, though.

Speaking of which; what's your brush/compressor set up?
>>

I'm using a CRPlus Evolution with the 0.4 nozzle, and a Sparmax TC-610h.

>>
>>47409394
Look, there's no point you asking for critique because you can't actually take it, nothing is a big deal or your fault.
Unless you can be receptive, don't post your shit.

Post a model where you've actually cleaned the mold lines and where you can't see brushstrokes and pooling in the wash.
Consistently paint the eyes on your marines, you just left some undone.
Do any basing. Just sloppily painting the base brown looks shit, I fucking mourn for that Imperial Space Marine.

>uh it's weathering

No it's a shitty washjob, look up a decent weathering tutorial if you want them to be muddy.

If you can't get the desired look with dwarf flesh, try another paint.
Zandri Dust -> Ushabti Bone -> Screaming Skull instead, for your creamy whites.?
You'll still want to wash it brown, but again, wash it, don't drown it.

Helppppp! I'm trying to make this guy look like an invader from dark souls, but it's going to shit, any advice?

I painted him black, did the red bits by thinning my red paint further and further to try and blend it, but it came out like dogshit. I tired riekland fleshshade to shade it since I know it's redish, and that didnt help anything, so I tried highlighting with more red, and it still looks like a turd. Then to save that I tried nuln oil, and here we are. How can I get this to work? Essentially the red areas are supposed to be from a downward light as far as I can tell from reviewing source materials on invaders, but I cant get a solid clean blended red for whatever reason (probably me).

Forgive the pictures, turns out dark red on black is hard to take a picture of.
>>
>>47410524
I think you've got the right idea, you just need to tune the execution a bit. Maybe a black undercoat and then a maroon base coat, then blend up to red-orange as a highlight.
>>
>>47410524
Doing a black fade on top of red is going to be a lot easier than doing red on top of black.

Brush strokes in the direction of fade, rather than across it, can reduce the obvious lines at the boundaries if you let the strokes go into one another.

If it helps the red you have on the legs actually looks pretty cool.

>You should have primed black.

>Then any areas that were going to be red have done a thin layer of dark brown over black

>then build up from brown to red in those areas

Your paint looks really thick, get it to a consistency of milk and apply a layer. It's going to look blotchy and ugly. LET IT DRY 100%

Apply a second milk thin layer, it'll still look blotchy. LET IT DRY 100%

repeat until red.

- this red on my Ork here (which I like to think is nice and flat) was achieved in the same way (but I wanted a full red instead of red to black highlight)

Closer, more light, greater focus on the camera

Your gold lacks neatness and elegance, and your arms look a little odd, kind of exposed.

Highlight the armour and gold, it looks kinda flat

Can't see the backpack, but it looks as though you have missed out metallic details

Looks neater, the eyes are nice, although you have smudged. Needs highlighting all over

Looks like you need a smaller brush or better brush control. Prop your wrist against the table if you have trouble with shaking. Also, don't be afraid to go back and clean up areas that you've spilled paint onto places you don't want, like the shoulder pads and around the eyes.

Much better than my first time stuff, though you've made some of the same mistakes I did at first too. First of all focus on getting good clean layers on each part. For instance don't let any black or silver to show up on the blues, unless it's nuln oil in the crevasses. Keep the colors seperated and the layers solid. These guy's guides really helped me when I was new you should check them out. Here's the one for ultramarines.

Thank you! I am have a *lot* of fun making this piece!

Here are some current progress shots.

I've added some fortification wall segments along the top where cover was more sparse.

I also added mount points on either side of these walls for 2 Havoc Launchers.

I added a storm bolter at the back door entrance,

Cut out 3 control pad/panels from a wall piece. 2 were cut right down and added to the pillars that supported the Havoc Launchers. The idea here is that the HLs are controlled by these pads! The larger panel was attached to a rock with pipes added going into the ground. The idea here is that is can remotely unlock the bottom door, as well as control the storm bolter there.

I added some smoke launchers into the rock face.

I made a portable escape hatch exit point complete with above ground sensors and smoke launchers to obscure ones exit.

Picture to keep this WIP-relevant and help answer >>47414281's questions.

Been paying attention to the subterfuge and "who's the *real* enemy" talk in the anime?

The royal family, to which Christa Lenz (her real name is Historia Reiss - she's the *real* king's illegitimate daughter) belongs, has been pulling the strings since before the three walls were built. Someone of royal blood can, with the correct titan-shifting ability, alter human memory en masse. They do this to control Humanity at large and stay in power. And who would want to go outside the walls? Hell, there are titans out there!

Eren's father figured this out and stole the power, then changed Eren into a titan-shifter. Eren then ate his father (which is why he is missing for the entire series), inheriting this ability. Eren is not of royal blood, so his use of his abilities are limited, but it is important that he, and not the royal family, have them.

If you've watched the entire anime, you know that Annie is the female titan. Ever notice that even in background shots, she is often seen in the company of Reiner and Bertoldt? That's because they are also titan-shifters (the Armoured and Colossal titans, respectively). If you read ahead in the manga, they confess to Eren almost immediately after the end of the TV show's run. They also kidnap him.

I've read all the way through episode 72 of the manga, and have yet to find out what's in Eren's basement, but Historia becomes the rightful queen after the military stages a coup.

Yes. You can read ahead in the manga, though - there's at least another season's worth in there - plus there are two live-action movies where the details are quite a bit ... *different*.

The same ladz wut wuz involved in Attack on Titan are currently releasing Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (pic related) both in Japan and the US simultaneously. It's a cross between AoT and the Walking Dead, but with trains! Not sure if Kabaneri will delay or derail (Hah! Train pun!) a possible second season of Attack on Titan.

That's more a problem of all GW's painting guides. They are never properly white balanced, which is why the colors and lightness can look randomly different in something that is supposed to be a step by step tutorial.
If you squint you can see the line highlight on the right side of the pic you just posted. You can't see it on the left.

Now this is more likely due to shitty photo editing than not painting what's in the tutorial.

I got the "Battle of Maccrage" starter kit from my local library for $5, all the pieces are there, but half the space marines are put together (not glued) and have a terrible paint job on them, I want to find a way to undo their paint job so I can paint them to join my army.

get some super clean from walmart if you are in the US. Also why did your local library have warhammers?
>>
>>47420314
99% isopropyl rubbing alcohol, that stuff strips so well that a cotton swab with some on it will remove paint if you rub it. soaking also has no effect on plastic or forge world resin, I tried for 2 straight days and nothing happened to the plastic, but the paint seems to dissolve

Someone donated them to the library, so they sold them in their little shop they have at the front of the library.
Also got a impereal guard chimera, box was opened, but was untouched, for $2

That's funny... you'd think of all people that a Blood Angels player would know the answer to this, but then again, I actually *start* with Evil Sunz scarlet and go up from there. I prefer the bright 2nd Edition Blood Angels red to the grimmer darkness of the more recent stuff.

anyone know off the top of their head where I can find one (or eight) of these Robogear T-Rexes? Ebay and Amazon have failed and I can't seem to find them anywhere else.

Block of wood is usually good. Large enough it will sit itself happily on the desk and not fall over.

I bought a lot of spess muhreens off of ebay and just got them today. They're used, but I found they're all assembled via hot glue gun. Some of it is easy to clean off but most of it won't come off. I read isopropyl alcohol will help remove the glue. Should I dunk the marines in the alcohol and then clean them off?

Dusk Raiders are pre-Mortarion Death Guard, why are they here?

I'm converting the Morghast Archai/Harbingers into a couple of Nurgle daemon princes. While I will be sculpting flesh and icky stuff to cover some of the bones/skulls so they not so blatantly undead things, I'm not confident in my ability to sculpt a head from scratch. So I'm looking for any good heads, from any range, that might be a good fit.

Suggestions? Or even just favorite third party bits shops?

nice scheme, what color did you prime it?
>>

as long as it's a mini, it belongs in the thread, but I've never seen an x-wing look like that.

I cannot come up with a color scheme for my Mawkrusha. Not feeling green, red or white per the pictures. As a fan of monster hunter I was thinking about making it look like a Tigrex. But I don't want to come up with a boring brown dragon or screw up some sort of pattern on the scales. Any ideas?

Sam Fisher/10. In a good way. Well done.

it feels either alpha legion colours or blue and violet, but i understand one is a pretty boring combination and the other is a bit extreme

Start off with a broken white like zhandri dust, then bone, then white highlights

If you're in the Upper Midwest, yeah, it's way too humid.

if humidity is an issue, wait until around dusk.

Heres my hawkshroud knight so far. How am I doing? Im also looking to try a stripe pattern on the chainsword, what's the best way to go about it?
>>

Less Imperial and more Ork id say
>>
>>47425943
Looks good, although the yellow looks pretty thick in places. For the stripes, masking tape is crucial.

Hi anons. What's the thing that sticks to the miniature's feet and the thing under it called?
>>
>>47426064
I don't know what brands you have in your country but usually it's a type of crafting/poster tac and the thing it's stuck to might be a soda lid or an empty paint pot.

I did my best, but the yellow IS really thick in places. It looked beautiful with base paint colors but I had a hell of a time getting smooth even color with my layers. Yeah I wasn't sure what tape. Masking, then thanks.
